Leslie's 2017 Book Buddy Challenge
All of these I already own, so that's why they may not be the *best* picks from your lists. I buy paperbacks all the time that I'm not dying to read either because I got them on a huge sale or they were signed, or in the case of The Virgin Romance Novelist, won. This will totally clean up a huge chunk of my paperback shelves so I'm excited!
Ela: How to Kill a Rock Star
Anna: Making Faces
Nay: Bad Romeo
Tessa: Bully
Paula: Sempre
Fabi: Try
Jan: The Turning Point
Melinda: 53 Letters for My Lover
Jean: Mud Vein
Tasha: What Alice Forgot
Michelle: A Court of Thorns and Roses
Grey: The Virgin Romance Novelist
Lisa: The Hating Game
Leslie: Something Borrowed
Maryse: The Martian
These are the ones I'll be adding:
Cheryl: The Monday Girl
DG: Transcendence
Amy: Forbidden
Bev: Captive Prince
Lisa A: Whispers and the Roars
Oh, The Hating Game. I want more CR likeit and Lucy Parker's. Though the price point was so high.
I know right now I'm looking at Forbidden and Captive Prince and thinking paperback because of the high e-book price!
This is so cool! I'm working on my list now. Robin--I also think you'll love Transcendence. From what I remember, it's kind of swoony and just seems like a 'Robin book' to me.
And that's a great idea to use pb's you already have! I'm going to try to see if I can use any of my 500 pb's that are just sitting around here collecting dust for my list as well. I just don't know if I can read a pb anymore because I'm so used to the Kindle. Isn't that strange??? I was one of the ones who held out forever before I finally even bought a Kindle. I was all 'I need to feel the book in my hands' (so dramatic! lol)
Fabi--yes, I'm planning to read the ones I pick this year.
Fabi wrote: "So, are y'all planning on getting these read this year?"I was planning on trying to knock out as many of my paperbacks as I can anyway, so I suppose so! I think I'll use that random picker I use for my newsletter drawings to pick one each time so it will be random! Here's the link if anyone wants to try it! https://www.classtools.net/random-nam...
Fabi - Yes, to read this year. Robin - Nice list!!
Nay - I cannot for the life of me read a paper book anymore. :( Can't wait to what you come up with for your picks.
I prefer reading the e-book, and when I get a paperback on Amazon and can get the e-book for .99, I usually do. Still, I like holding them and smelling them and I can't resist when they're the same price! Plus, I can LEND them because they're MINE! That non-lending thing with pricey e-books grates me!
Nay, I was like you. I felt like one of the last holdouts on paper books. But once I went electronic, there was no going back. The comfort, the features, the privacy and portability, just can't be beat.
I love this challenge! Just caught up on all your comments off the blog. I won't be able to make my list til tomorrow though. I'm in (although I can't pledge to get to ALL of them)!
I'm going to hold off on the other challenge idea I mentioned on the blog. So many of you are running with this one and it's quite a list of books for each of you. One more challenge right now seems like too much.I wish I could commit to this one myself. I remember we did something similar a couple of years ago when Maryse posted each of our favorites. But, I can't this year. I can't commit to this many more books on top of what I already have scheduled.
Fabi, didnt you read a book from everyone's favorites or try too?
I have so many off of old favorites lists, it is just the commitment. I havent even read my March pick.
Might make a fun summer challenge though, along with trying not to buy so much during the summer.

Me too! Right now I'm cleaning Briana's room and listening to the audio of The Man I Love. OMG I just busted out in tears with "When James Dow came into Mallory Hall on the afternoon of..." I think I'm tired lol. Thank god Stephan is doing yard work!
I may pick something off of there to start tonight!
And I'm totally up for your challenge too if anyone else is! It just makes it fun to pick what to read!
I did Bev. What was that, a year or two ago? It's the one I mentioned above when Maryse posted each of our favorites.Hmmm, ok Robin. I guess I can open a discussion and see how many want to do it.
Fabi--I'm also up for both challenges. I don't have a schedule of books, just editing when it comes around, but we just finished a book, so it'll be a while before we really get rolling on the next book. Bring it on if you want to!
I'm giving myself three months to get through these, because... mood. :D Also, squirrel. Ela:
Anna: Outlander
Cheryl: Full Tilt by Emma Scott
Nay: Darkest Night by Gena Showalter
DG: Frenched by Melanie Harlow
R. Renee: Simon vs The Homosapian Project
Amy:
Bev: Landline
Paula: Commitment by Nia Forrester
Fabi: In the After Light by Alexandra Bracken
Jan: Sabriel by Garth Nix
Melinda: Alpha by Jasinda Wilder
Jean: Loving Mister Daniels
Tasha: On the Jellicoe Road
Michelle: Familiar Stranger
Grey: Beautiful Stranger
Lisa: Read My Lips by Daryl Banner
Leslie: Hunger Games
Lisa A: Complete Submission by CD Reiss
Maryse:
Niki - Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop
Fabi, I can do both, especially if it's quarterly. The other one, I'll have to make a list still. There's tons of books that I want to read that for whatever reason haven't. That's why I'm doing this one. I just need to read these books.
I love this idea so hard! brilliant, just brilliant we are! we truly have the best book club ever!
Well, I was well intentioned, but so far I've alphabetized everyone's names for my list, because anal, and I've looked over Anna's favorites. Now the Kentucky game's on, so I'll get my list up after that.I agree, Grey!
Nay... can you post the alphabetized list please? that would be soooo helpful as I am on my phone stuck at a never ending dress rehearsal for my daughter for a dance competition. haha!

