2017 - Readathon ELEVEN Date: April 8th, 2017- 4PM TO 8PM - Check-In - THIS IS CHECK-IN THREE

Please let us know who is reading during these this period of time.

Let us know the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Also, your location in the world and timezone

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

So for example:

The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott
The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott - Genre: Historical Fiction - pages start 1 - finish 80

If you finished a book - let us know that too and make sure to get it added to your readathon shelf so you can get credit for it. If it is added properly it will show up on your shelf. You have to make sure to have selected a readathon shelf and when you are done with the first book for your readathon - make sure to add the completed date and that the book is read versus currently reading.

It will show up on your shelf if you have done this properly.

Remember wherever you are you can participate in the readathon.

And if you only have one hour or four hours or plan to do this for the entire 24 hour period taking of course breaks for eating and sleeping - you can join for however long you want to read. We want to keep track of the books completed, the books started, the books in progress, the number of pages read by all, and the different genres. Great fun and this is only the eleventh readathon - we will use the same readathon challenge for all of them so you can see your readathon shelves grow.

Additionally these books that you complete on the readathon can be added to other shelves for the Japan or Ireland challenge or the 2017 50 Books Challenge or the goodreads yearly challenge - the sky is the limit. Any genre is welcome.

Remember folks this is the check in for anybody reading during the hours of 4PM until 8PM on April 8th (wherever in the world you are - use your time zone). If you want to get credit for any reading done during these four hours you must check in on this thread - Checkpoint 3. But for the check in to count - you must post between the hours of 4PM and 8PM on April 8th in the time zone that you are in. This is the Checkpoint for those hours on April 8th. To get credit for these hours this is the thread you must post on

REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.

Make sure to answer the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Also, your location in the world and timezone

DETAILED EXAMPLE AND EXPLANATIONS

This is how your template could look when you sign in - you can put in the blank template which you will finish up a half hour before the end of the check in time in your location and then post the blank template in the check in - this is check in THREE and then you would go to check in FOUR and do the same thing again with the blank template and then add the additional pages read etc.

So at the beginning - you would check in.

Hi, this is Bentley - checking in from New York City - Metro New York City area - New York/New Jersey - USA - Eastern Standard Time - giving my name, my city/state location - country would be USA - and my Timezone.

Then I might post the blank template because I am just signing in as follows:

Folks I am going to read Black Flags for starters or Lindbergh by A. Scott Berg

Black Flags The Rise of ISIS by Joby Warrick by Joby Warrick Joby Warrick

Lindbergh by A. Scott Berg by A. Scott Berg (no photo)

Here is where you post the citations of any books that you would be sampling or reading during this check in time period. Notice that each check in is a four hour block of time and where ever you are in the world you should be reading during that time period on that date for that check in and posting during that time period wherever you are locally.

Then the remainder of the blank template would be:

Genre: In the case of the book that I am reading - Non Fiction - Middle East
Start Page: 40
End Page: The last page you have read during this four hour time slot
Total Pages Read: Here you put in the number of pages you read totally in all of the books sampled during this time slot
Total Hours Read: Here you would put in the number of hours or actual time you spent reading during this time slot
Total Books Read: Here you put in the number of books you are sampling during this time slot and reading - you could be reading two or more books at the same time but you could also just be reading one
Total Books Completed: Here you put in the number of books you completed during this time slot
Location: NYC (Metro New York area) - NY/NJ - USA - Eastern Standard Time (EST)

On location - put in your city, state, country wherever you are generally - of course protect your privacy - and add your timezone - in my case I added Eastern Standard Time and the abbreviation EST

And if I completed the book that I was reading in this time slot - I would add the full citation at the bottom

EASY SAMPLE OF TEMPLATE AND HOW YOU SIGN IN FOR EACH OF THE SIX CHECK INS - EACH CHECK IN REFLECTS A SPECIFIC FOUR HOUR AND DISTINCT BLOCK OF TIME/DATE IN YOUR GLOBAL LOCATION

You have to sign in for each check in point out of six Check INs that you want to get official credit for: (THE IDEAL IS TO READ FOR ALL 6 BUT THAT IS HARD TO DO) - each four hour block of time is for a specific time slot - check in THREE is for 4PM UNTIL 8PM on April 8th. The minimum time spent on the readathon allowed is one hour out of 24 and a mandatory check in - of at least one Check In and the mandatory Check Out which is your final official tally. The check ins have one template and the check out is different and is the final tabulation point with its own template. Remember the ideal for the readathon is to make and check in at each of the official check in gates (there are six) and then officially check out the next day at the CHECK OUT THREAD - which is always Check Point Seven.

