Just read an interesting post on on of our threads. Check it out. http://alchemy.catherinemilos.com/
Got my book for free on Smashwords at the moment. I think it lasts for 5 days. Two people have downloaded it for free. I think that takes my total for that platform to about 5 pmsl! Raking it in lol When I posted about it being free one of my friends asked if I still got paid. Awwwwwww. :)
I know. I do find it surprising how many people are under the impression that we make money if it is free. It's not just this, my other business is a sales business, I don't make money unless my customers buy things. I'm sure some of them think I'm paid by the company I'm contracted to just for existing.
Set up my cover reveal for March 30th! I was nervous because Xpresso book tours says that they don't work with every book so I was super excited when she emailed me back and said my date was available and got working on it right away!
People really think authors are paid on a free sale!? What are they paid with? Seriously...*shaking head*

Congratulations, Ember, and others I may have missed. I'm going through a hard time right now, but back to subject:It would be nice if someone could write an article to explain how much hard work goes into our work, and that, why we don't mind giving some away free, a purchase now and then would be appreciated:)
Thanks everyone! I'm super excited and the pre-order went live today also! Awesome things!Sorry to hear you're down Groovy hope things get better! Hugs!

I agree with you Groovy. I watched an interview with a romance author where she said at the height of self-publishing back in 2011, making money was way easier, then KU came along a little later and she did it for a couple months then dropped it because she wasn't making money like she used to. When she did that some of her fans were like "I'm used to getting your books free, im not paying 4.99 for a book!" (Although they had no issues with it before.) Her response was, "thats fine, then you wont read my books". Ha! I think these programs are good for a short period of time but it seems readers gets used to being handed things knowing the importance of reviews and kind of hold authors hostage if they dare to ask for fair pay for their hard work. It's a slippery slope i tell ya.

I've decided that my book is going to sell over 5,000 copies.
I'm saying it out loud now, and I'm going to work so f'ing hard to make it happen.

Yeah. I've sent it to you. I even used my grown up voice. If you're in any doubt don't use it. Although personally I like it and I rarely say that about things I knock up. Either I'm right or I'm over tired. It's 11.20pm-I'm going to bed. Night all. Zzzzzz

I like it. It's going up in a minute, after I'm done with my fries. :D
Mmmmm fries. I'm definitely going to bed now. Coming up to midnight and I'm an ancient species from planet WotEver.
I have very exciting news and I want to share it with you, my Goodreads family.
My son was picked up by a publisher. They bought Monsterland 1 and the unpublished Monsterland 2.
He will be publishing under his real name, Michael Okon, rather than Michael Phillip Cash.
Why would an indie go traditional, you ask?
His dream is to see one of his books made into a movie.
This process took over a year to accomplish. he was picked up by an entertainment attorney, who got him a a literary agent. The literary agent shopped it around at all the big houses and nobody bought. It was too short, too this, too that. Nobody was interested until a chance encounter with a film agent who fell in love with ML. She wanted to shop it around, but unless it was traditionally published, no studio would be interested.
Once this news got out that there was film interest, he was picked up by a small press who is gambling a movie will get made.
Now I will be able to report the difference between indie and traditional. So far, all I can say is it's
S-L-O-W going. The book is in edit, he'll have to rewrite but while all this is going on, Kim will be shopping it around for a film.
So, will a movie get made? I'm not sure. It's still crap shoot, but I'm glad my kid is having the time of his life.
PS I can't think having that book in the swag bags for the award shows for the last year hurt!!

Oh my gosh! That's amazing! Congratulations to your son!
I had some good stuff happening this week also. One of the main things is, I had to change hosting services. Not only is my new host 80% less expensive, their servers are many times faster, their email works a lot better, and the domain transfer happened within hours when they quoted 5-7 business days. Not only that, but I was able to get all my money back form my old host. I won't have to worry about people bouncing away from my art site when they realize it's slow!
Hear Hear, R.L.Thank-you for the hugs, Erica:)
Can't wait to read Amy's article. I'm going to send it everywhere I can.
Congratulations, to your son, Carole. That would be the only way I would go traditional--if a movie was made out of the book.
Good for you, Rohvannyn!
That's awesome news Carole! You must be so very proud!

Congratulations Michael! That's fantastic news to come online and read. Can I ask why he changed his pen name, now that he's sourcing traditional publishing for his book?
I am so proud, Ruth. This is what he wanted when he started this journey. It's nice watching his excitement as it unfolds.
Thanks, Alex and Groovy. It will be both thrilling and interesting to see what happens next. Yes, for me it's more about the sale of his books and I want to see if it makes a difference.

Superb news Carole. I will be so interested to know the differences between the two publishing worlds.
*squealing with excitement* My proof for book 4 came in and it looks awesome! I have never had a book come back so well on my first proof! I either got lucky or I am learning. :) *Does a happy dance*
Me too, Amy. I will tell you we've been in talks with them for over six months and they moved really slow. We wanted to keep his pen name, since I've invested so much time and effort creating spin about it, but they were all adamant they wanted his real name. I'm curious to see how this develops. I want to know their plan of promotion- I have a feeling we are going to have some differences of opinion- but I am curious if his books will sell more. Certainly if he gets a film deal, I think that will put him on the map.
Thanks Erica!!
Thanks Erica!!
I just got a 5 star review from Readers' Favorite!!!
