Round 9 Super Series
✸This is a team challenge that requires 1 book a week. The object of the game is to roll the dice and move along the board. To win a team must roll past 100. Teams will roll on Fridays.
✸ R9 SS Sign ups are open now through 5/26. Then teams will be formed and the game will officially start 6/2.
✸Teams will roll by clicking the dice on Fridays once their team has completed their reads. Please note you will be using two dice for each roll.
**VERY IMPORTANT**
A team can NOT advance if all reviews are not in by the deadline. That being said, players need to have their reviews in latest by Friday. Technically, a review isn't late until after Thursday 11:59p. But your team captain cannot roll until ALL of the team reviews have been posted.
❖If a player fails to have their book done two times throughout the game (excluding a prearranged absence) they will no longer be a part of the team.
HOW TO PICK A BOOK:
✸ Books are based on the spot you're on not the roll of the die.
If you land on single digit spot for example let’s say you land on spot 5 then you have to read a book that's #5 in a series. For double digit numbers, for example you land on spot 48 you can read either a #4 or a #8 in a series.
✸Standalone books can be used for a 1 or a 0
✸First in a series can be used for a 1
✸I don't expect anyone to read a series out of order and for people that don't read series books that still want to play there will be an alternate option. There will be an alternate option for each spot.
✸Half books: ½ or .5 count only if they meet the page requirement AND will be judged by preceding whole number numeral on goodreads.
Example: Spot 8: A MacKenzie Clan Gathering (MacKenzies & McBrides, #8.5) would count for spot 8 because it meets the page limit.
✸ Books in multiple series can be used for ANY of the series. An example: Azagoth (1001 Dark Nights, #6; Lords of Deliverance, #5.5; Demonica, #10.5) can be used for spot 6 for 1001 Dark Nights, spot 5 for LoD or spot 10 for Demonica because it meets the page limit.
✸There will be a separate thread for captains to post their place on the board after rolling and a separate thread for captains to post a link to the teams completed reviews.
NEW FEATURE:
Bonus Points ~
✸Teams will have a chance to earn 1 Free Pass to roll. To earn your free pass your team has to complete their reads a day before the next roll. Once your team has done this you will have 1 free pass. The free pass will allow a team to roll if they are missing a review(s) before the cutoff. Once you've used it, you can't earn another one. It's a one-time shot. NOTE: The free pass may not be used for the win.
✸ One point can be earned for reading three or more books in a series
✸ One point can be earned One point can be earned for reading a book that > 500 pages
✸ One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series (there must be more than 4 books in that series...I will entertain series with spin-offs) ~ no re-reads on this one.
✸ One point can be earned for never picking a book from the alternate lists (earned week before winning roll)
****Each of those can only be earned ONCE. So That is a FREE PASS and a total of 4 bonus points****
✸Must wait until roll to start a book.
✸Re-reads are allowed (Added on 8/18 for next round ~EXCEPT on Winning Spots, no re-reads to win)
✸Page limit is 140
✸When using an anthology you may use any of the numbers in the book except for the .5 since this means ½. But you must review each story in the anthology.
✸Series # will be based on how GR has it listed.
✸Deadline cutoffs are based on US Central time zone
✸✸✸ Any questions please feel free to ask!

★YES, you can use the same book in both challenges.
For example: Ezi is on SS Team 1 and SSS Team 3
Week 1: SS Team 1 rolled 12 (so they can read a book 1 or 2 in a series and
SSS Team 3 rolled 2 for their first roll
Ezi is allowed to read and claim Insurgent (Divergent #2) for her SS and her SSS team if she wants.
Of course, you could always challenge yourself to read different books as I did last round :D

EXAMPLE OF AN ACCEPTABLE POST
Week 2:
Spot: 12 (or Alternative~ Title "C")
Book: Crave The Night by Lara Adrian
Qualification: Midnight Breeds Book 12 OR Title "C"
Finished: 9/10
Rating & Review: ★★★½.
I am not sure if my expectations were too high, but I didn't enjoy this book like I thought I would. This one was just kind of flat.
First of all, I didn't "feel" the chemistry between Jordana and Nathan. It felt more like insta-lust, the kind you feel when a good girl meets that bad boy you know your dad would want you to stay away from. That feeling of wanting to be the one who tames that tiger. I liked Nathan and Jordana individually though. I kept waiting for the moment Elliott Bentley Squire (Jordana's boyfriend) would be revealed to be a fiend waiting to use her for evil...I am still waiting.
Also, I am baffled at where this series is going. Not knowing the true enemy and the enemies motivations didn't really get me excited. It's like now everyone is an Atlantean descendant. Are there any plan old breedmates left anymore? There are just more questions and not enough answers, so this one was just okay for me.
When using the alternate that involves cover items, colors, or publications years, please be sure to link the Correct edition to show how the book qualifies