OK here is how I would sign in and I would fill in the blanks that I know at the beginning of the time slot timeframe and then I would complete the template at the end of the four hours and then do the same thing moving to Check In FOUR

I am showing you a sample of how I sign in for Check In THREE absent any explanations

BLANK TEMPLATE

60. Aloha - Aloha we need to know more information for the readathon - city, state, country and timezone - if you are from a foreign country then we need closest city, state, and country plus timezone - for privacy I state - Metro NYC, NY/NJ - Eastern Standard Time so that is the way you still give the specific information but give enough specifics for the readathon - so please let us know some general specifics

61. ShawnLeeZX - Central District, 00, Hong Kong - did not receive timezone location information - but I will assume based upon the profile that it is going to be Hong Kong Time Zone - UTC+08:00 - it appears if the above is correct that you are 12 hours ahead of Bentley in NYC so you will be starting the Readathon 12 hours sooner than Bentley will - so you should start at 8AM your time and this is the first check in thread. Your 8AM on 4/8 is 8PM on 4/7 for Bentley so you are posting earlier than Eastern Standard Time

62. Kaye - New Jersey - Eastern Standard Time - Kaye could you give a city that you are closest to - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

63. Jaydee414 - Maryland - Eastern Shore - EST - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

64. Kim Verstraeten - Belgium, Central European Summer Time - what city are you closer too. Bentley uses Metro NYC, NY -EST - it appears that are going to start with this check in thread 6 hours ahead of NYC so you would be starting at 2AM Bentley's NYC time - I do not have more information from you so that is my assumption - use your local time - 8AM - 4/8 as the start time

65. Monica A - New York City, New York, USA - Eastern Standard Time (EST) - Start Time 8AM Saturday - EST - 4/8

66. Luis Frauca remacha - zero information - need city, state, country and timezone

Wait List Folks - the Maybes - Bentley is not counting on you participating - there is a fair amount of preparation for Readathons so folks cannot just show up. Make sure that you have signed up for the Readathons and set up your shelves. We have information posted elsewhere which would help you with this. Let us know that you want to participate by changing your maybe to yes ahead of time and make sure to include your city, state, country and timezone or if you are a global member - your city or province, country, timezone - you can maintain your privacy and give enough details for the readathon where time, timezone, location are critical. For example, I post Metro NYC, NY - Eastern Standard Time. So please make sure to let us know ahead of time by letting Bentley know.

JOIN THE READATHON OFFICIAL LISTING:

All - before beginning make sure that you have first signed in to the Readathon itself and signed up.

Here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

Scroll down to the bottom of the readathon text and make sure you have joined the Readathon and then at the bottom you will see how you can set up your shelf to document your readathon completion progress. You will set up the name for your shelf and indicate how many books you would like to complete during the Readathons.

Once you have joined the official Readathon list - you do not have to join that set up again because we carry over the previous list from year to year.

You can always update your shelf from year to year and change the number of books you want to complete and the name of the shelf for that year easily. You can always do updates and edits.

Of course, you have to sign up for the Readathon event but as far as your Readathon shelf - you will be set up.

All, this is the thread that everybody goes to next after completing Check In - Checkpoint Two - this is Check In - Checkpoint Three and folks sign in here if they are reading during the Readathon between the hours of 4PM and 8PM on your April 8th.

First you are immediately going to come here and check in and after completing Check In TWO - Checkpoint - you always check in immediately at the beginning of each the four hour time slots for each four hour period. This is Check In - Checkpoint THREE and you are in the right spot if you are reading during the hours of 4PM and 8PM on April 8th.

Do a copy and paste of blank template that is used on all check ins
read messages 3, 4, 5 closely. And post your hello and entry.

Approximately 15 minutes before the end of the check in THREE period - at about 7:45PM - come back in again to the check in and fill in all of the completed data and stats and citations for that four hour time slot.

Once you have checked in and completed the check in - then you will move to the next check in and do it all over again.

There are six check ins and at the very least you have to hit one - and no matter if you had one check in - all the way up to six - EVERYBODY HAS TO CHECK OUT THE FOLLOWING DAY AT NOON.

