If you want and feel up to it, feel free to post the theme :) I probably won't see it before you do since it's around 4pm my time when the theme is usually called and I'm typically still at work for another hour or two...

Definitely a partial win! It's always awesome when you can match a book to multiple challenges! XD

For option 2, you can read any book that one of our teammates has read in the last six months (on or after the "key date" in the announcement post) provided that they rated it 3 stars or more (even if they read it for this challenge, I think as long as it was before the theme call that you want to use it for since there doesn't seem to be a rule that prohibits it).

This was cute, fun and sweet and I absolutely adore it. Mal and Cassidy are really cute together and I have to admit that I was freaking out that it had ended... then I realized Mal and Cassidy have another book. Score! And then I realized I actually can't find a copy of it... argh! I have a feeling that this will never make it off of my to-read-again shelf no matter how many times I read it. Now if I could just find Tabloid Trouble...

Review: This was pure fluff. There wasn't really a plot to this one though I'm pretty sure plot went out the window. I think they are gearing up for something with Betsy's sister but I'm not sure. I found myself rolling my eyes A LOT and just getting annoyed with every character, even dreamy Eric.

Rating (1-5) : 3.5
Review : This was my first book by Amanda Quick and enjoyed it. It was a funny and entertaining book with a fossil hunter heroine and a hero who is considered a beast due to his appearance and shady reputation. Gideon was caring and dictatorial and Harriet was silly sometimes, but it was a light read with many twists in the story

Week #2
Book:
A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab by V.E. Schwab
Rating: 2.5 stars
Review:
I'll be honest. I expected to like this book.

No, I actually expected to LOVE this book and it thoroughly disappointed me. I honestly don't understand why everyone has rated it so highly.

I really liked the world that Schwab built. It had all the makings of being very interesting, but for some reason it just fell flat for me. I didn't really care about any of the characters until about 85% of the way through, when I actually became intrigued by Lila. The only character that really intrigued me throughout was Holland, but personally, I think this entire book would have been better if it had been told from his perspective.

Kell didn't interest me. He just seemed like your run-of-the-mill fantasy heroes with a knack for magic and who's good with a sword. Lila was the book's only saving grace, but again, I didn't really even start to be interested in her until I was almost finished with the book.

I don't know. Maybe it was just too YA for me? I really haven't been able to stomach YA lately, unless its Rainbow Rowell. And specifically fantasy has been hard for me to get into, unless the characters are much more complex and... let's say darker. The whole time I was reading this I just kept wishing I was reading Heir to the Shadows or any other book by Anne Bishop. Her books are like a drug, man. I can't stop!

Option 1 Fairytales - Compulsory Lists

Firelight (Darkest London, #1) by Kristen Callihan
Title/Link Firelight by Kristen Callihan
Date Read Mar 21, 2017
My Rating: ★★★★
My Review :

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Fairy tale retellings are a recent discovery for me and I loved how the author pulled off her version of Beauty and the Beast in Firelight. The first time Archer sees Miranda was a fantastic hook, introducing a young Miranda to the reader as the strong, independent woman she will become.

Archer won my heart over in this first encounter. I have to add that the author's portrayal of his curse, especially the slow reveal, was really fascinating! It added a lot of mystery to what Miranda would find behind his mask and kept me guessing at what he might look like.

Once Archer and Miranda are together, I was in love with this couple! Archer's tenderness is so endearing as is the fact that Miranda was never truly afraid of him. (view spoiler) Their love grew over time, along with the trust...my favorite kind of love story.

The murder mystery plot added to the spooky ambiance and 'darkness' working to destroy our hero. Even though that portion of the book didn't really "wow" me, it added so much to my visual impression of a dark London night. I gave me chills at times as I could easily see the fog wafting over the empty night streets. There are many great visual cues to help the reader fall into the story with ease. It will be fun to see what the author does next in the world she has created.

Overall, this is a very nice 1st in series book!

I enjoyed this book and the whole concept of Earth and higher beings retaliating against the humans to see if the race is worthy of saving. I have to admit I was a bit lost in parts of this booking having dived right in, I don't normally do re-reads but I think I'm going to need to start at the beginning of this series and come back to this one.

Option 1
11. Your own 'bear' hunt! Read a book with a male MC who is a bear, not necessarily a shifter from one of the following lists. (In contemporay romance, a 'bear' is a big tall male, possibly hairy.)

I'll Be Goldilocks: WereBears and Bear Shifters in Romance
Gentle Giants in Contemporary Romance
Petite Heroine/Big Hero
Gay Romance with Big Ugly Grizzly Bear MCs
Gay Bear Stories

These are compulsory lists. Your selected book MUST come from one of these lists. You must link to the list and note which page/which number it is on that list.

LOL. I'm assuming you mean "what do you do as an occupation" since I have no solution for corrupt files other than finding a way to recreate them... so (to answer your question?) I'm a research scientist/teacher, genetics mostly, some modeling, so there is a lot of data, often image and statistics-wise... You? Was it just that the program couldn't support the amount of data or some other problem? (now I'm burning with curiosity about what program you were using)

I loved this one; it's definitely a favorite of mine. Although I did sort of spoil it for myself... after reading the first chapter I just had to know so I skipped foward to all of the pages I could find that had Curran's name on it, read those, then actually read the book. I think that's probably the first time I've actually done that. Totally worth it but I sort of hate myself a bit for doing it... spoiled the surprise.
