Jordyn Frederick | 3 comments Okay, so, I recently watched the movie Her, and now I'm hoping to find other stories like it. In a nutshell, I'm hoping to a story where a human falls in love with Siri, so to speak--except she has emotions and more just a select few answers.

I'm not picky--I'll read same or opposite gendered romance if that becomes a factor.

Thanks to anyone who helps out.

There's a story in here about a human woman and a male robot's affair.
Also in The Robots of Dawn, but that's the third of a trilogy.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 433 comments There's a great graphic novel series: Alex + Ada: The Complete Collection From JONATHAN LUNA (THE SWORD, GIRLS, Spider-Woman: Origin) and SARAH VAUGHN (Sparkshooter, Ruined) comes ALEX + ADA, a sci-fi/drama set in the near future. The last thing in the world Alex wanted was an X5, the latest in realistic androids. But after Ada is dropped into his life, he discovers she is more than just a robot. Alex takes a huge risk to unlock Ada so she can think for herself and explore life as a sentient android. Can they survive the consequences?

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Does it have to be an AI that's housed in a computer or other non-mobile item, or do robotic AIs count? That would probably open up the possibilities, though of course I can't think of any good examples at the moment.

For regular computers:

The Cybernetic Samurai by Victor Milan is about a woman who is part of a project attempting to create the world's first artificial intelligence. When they succeed, it falls in love with her. I don't remember a single other thing about the book, but I don't regret reading it so it can't have been too bad.

This is a minor plot point in the Safehold series by David Weber, which starts with Off Armageddon Reef. Several books into the series, a main-ish character dies but they manage to upload his brain into a computer first. He continues to have a relationship with his wife via virtual reality. I wouldn't recommend reading the entire series just for this subplot, unless you also really enjoy military science fiction and repeated battle scenes.

The story "Cycles."

There is at least one sequel.

How about an AI housed in a biological body (most of the time)? Fool's War - I, uh, have things to say about this book, but they might be spoilers. (view spoiler) But other than that, a really good book (but not overly-focused on the relationship(s)).

How "in love", is your "in love"? The Moon is a Harsh Mistress has some non-sexual bro-love going on with the man who discovers the first AI (arbitrarily male). (view spoiler)
