T.J. Burns | 2698 comments I made a spreadsheet for planning purposes:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Please let me know if you can access the spreadsheet and edit it. I believe that no sign in is required.

message 5: by Ananya (new)

Ananya | 252 comments Yes! I am able to access it :)

message 6: by Ananya (new)

Ananya | 252 comments Oh, wait. I'm able to access it but I'm not able to edit it D:

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments Welcome, Ananya!

Give the spreadsheet a try now -- you should be able to edit it now (I hope!). :)

message 8: by Bianca (new)

Bianca Sy (sy_bianca) Hi!! ^_^

@TJ, are we going to just choose anything from the spreadsheet?
And by the way, I can access and edit it. I'm always using a computer. :D

message 9: by Ananya (new)

Ananya | 252 comments Yup! I can edit it now :D I just wanted to clarify - we are allowed to read any book that falls under the categories right? And is it okay if I reread a book that I've read before but have not written a review for? Thank you!

message 10: by Ananya (new)

Ananya | 252 comments ^^ Also since I joined Goodreads only last year October, all the books Ive previously read are only dated from after that becuase I did not put a specific date for every book I read - So even if I read the book more than a year ago, it shows up on Goodreads as last october :(

Welcome Bianca!

Since we are a fun group, I think we should just pick out what we want to read and where it might fit. (Sometimes a book fits in several categories and I like to keep track in case we need to move it). We get 10 points for closing out a category, but we can always move things around later.

I also made a column for alternates if your book only fits in a category that has already been claimed by four team members. But since at the moment our group is so small (only 6 members) -- that will probably not be a problem... ;)

Hi Ananya!
You can reread a book if you read it over a year ago, but you have to write a new review. You can edit the date you read the book the first time by going to the review and clicking "edit." Then you can change the year you read the book. Goodreads has been recently updated so you can add dates of books you reread and you can note how many times you've read a book and when.

message 13: by T.J. (last edited Apr 25, 2017 08:07AM) (new)

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments By the way, it doesn't matter which column you put your book in, 1st Completion, 2nd Completion, etc. The first person to finish the book will be moved into 1st Completion, and so forth. This is just for planning purposes. (I'm not sure I'll be reading all the books I put in there -- I just want to get an overview of what books I might read. I'm still setting up buddy reads, though, so it might change).

So don't hesitate to put your book in, even if the category is taken, or even if you are not sure you will read it, because there is so much room to maneuver in this game. You are not committing to a book by putting it in there, you're just planning and goal setting. You can change at any time. We are a fun group after all. :). I think I'll add a color code for "might read".

I'm hoping we'll get more team members, otherwise this spreadsheet could be totally unnecessary... :).

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 2605 comments Also in part 1 of this challenge there is a challenge to read a book with the author or character whose name starts with the letter A and I lucked out again with The Alchemist of Loom The Alchemists of Loom (Loom Saga, #1) by Elise Kova the character's name is Ari.

message 19: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 2605 comments I have been reading between 7 to 9 books a month so I put my name on 6 slots based on what I have sitting on my nightstand waiting to be read.

I picked Rose's name for the pick the letter of a teammates name and I put down Red Queen.

Susan wrote: "I LOVE the spreadsheet!!!! Genius idea."

I think so too, but it wasn't mine... ;).

I used a spreadsheet in a previous challenge -- but the challenge required more organization because you had to close out one category, before going to the next. This challenge is easier to maneuver. (In this case, I copy/pasted the spreadsheet from a serious team -- Thanks, Sharon from Team Cougar!)

Yay! I loved that book!

You could put it under:
42. Book that begins with the letter I

or with 624 pages, you could add a short book and do:
20. Roll a five or an eight – read 800 pages of your choice (can be made up from more than 1 book.)

...Help us Obianca Kenobi, you're our only hope!

Susan, why don't you go ahead and set up a buddy read with the other reader and I'll join in if I can? I'm still not sure about my time this month and I overcommitted to buddy reads last month. But I'll do my best to chime in with my two cents worth... ;)

I was wondering why you put A List of Cages under "Winged things… read a book with the letters ‘B’, ‘A’, and ‘T’ in the title"...
"Una gabbia di stelle" -- Ha! brilliant!

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments Rose wrote: "Just wanted to ask, what's the spreadsheet colour code for?"

* 10 Bonus points will be given each time one of the four parts of the challenge is completed. (Bonus points for completion of parts will be awarded to teams only, not individual players)

The color code is for strategic purposes. We can see which books are finished and which are being currently read. Ideally we'll finish out as many parts as we can as many times as we can. This color coding will be more interesting at the end of the month as we move books around to finish parts and get as many extra points as we can. It will also help when planning what to read next (and in which category to post your finished reviews). If someone is already reading a book in that category, or has finished, you can place your book in a different category, if it fits.

I also added a color for "might read" so that you all know that the category might be open. If you finish a book that needs to go in a category that someone marked as "might read," you get priority and can take that spot. I might choose the books I read during the month depending on what spots still need to be filled.

T.J. Burns | 2698 comments I devoured The Adventurers Guild by Zack Loran Clark ! It was fantastic! I'll write a review soon. I haven't read a book this good in a long time. I don't really think it's middle grade, though. The characters are supposed to be 13, but I imagined them throughout to be more like 16 or 17. Too bad it's not coming out until October... Can't wait for the sequel.