The mandatory check out has its own template.

First hello to everyone who has made it to Checkpoint Three - you are half way through the readathon.

If you are from the East Coast - you should be here - this is the 4PM to 8PM time block. Eastern Standard Time.

Hong Kong - it is 6:39AM so anybody in Hong Kong can be reading and posting in Checkpoint Six.

Australia - I am not sure what happened to you but you should be finished and doing check out - Checkpoint Seven

China - I am not sure what happened to you - I did finally see Hong Kong - you still have time to take part in the Readathon - you can post in Check in - Checkpoint Six and still take place and then when you get done - you have to check out on the mandatory check out which is Checkpoint Seven.

London - I do not know what happened to you but it is 11:40 PM so you can still participate in the readathon if you sign into Checkpoint Four quickly and then check in to Checkpoint Five next which is the time block from Midnight to 4AM and then Checkpoint Six which is the time block from 4AM until 8AM and then you would have to check out by Noon - CHECKPOINT SEVEN - mandatory check out.

Turkey - Doris and others - you can still participate and sign in to Checkpoint Five, then Six and then check out on Checkpoint Seven. I did see Doris

Central Time - you folks should be here now it is 5:44PM where you are.

Mountain Time - it is 4:45 PM where you are so you should be just starting and beginning this Check point - Checkpoint Three

Pacific Time - also Vancouver Canada - you folks are still in Checkpoint Two - but in thirteen minutes you should be moving to this checkpoint - Checkpoint Three

Hawaii - you should be in Checkpoint TWO

Netherlands and Belgium - we don't know what happened to you both but you can still participate by checking in to Check in FIVE, then SIX, then Checkout SEVEN

Bogota, Columbia - what happened to you? You can still participate and you should check in to Checkpoint Three which matches the time where you are right now - it is 5:53 PM where you are - so check in to 3, then 4 and if you can keep going 5 and 6 and then everyone has to do Checkout -Checkpoint Seven.

Buenos Aires, 07, Argentina - where are you? You can still participate - you can start CHECKPOINT 4 and post your template and then do 5 and 6 if you can and then do the mandator CHECKPOINT SEVEN checkout.

Hawaii - you should be just signing in to Checkpoint TWO

Kathy I see your check out comment.
Your citation was slightly off:

My Brilliant Friend (The Neapolitan Novels #1) by Elena Ferrante by Elena Ferrante (no photo)

This is the listing that you posted:

Genre: Historical Fiction
Start Page: 136
End Page: 172
Total Pages Read: 36
Total Hours Read: 1.25
Total Books Read: this means the number of books you read a portion of so your answer really is 1 - - this line was missing
Total Books Completed: 0
Location: Foothills of the Great Smoky Mtns, GA, USA, Eastern Standard Time

Note: I am inserting what you are missing in the above.

You should be moving on to Checkpoint Four.

Skeetor - one minor thing to correct - the Books read line means how many books did you sample reading during the time block - your answer is at least one.

The Books Completed line means how many books did you complete in total:

I hope this helps. You should be moving on to Checkpoint Four

Bentley | 44291 comments Mod
@Christopher - message 29 - you are doing good.

However you are missing one line:

Total Books Read: your answer would be 1 but if read multiple books during the time period they might say 2 or 3 that you sampled - this line you have missing from your template
Total Books Completed: that is different - that means the books that you have completed end to end

Congrats on finishing your book. Good job.

Enjoy your lunch and when you get back dive into Shakespeare. You have time.

Mehrdad- You are looking good but you too are missing one line from your template:

OK Debye - see you on Four - but you still need to update message 16 for completion details

And remember to add the missing line
Total Books Read:
Total Books Completed

These mean different things - did you read multiple works during the time frame - that might be yes - and we are asking for how many

And then the next one - Total Books Completed: that means did you finish any books from cover to cover.

@message 17 Diana - your citations are getting better.

But you do not have to put in the text of the title - you can just type it normally:

Hi, this is Diana checking in for Checkpoint 3 from Eaton, Ohio EST.

I will be reading the following books:

How to Be a Victorian by Ruth Goodman by Ruth Goodman (no photo)

and

Vimy The Battle and the Legend by Tim Cook by Tim Cook Tim Cook

I am starting with the Goodman book:

Genre: History - British
