It's obviously not the right book, but it sounds similar to some of what happened in The Sudden Appearance of Hope
I don't know what this is, but it sounds great, so I'm following this thread in the hopes of finding out what it is.

The main character works as a government agent because she can summon versions of herself from parallel universes. The way she does it, she generates a "snowstorm" where each flake is a parallel self, then she picks the one best suited for her mission.
In the one I read the person she summons might be named Rachel, and knows a bunch of very obscure languages which she uses to perform the mission. Parts of the mission might have been in Paris?
I think the MC had tagged along on other missions because she couldn't get a certain distance from her parallel self without the parallel vanishing into their own universe, but in the book I read (the first of the series) she finally gets to go on the mission itself and do actual work for it.
I think she also jokes with Rachel about wearing bold underwear to boost self-confidence (ie no one knows it's there but you)
