Yes, the '60s WERE amazing. That was the decade in which I met my wife and eventually got married, finished my graduate work, performed research in Antarctica, spent two years in the Army, and had my first daughter (with some help, of course hahaha), Anything was possible. And yes, I've written about it (The Antarctic Murders Trilogy), Frankly, when I think back, I think of the '50s and '60s as the best of times.
Enter the weirdo:I'd have liked to have witnessed the Black Death without experiencing it. I'm not that much of a masochist.
I didn't pop out until the early 70s and feel like I missed the fun of the 60s.
I too like technology but feel I'm better suited to being filthy rich and not having to work because I came from money in the time when women only stressed about the colour of the lace they wore! Although saying that, women didn't own anything and husbands owned their wives, you know what you can do with that idea. Modern life is too stressful.
I can honestly say I've never felt anything like that. Most of the things I've done have always felt like an uphill struggle going against what is expected of me.Bleugh.
Alex said: I like technology but I'm not sure I'm really suited to the modern world. Hah! That's what my character said/felt in my time travel book. She went back in time - try it Alex. Apparently it's easy...
And, Amy, because she didn't have to work, she had time to write.
Go on, hold hands and toddle off to the cave together.
lol- we lost computers at work this week- the entire company was down. It was brutal. Made me angry to think how dependent we are on technology.

Let's make sure we take the knowledge of how to make a fire and a wheel with us.
I've just recently joined this community, and have been kind of keeping quiet while I learned the ropes around here. But I thought today might be a good time to introduce myself, as my story was featured on a podcast that aired today.I am a wife, mother of four boys, musician, knitwear designer, and writer from northern Alberta, Canada. I just released my second novel, a romantic suspense/gritty women's fiction called "Finding Heaven" Finding Heaven about healing from the hurts of abuse.
Two and a half years ago, our youngest son was tragically killed in a vehicle accident, and in the Restory Show podcast, I share his amazing story and what I have learned from loss. (I also included many of those lessons in my book.)
The podcast can be heard here: http://www.marydemuth.com/4-17/
My own website (and more information about me and my books) is at http://www.talenawinters.com.
Very nice to meet you.
Welcome to the thread, Talena. I'm am so sorry about your son. Thoughts and prayers going your way.

Welcome, Talena. It is nice to meet you. Just finished listening to your podcast. I can't stop crying. While my heart breaks for you and your family, I am encouraged by the strength you have found through God. Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm sorry for the downer, but I am glad my story encouraged you overall. That was my hope. I hope to continue to get to know you better. Happy New Year.
While it is sad, it is an important story that needs to be heard. I am glad you shared. Wishing you a very happy new year as well!

Carole wrote: "Hey guys- list some of the jobs you've done over the years."As a high school student, I was a Boy Scout summer camp counselor for two years. After that, I worked three positions at Motorola (one a very boring assembly job, one a warehouse job, and one janitorial). I was with them for about 2 years all told. After that I was hired by NCR as a mainframe computer operator, which I did for one year before moving into programming, and I've been doing that ever since (over 37 years now).
On the side, I run a small publishing company and of course I write.
There's a random mix of... something I just typed up on Medium if you wouldn't mind sharing. Ta. Zzzzzzhttps://medium.com/@debzcooper/rude-a...
I just went onto the Medium website and applauded a bunch of great articles I couldn't before. Hope this helps. Hugs

So our bookstore contest is literally blowing up. My phone chimes each time there is a visitor and for the last 3 hours every second someone is on the site, voting and exploring even joining the forum over there. There is also a one vote per day, per IP so these are not repeat people.
This is happening because bookstores are telling readers to vote for them. Imagine if all the authors who were featured, encouraged readers to engage and share their stories in magazine? There’d be zero need for us to rely solely on Amazon for exposure and this proves it. Don’t lose hope!

Necessity is the mother of invention.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Very sweet to hear! There have been so many bookstores that have had to close, it breaks my heart. We have almost none in my city.
Where I live I only know of WH Smith’s nearby and Waterstones a drive away. Large chains. I’m not even sure there are independent book stores near me any more.
We have one in my city that's still operational. And they promote indie authors as well trad pub. They have connections with other bookstore chains. They often do book signings. I've been trying to figure out a way to get mine and other indie authors books in there but they run a tight ship. So I don't think it'll be easy. But I'll keep you guys posted. If so, maybe it'll be an opportunity for us all.

I started out at the age of 14 working after school cleaning the library so that I could pay half of my high school tuition. Following that, I worked after school as a "stocker" in the ladies apparel department of K-mart. After getting off work, I would take the city bus back home. Usually, it was about 7:00 pm. After graduation, I attended airline school in Kansas City ( I had high hopes.) I was offered a job as a ticket agent but didn't see Kansas City in my future. The next two years were occupied by honing my skills in the life insurance business, it was both boring and educational. After being married at the age of 20, I began my life as a military wife which lasted for 22 years. Along the way, I gave birth to three children, earned three academic degrees from ivy league colleges and spent 35 years as an RN. I have just published my second book, "Generations Intertwine" and am working on #3.
We've just received our first (pre-release) review of "Ice on the Bay". The review is posted on BookGobbler and the reviewer's blog, Christian Bookaholic. Also, Kathleen finished editing all but the last scene yesterday. She'll have the last scene done today, then I'll make a final pass, and then we should be ready to get the layout and typesetting done. That means we're go for the planned February 26th release with room to spare. Yay!