And see, I even clarified Robin and me--like I said, anal. Please let me know if I left anyone off.
No prob at all. I love doing stuff like that, hence why I can't get any reading done lately. I'm constantly being distracted by 'busy work'!
If anyone else wants to do this, I'm happy to look over your TBR for you and make suggestions of my faves! :)Nay, you are a sweet-pea.
Tessa, I'm totally SQUEEING over The Hunger Games! If you like it, you need to watch movie after reading it. Movies are awesome too!!
Fabi wrote: "Leslie, have you read The Testing? It has a similar feel to The Hunger Games."I havent....I actually never heard of it. Just checked it out. It looks interesting. :)
Um... I saw the movies already. That's the main reason I'm having troubles starting it. It's one thing to read it, but the movie really made me uneasy about it. The kids dying just hurts.
Tessa wrote: "Um... I saw the movies already. That's the main reason I'm having troubles starting it. It's one thing to read it, but the movie really made me uneasy about it. I typically cannot read super sad and I'm a total book wuss, but get through it (and I constantly re-read and re-watch). If you end up hating it, at least you gave it a shot! ;)
I'm liking this idea, but I'm not sure whether I can commit to any more challenges, what with all the new stuff coming out all the time as well. But I guess I'll make a list cos I just might pick up some gems from your favs :)
Jan130 wrote: "I'm liking this idea, but I'm not sure whether I can commit to any more challenges, what with all the new stuff coming out all the time as well. But I guess I'll make a list cos I just might pick u..."I understand. For me the challenges alleviate stress by choosing books off my TBR. I'm trying to focus on not adding new books and reading more TBR for 2017. If you do up the list and end up not getting to them, who cares? Move them to 2018 instead or whatever. If making the list at all is too much, skip the challenge, no worries. ;)
OK I did my random spinner twice and got Captive Prince and Whispers and the Roars. CP is almost the same price paperback and ebook so I'll probably order that one, but is this one I'm going to read and NEED the follow up post haste?
Captive Prince! Captive Prince! OMG Prince Laurent is one of the greatest characters ever! Complex, mysterious, intelligent, beautiful to look at, an incredible fighter, intriguing, contradictory .... blah blah blah. I'm running out of adjectives. I haven't read Whispers, but everyone has to at least try Captive Prince! And you know it's mm, right? Not usually my thang actually, but I floved this one.
Jan130 wrote: "Captive Prince! Captive Prince! OMG Prince Laurent is one of the greatest characters ever! I would have started it first because it came up first but I really think I should order the paperback because of the price. And with the mail theft ring I'm enjoying right now I have to drive almost an hour round trip to pick it up from the PO Box! I plan to start it hopefully Wed or Thurs.
I think it is a wonderful read. Great world building and and story telling. And like Jan I loved Laurent. I love that he is so brilliant.
However, I can see how it might not work for some. If you love it you'll want #2. I devoured them both back to back. If you don't like it......
#3 was one of my favorites last year. Completely giddy reading the first part of it, lol.

I found book 2 on bookoutlet.come for $4 so I can get 1 and 3 on Amazon and 2 there...just need to find more books to justify the shipping! #bookproblems If I didn't have this stupid mail issue I'don't just order them 1 at a time, but I'd rather take the chance than make multiplie trips to the PO box.

Bev, I am totally squeeing about my faves being read too!!!
I just realized so many of my picks are series. I'm going to be very busy reading tons of sequels!! This is awesome though, I will have my reads basically all planned out for me. I love this!!!
Now I'm excited to create my list for Fabi's challenge. This is like a book nerds dream come true. :)
