25.12 - Janet F's Task: A Trivial Challenge

This task is built around randomly selected questions from the original Trivial Pursuit game.

This is a two book task. Trivial Pursuit uses one die. Roll one die
and use that # for one option and choose a different option for your other book.

Required: Indicate the option # you rolled and the option you chose when you post.

1. GEOGRAPHY - What U.S. state's name begins but doesn't end with the letter A.?

Read a book with a word of at least 4 letters in the title/subtitle that begins with an A but doesn't end with an A. Words such as 'America's' and 'Alice' are okay.

2. ENTERTAINMENT - Who defended Tyrone Power in 'Witness for the Prosecution'?

Since the film 'Witness for Prosecution' was based on a short story by Agatha Christie.
Read a book by Agatha Christie or one of these authors determined by GR to be similar to Agatha Christie at the start of the Summer Challenge

The accepted author list is:
Agatha Christie
Arthur Conan Doyle
Bill Cameron
Ngaio Marsh
Richard Lancelyn Green
Georgette Heyer
Mary Westmacott
Jan Neuharth
Margery Allingham
P.D. James
Deneane Clark
Rex Stout
Gillian Gill
Dorothy L. Sayers
Detection Club
Linda Jacobs
Dick Riley
Eliot Pattison

3. HISTORY - What mausoleum did Mogul Shah Jahan build to the memory of his favorite wife?

Read a book with a building on the cover. Exteriors only, not interior rooms. Skylines and city scenes are OK.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro Wolf Willow by Wallace Stegner City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare The Wine of Angels (Merrily Watkins, #1) by Phil Rickman

Required: Include the cover in your post.

4. ARTS & LITERATURE - What are little boys made of?

Read a book with adjective that can describe size* in the title or subtitle. Words like big, little, grand, great, petite, tiny, small, giant, tall, etc. would work.
*Dictionary.com will be the reference used to determine the part of speech and/or word definition.

Required: Identify the adjective when you post.

5. SCIENCE & NATURE - What is a Portuguese man-of-war?

Read a book with the Author's initials found in PORTUGUESE in any order. Middle names excluded. Letters may only be used as often as they appear in the word.

6. SPORTS & LEISURE - What position do baseball's Cy Young Award winners play?

Read a book that was a WINNER of one of these awards:
National Book Award Winners
Booker Prize Winners

Required: Identify the award and year

Optional - Be the first to post the correct answer to the Trivial Pursuit Question for your book when you post.

I'm not sure on that one since I think Del is part of the last name. However, I don't mind approving it as long as the Mods accept it. I like to stay consistent with the Standard SRC guidelines.

Option 5: The Billionaire's Fake Engagement by Robyn Grady.

Your choices meet the specific guidelines, Just be sure you post all the required info (like you did in this post) in the 'completed task' thread

Janet F (janet_f) | 450 comments response to Peebee

Well...I didn't require that it needed to be politically correct. It does meet all of the guidelines. One of the definitions of 'fat' is 'well-fed' so I think that gives it a slightly less negative spin. Better 'well-fed' than 'emaciated' which is a primary definition of 'skinny'.

I enjoyed Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by that author.

see my response above- I had trouble commenting as a 'reply' earlier, it kept hyperlinking everything.

Janet F (janet_f) | 450 comments Sandra wrote: "Would Guillermo del Toro work for Option #5 (initials GT)?"

I asked the Mods just to be sure it will be okay. GT are the initials for Guillermo del Toro for the challenge.

Sandy wrote:

The mods have been discussing this issue. In order to keep things consistent for the mods and the participants, we'll be sticking with the rule that a word is a separate word if there's a space in front of or after it (as opposed to a hyphen or the words being put together in one word). An author's first name is the first word listed and an author's last name is the last word listed. We realize that this is not exactly accurate, since Mr. del Toro most likely considers this his last name, but for simplicity, consistency, and predictability, this is how we're handling names. This author's initials are GT for purposes of the challenge
