My small piece of good news: over the last month or two, my pages read in the UK Amazon have been really improving. They aren't, you know, "good" yet. But any improvement is positive. I still don't get a lot of sales there, but pages read still counts.

I'm trying to think of ways to capitilise on this, but I'm not sure how. Anyone know of UK promo sites that target KU readers?

@ Aislinn - I've been asking the same question for years! I have the same problem as you do, it seems. I've noticed that Amazon UK are accepting sponsored ads, so I asked... They said that only people with a trading account can place ads. So: that's big publishers or anyone who doesn't mind opening a trading account for £25 a month plus the cost of the ads.

I suggest we all contact Amazon UK and ask them to accept ads from Indies. I have.

And yes, I know, it's Christmas Eve, so why was I even working on this? Well . . . because I had the time, because I'm a Baha'i and only indirectly celebrate Christmas, and because (strangely enough) the first scene in the book is a crime that takes place on Christmas Eve, so it's sort of weirdly appropriate that I just happened to complete the ARC edition on Christmas Eve. Go figure...

My son does those lol. Thanks Alexis and Eva. It was only about a thousand words. You know. I’m afraid sometimes it can be boring or even worse I’m afraid of sounding boastful. But I’ve had an interesting few things happen over the years. Funny thing is. I don’t think I knew I was reinventing myself back then. That realization came after I started writing. I thought I was just surviving

I understand where you're coming from, although my reinventions have been small scale in comparison. I've gone from selling car parts I knew nothing about to clothes, being a data entry clerk, a secretary, IT support, server management, would be writer, family, weight loss consultant, author. Basically trying to help pay the bills without feeling like I could murder someone.

I've only worked two jobs in my life (assistant manager in fast food and school psychologist) but the thirty plus years as a school psychologist required relentless reinvention to keep up with the changing needs of the places I worked, as laws changed and children changed. I could never stop going to worshops or reading work related books. The benefit of retiring was that I could now read for pleasure! And wrote something other than special education reports. Lol.

That is so true. I have a friend in the speech therapy field and she constantly goes back for courses. You know, so does my accountant. I think computers, the internet and the information available changed everything for us all.

It has, inded. And in just the past three months I've seen the need to reinvent even as an Indie writer, as possibilities and rules change around us all.

Excellent article, Carole. The ability to reinvent ourselves and the courage to do so is crucial in our ever-changing world. The past twenty-five years have seen me leave my full-time career to stay at home with my kids then work a series of part-time jobs including working at a big-box store, a small bead store, a bank, and a job in the transportation/logistics field that I knew absolutely nothing about and since I worked from a home office, had no one sitting next to me to answer questions. That job cost me some tears as I fumbled my way through, but I’m proud to say I wound up an expert. Now, I’m working as a substitute teacher and as an author and continue to learn every day.

Clarinet tutor-mainly for 5-6th graders, if you have ever heard a child learning to play the clarinet for the first time, you can probably appreciate the tolerance this job requires. lol

Volunteer Venturing scout advisor

Volunteer Youth leader for 7th-12th graders

School speech language pathologist

Hospital/nursing home/rehab speech language pathologist
