THREE - 2017 - Readathon Eleven Date: April 8th, 2017 - 4PM - 8PM - Check- In - CHECKPOINT THREE - THIRD CHECK IN
Remember folks this is the check in for anybody reading during the hours of 4PM until 8PM on April 8th (wherever in the world you are - use your time zone). If you want to get credit for any reading done during these four hours you must check in on this thread - Checkpoint 3. But for the check in to count - you must post between the hours of 4PM and 8PM on April 8th in the time zone that you are in. This is the Checkpoint for those hours on April 8th. To get credit for these hours this is the thread you must post on
REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.
Make sure to answer the following:
REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.
Make sure to answer the following:
Name of Book and Author or books and authors:
Genre or genres:
Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.
Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.
How much time did you read during this block of time:
Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?
Also, your location in the world and timezone
DETAILED EXAMPLE AND EXPLANATIONS
This is how your template could look when you sign in - you can put in the blank template which you will finish up a half hour before the end of the check in time in your location and then post the blank template in the check in - this is check in THREE and then you would go to check in FOUR and do the same thing again with the blank template and then add the additional pages read etc.
So at the beginning - you would check in.
Hi, this is Bentley - checking in from New York City - Metro New York City area - New York/New Jersey - USA - Eastern Standard Time - giving my name, my city/state location - country would be USA - and my Timezone.
Then I might post the blank template because I am just signing in as follows:
Folks I am going to read Black Flags for starters or Lindbergh by A. Scott Berg
by
Joby Warrick
by A. Scott Berg (no photo)
Here is where you post the citations of any books that you would be sampling or reading during this check in time period. Notice that each check in is a four hour block of time and where ever you are in the world you should be reading during that time period on that date for that check in and posting during that time period wherever you are locally.
Then the remainder of the blank template would be:
Genre: In the case of the book that I am reading - Non Fiction - Middle East
Start Page: 40
End Page: The last page you have read during this four hour time slot
Total Pages Read: Here you put in the number of pages you read totally in all of the books sampled during this time slot
Total Hours Read: Here you would put in the number of hours or actual time you spent reading during this time slot
Total Books Read: Here you put in the number of books you are sampling during this time slot and reading - you could be reading two or more books at the same time but you could also just be reading one
Total Books Completed: Here you put in the number of books you completed during this time slot
Location: NYC (Metro New York area) - NY/NJ - USA - Eastern Standard Time (EST)
On location - put in your city, state, country wherever you are generally - of course protect your privacy - and add your timezone - in my case I added Eastern Standard Time and the abbreviation EST
And if I completed the book that I was reading in this time slot - I would add the full citation at the bottom

EASY SAMPLE OF TEMPLATE AND HOW YOU SIGN IN FOR EACH OF THE SIX CHECK INS - EACH CHECK IN REFLECTS A SPECIFIC FOUR HOUR AND DISTINCT BLOCK OF TIME/DATE IN YOUR GLOBAL LOCATION
You have to sign in for each check in point out of six Check INs that you want to get official credit for: (THE IDEAL IS TO READ FOR ALL 6 BUT THAT IS HARD TO DO) - each four hour block of time is for a specific time slot - check in THREE is for 4PM UNTIL 8PM on April 8th. The minimum time spent on the readathon allowed is one hour out of 24 and a mandatory check in - of at least one Check In and the mandatory Check Out which is your final official tally. The check ins have one template and the check out is different and is the final tabulation point with its own template. Remember the ideal for the readathon is to make and check in at each of the official check in gates (there are six) and then officially check out the next day at the CHECK OUT THREAD - which is always Check Point Seven.
OK here is how I would sign in and I would fill in the blanks that I know at the beginning of the time slot timeframe and then I would complete the template at the end of the four hours and then do the same thing moving to Check In FOUR
I am showing you a sample of how I sign in for Check In THREE absent any explanations

You do not have to check in and read for all six check ins so there is no problem with your battlefield training for reenactment - I will assume for now you are 5 hours ahead and that you will be posting and checking in 5 hours before 8AM NYC - so you will be starting at 3AM EST time which will be your local time of 8AM - so use your local time. 60. Aloha - Aloha we need to know more information for the readathon - city, state, country and timezone - if you are from a foreign country then we need closest city, state, and country plus timezone - for privacy I state - Metro NYC, NY/NJ - Eastern Standard Time so that is the way you still give the specific information but give enough specifics for the readathon - so please let us know some general specifics
61. ShawnLeeZX - Central District, 00, Hong Kong - did not receive timezone location information - but I will assume based upon the profile that it is going to be Hong Kong Time Zone - UTC+08:00 - it appears if the above is correct that you are 12 hours ahead of Bentley in NYC so you will be starting the Readathon 12 hours sooner than Bentley will - so you should start at 8AM your time and this is the first check in thread. Your 8AM on 4/8 is 8PM on 4/7 for Bentley so you are posting earlier than Eastern Standard Time

Wait List Folks - the Maybes - Bentley is not counting on you participating - there is a fair amount of preparation for Readathons so folks cannot just show up. Make sure that you have signed up for the Readathons and set up your shelves. We have information posted elsewhere which would help you with this. Let us know that you want to participate by changing your maybe to yes ahead of time and make sure to include your city, state, country and timezone or if you are a global member - your city or province, country, timezone - you can maintain your privacy and give enough details for the readathon where time, timezone, location are critical. For example, I post Metro NYC, NY - Eastern Standard Time. So please make sure to let us know ahead of time by letting Bentley know.

And then the next one - Total Books Completed: that means did you finish any books from cover to cover.
And remember to add the missing line

@Monica - message 19
Monica - you need to try with the citations - we have a citation rule and I think I did these earlier for you. If you need some assistance - there is the Mechanics of the Board thread in the Help Desk folder.

Please let us know who is reading during these this period of time.
Let us know the following:
So for example:
The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott
If you finished a book - let us know that too and make sure to get it added to your readathon shelf so you can get credit for it. If it is added properly it will show up on your shelf. You have to make sure to have selected a readathon shelf and when you are done with the first book for your readathon - make sure to add the completed date and that the book is read versus currently reading.
It will show up on your shelf if you have done this properly.
Remember wherever you are you can participate in the readathon.
And if you only have one hour or four hours or plan to do this for the entire 24 hour period taking of course breaks for eating and sleeping - you can join for however long you want to read. We want to keep track of the books completed, the books started, the books in progress, the number of pages read by all, and the different genres. Great fun and this is only the eleventh readathon - we will use the same readathon challenge for all of them so you can see your readathon shelves grow.
Additionally these books that you complete on the readathon can be added to other shelves for the Japan or Ireland challenge or the 2017 50 Books Challenge or the goodreads yearly challenge - the sky is the limit. Any genre is welcome.
