So guys, are you ready for tomorrow's read-a-thon? Have you already picked a list of books to read next week?
I'm ready! I'm in the middle of a couple of books now, and I have a few short reads lined up (and a Harry Potter reread- not short but still quick). Plus I'm going to start a new book with my class this week! Can't wait!
Yes I already know what I'm going to read :) I finally got my copy of A Court of Wings and Ruin, so I'm going to read this (it has 699 pages, that'll take me awhile I think) and I'll try to finish 3 other books which I already started.
I started Raven Boys recently so I will probably work on that. I am still in a bit of a reading slump so I think I will be happy if I can even get through that one book this week.
Aline, I thought that book would last me awhile too. It only took two days of binge reading it 2as so addictive.

I'm hoping to finishIt. I've hit the 1000 page mark. I have to other big books (A Little Life and The Fifth Season). Hopefully I can make progress on them as well.
Not sure what I'm going to be reading but I will probably try to clean up my currently reading list for this read a thon, so :
There are some books that I've started and I hope to finish them this week: Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, The Handmaid's Tale, and Cranford. If I have time, I'll also start Emma.
I'm going to try to get up to date with all my reading challenges this week. I'm technically up to date with AtY (20/52 books) but I had aimed to read in order and I'm a couple of weeks behind so I'll aim to catch up. I'm doing the Popsugar challenge too but I'm slightly ahead on that so I'll put that aside for this week. So my plan is:
Finish reading:
The 39 Steps by John Buchan (reading for AtY prompt to read a mystery)
Continue with:
A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James (reading for AtY prompt to read a really long book)
I'm currently about 40% through and I'm enjoying it a lot so I don't want to race through it. I'm not aiming to finish next week but would like to get up to about 70% finished.
Start and finish as many of these as possible:
* The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (reading for AtY prompt to read a New York Times bestseller)
* Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez (reading for Book Riot prompt to read a book set in, or by an author from Central or Latin America)
* Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (reading for Book Riot prompt to read a classic by an author of colour)
* The Emigrants by W.G. Sebald (reading for AtY prompt to read a book that you've owned a while but not got round to reading)
I doubt I'll finish all of those, but I'll hopefully get through at least two or three. Looking forward to reading along with everyone. :-)
I will be trying to finish a few books as well. I should be able to finish listening to Mrs. Dalloway tomorrow while doing yard work. I also want to finish reading I'm Kona Love You Forever tomorrow. It is a short read so doable.
This week I need to finish
Chasing Aphrodite: The Hunt for Looted Antiquities at the World's Richest Museum- it has been renewed at the library too many times
The Keeper of Lost Things- a seven day book so due next Saturday. The hold list is just to long for me to want to wait again.
Blackfly Season- another one of those books I have renewed to many times.
I would like to finish listening to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time with my daughter before the week is out too.
I will be choosing a new audio book from the Gilmore Girls Challenge but do not expect to finish it by the end of the week.
Let the games begin. :)
I'm so excited! I've never done a readathon before. I'm in the middle of 3 books, What I Thought Was True, Big Little Lies, The Woman in Cabin 10, and have two other small ones from the library staring at me, Alice on the Outside and The Grooming of Alice, so those will be my first 5 to tackle.
After that I have a huge one from the library, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so my goal is to clear out those other 5 and start on that one before the end of the week.
Yay!I'm CR 2 books, The Circle and AWOL on the Appalachian Trail, so my first task is to finish those. But after that, I have about 100 I want to get through yesterday **insert eye roll here** so I just want to get through as much as possible this week. The good thing is no business trips this week and my closest friends are all busy all week, so I should be able to read more than my average.
Here we go!
I will try to finallly end with Monsters of Men, and read a graphic novel, a short story and at least one short book too :)
I need to catch up with my reading goal so I plan to read some comics: Chew, Vol. 1: Taster's Choice, I Hate Fairyland Vol. 2 and Saga, Vol. 7. I'm in the middle of The 50/50 Killer right know so plan to finish that. I also want to read The Circle because the movie is about to came out. I would like to read one more book if I have time but I don't know which one yet :))

How does this work?
If you’re new to read-a-thons, don't worry! They're very simple. You make a commitment to read as much as you can for a set period of time and then you do it. There are often games and challenges associated with the event but, for the most part, it's about reading and camaraderie.
For our read-a-thon, we'll be committing to read as much as we can for one week. The week long format gives more members more opportunities to participate! There will be games, progress posts, discussions for participants to join in on, as well as plenty of encouragement along the way. If you're lagging behind on your goal and looking for an excuse to play catch up, this is it!
How much do I have to read?
There isn’t a set amount you are required to read to participate. Many people choose to set personal goals for themselves but the idea is just to read as much as you can for the week and see what you end up with at the end. It’s all in good fun!
When is this happening?
START:
Sunday, May 14th @ 12:00AM (EST)
END:
Saturday, May 20th @ 11:59 PM (EST)
If you don't live in EST, you can find your start time here
Note: If you just want to start at midnight whatever your time is, it isn't a really big deal. Just note that the read-a-thon content is posted using EST.
How do I participate?
All you have to do to join up is to read! But read-a-thons are always much more fun if you participate in the games, join the discussion, and track your progress so we strongly encourage everyone to take part in that. Since this is the first read-a-thon of the year, we will be starting off a little light with only individual challenges. Stay tuned later in the year for read-a-thons with group content.
Where do I participate?
Keep on eye on this folder during the Read-a-Thon for updates, progress reports, and more! They'll start being posted closer to (and after) the event starts. We'll be posting new games every 24 hours throughout the week in the folder but you'll have all week to join in if you missed anything. The discussions and games keep the event active and lively so, again, we strongly encourage participation. Come play along and have some fun!