You would have to read and review every week. I can tell you that teammates would expect you to choose a book and write your review within the week.
If you don't think you can honor that commitment, I wouldn't sign up.
I would suggest an individual challenge for slower readers.
*Thanks Mary

I don't understand the bonus points either. If the goal is the same as the other games, to roll and move along the board, and you win by being the first team to finish the board... What are points for? Is it an extra space? Is it in case two teams finish at the same time? I've read post 3 a few times and I get HOW to receive the points, but I must still be missing where it explains like what they're actually for.

Okay Cait and Sandy. I apologize if its really confusing. Thanks for asking for clarification.
For those who have played before, some teams seem to roll 5 or 6 every week. We have had situations where some teams were in the 60's and some had just cracked 41. Realistically, there was no way for the teams 20-30 spots behind could catch up. The bonus points are a way for teams to get a few more points. It's not that many points, but if you earn it all, it's almost like earning an extra roll.
Does that help?

For posting the weekly reviews, would it be acceptable to post all the details including book name/author and edit in the actual cover and/or link later? I use my mobile device more and more these days, and the app is horrible and using a browser on my phone to try and do linking is painful.

Edit: Also is it that the genre needs to be on the main page or is it the genre should be tagged a certain number of times?

Ummm, I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by embedded genres. Can you give me an example?
I mean I consider BDB, romance, PNR, UF And Fantasy etc. is that what you mean, like a book fitting multiple genres?

Don't worry, I'll send a mass message like I did for sign up to remind everyone. And hopefully, captains will gently send pms to those who don't check in

Like a genre that's listed within another genre. You can have just "Fantasy" but then there's also like "Fantasy > Werewolf" or "Fantasy > Paranormal" etc. So I'm wondering if the genre we need to use shows up as the secondary genre (like "Science Fiction > Steampunk" when we need Steampunk) would count or if it needs to just stand on its own (just "Steampunk" with nothing else listed before or after it).

As long as it's tagged steampunk even as a secondary tag, that's fine.
I think most of what we read are like sub genres anyway, right?

If prequel meets the page requirement, then it's definitely okay.
Example:
is a prequel (The Wallfowers 0.5) and it is 391 pages.
is book 8.5 and it's 160 pages so it would work
Short stories won't meet the page requirements

No, I meant specifically do we have to read 0.5, etc. books to earn the bonus point for reading an entire series or will just reading all the "regular" books in the series suffice?

Ooooh! Okay! No. No, you wouldn't be required to read the side stories. You are only required to read the full number books

Great, thank you! :) I was going through my shelves earlier trying to find a series to use for this and figured I'd better make sure. :D

Hi Ezi
I've been going over the extra points in my head (scary!) - so do they move you ahead extra spaces? I'm still not understanding because the game doesn't seem to be based on points, but rather what you roll and the spaces you land on. So I'm still not clear on where they fit. Thanks and sorry for not getting it! :D

Thanks so much - that makes sense. If we have points available are we able to tell you when we want to use them? For example, if we'd rather keep spot 30 instead of 31 for that roll?

I have been on hold for The Turn and it looks like I will get it while this challenge is going on. It is a Prequal written after the rest of the series was completed.

It is over 400 pages, so qualifies in that way.
Could it be read with the "0" if we landed on 20, 30, 40, etc...????
sorry just want to check the series has to have 4 or more books right and have to have at least 140 pages to count

You can save it:)
But when you are posting your spot, make sure to state "Team Ezi loves Spartacus earn 1 bonus point for over 500 pages"
Then also state when you USE that bonus point

Correct! It counts for 0 in 10, 20 etc just like you stated. You got it

No. You can read a series that only has 1 or 2 books as long as it meets the page requirement of 140 pages.
BUT if you want the bonus points for Starting and Finishing a series, that particular point is only available to series with 4 or more published books not counting novellas
