Aricia (autumnaleaves) | 104 comments Also, a question for anyone:
When we finish a book for this challenge, is there anything else we need to do besides add it to our bookshelves?

Ghost in the Stacks You will need to post it here, us captains are still talking about how we want you all to post it, but this is kind of what we were thinking.

Hand #&Card:
Book:

How it fits:
Alternate Cards it fits:

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 143 comments Alternate Cards?

I don't know if It's because I'm new to the game, the coffee hasn't kicked it or because I'm coming down with a bug but what are alternative cards?

message 154: by Ghost in the Stacks (last edited Jan 29, 2017 06:41AM) (new)

Ghost in the Stacks Just means, maybe you decide you want to read for Hand 1, card six.
But you book also works#2 cards and #9 cards.

So if your book works for muliple cards, post it, because we may need to switch things around to fill in certain spots.

Nichole and I planned hand 2, since it was the hardest hand we have, so we can knock that one out as soon as hand one is done.

Ghost in the Stacks FYI: We will be asking everyone to stop by here on Saturdays to give us a general update. This shows us captains that you are still here and reading, and gives us a update in what everyone is working on.

message 161: by Aricia (new)

Aricia (autumnaleaves) | 104 comments I tried to word it as best as I could, because I know the following question will sound a bit confusing.
When we have a Draw 2, does that mean the book has to fit in 2 OTHER categories (e.g. Draw 2 works for 0 and 7) or that the book fits in two categories (e.g. Draw 2 and 0)?

message 162: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 143 comments Are we allowed to read books for hand 3 if hand 2 is not complete? Reason I ask is because you only have 2 people covering that hand.

Ghost in the Stacks I had the same question, so no worries.
The MODs stated that it has to fit 2 cards, as well as Draw 2, so techinally the book wpuld be on the sheet three times.
So card 0
Card 7
And card Draw 2

message 164: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I don't believe we need to finish these and any kind of order whatsoever, am I correct?
Not including the first hand :-)

message 165: by Ghost in the Stacks (last edited Jan 29, 2017 10:09AM) (new)

Ghost in the Stacks That is correct Berit, however towards the end of the month we have to fill in top cards.

If we submit hands 1,2,3 4 , half of 5, 6

We only get points for hands 1,2,3,4 and partially 5, 6 would be null in void since we didnt finish 5

After round 1, you can read from any of the 13 hands, in any order

Oh nice. I'm trying to figure out my books and what for what works for what.

message 168: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments Yeah, hand 2 was a booger. We had 3 draw 2 cards and that just screwed my head up, lol. We are basically only reading 2 books total for that hand which is why we went ahead and worked that out between us. Confusing!

message 169: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Is it OK if I just read and post what my books will work for, rather than a specific card, until it is the end of the month? I just don't plan, unless you need me to read another reverse :-)

message 170: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments Basically, read what you want and we will try to fit somewhere. That's why we are asking for alternates. We are going to try and fill them starting at hand 1-13 but may need to move things around.

We also decided to do an update to let everyone know where we stand and what needs filled still. That is why she asked everyone to check in on Saturdays.

The thing that I think is great, is that each card has 6 options to choose from! That makes things a whole lot easier!

Yeah I just went a looked at the actual hand.

So basically once the game starts and we finish hand one we'll meet back through out the week and post the books we've read and all cards said book fits and make hands from that?

message 172: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments I can't plan too far ahead either, Berit :) I'm not a super speedy reader and have to make the 2-3 books I might read in a week fit in multiple challenges that are all "call" challenges. So I never know what will be called for that week.

So, yes, do your magic and we'll do ours and hopefully it all falls into place :)

Nichole | 620 comments I have this thing with numbers...

These numbers do not include the first 2 hands since those are all accounted for. Just to give you an idea of what comes up the most often as some are easier to cover than others.

I've included the letter that corresponds to the tasks as well.

All February Cards at a glance *hopefully, I didn't screw up...*

0/Z= 3 cards
1/O= 5 cards
2/T= 5 cards
3/H= 8 cards
4/F= 7 cards
5/I= 5 cards
6/S= 5 cards
7/V= 7 cards
8/E= 5 cards
9/N= 3 cards
Skip/K or P= 8 cards
Reverse= 6 cards
Draw Two= 3 cards **this cancels out some (6) of the above cards needed
Wild= 3 cards
Wild Draw 4= 4 cards

Ghost in the Stacks I can't do list....I am pretty random with what I read. Just depends on my mood

message 189: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 143 comments Funny thing is I love lists, like making and looking at but following them I fail at. Like for for example I'll have a list and pick at random from it. Each week I have a number that is my go to number for that week. I can be very indecisive at times, so when I can't pick I let the number pick for me. This weeks number is 5, so If I can't figure out what I want to eat or read etc, I'll go the 5th option, if it works or calls to me I'll go with it, if not the next 5th thing until I find something I like. It's weird I know but it's me. It's one of my quirks, I like to think it keeps things interesting,

message 190: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 92 comments Beloved (The Trilogy, #1) by Toni Morrison

Next colour: Black!

message 191: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 92 comments I've started a shelf called "Uno Possibles" so I've added all the books that I physically own that will work, then from there I can whittle down my choices. Then if there really isn't anything I feel like reading on there I will check out my online library.

After this first hand my choices are pretty wide open so I'll probably just pick whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.

I think for my Card 5 pick I'm going to start with Black Dogs by Ian McEwan. I was going to re-read Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut but that one fits with a tonne of different cards so I think I'll hold onto that one for later in February. I wanted to actually re-read the four Vonnegut books that I do own so that will fit well with card #7 which is a "V" which could possibly be tricky. We have seven 7's in February alone!

Does anyone else know what they want to start with? Only two more days!! :D

message 192: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments Yeah, the 7's are going to be tough! I have a few from my short list. However, I need to read book 6 first for a couple of them >.< I might just have to expand my list :D

message 193: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments I have a plan... I'm going to start with It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover for my #5 card (starts with I) but I won't be able to get very far because I can't listen to audios at work anymore. In the afternoon, I get a Bingo call and I'm hoping that one of my other #5's will work for that shelf and then I can pause CoHo and use it for my D2-reverse/0 in the 2nd hand! Or I might just start with one of these and let the chips fall where they may...

Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher Savage Urges (The Phoenix Pack, #5) by Suzanne Wright Seer of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters #5) by Juliet Marillier The Sinner (Graveyard Queen, #5) by Amanda Stevens

message 195: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 620 comments I might have a couple of options for you :) It's funny because I was browsing everyone's shelves for Reverse cards and I have more than 20 that I can use on yours alone, lol. That was just using my tbr too!

message 196: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Saw your suggestion, thank you :-) I will probably start with that

The rabbit is one of the noblest signs. People with these birth years are considered principled and honorable and often gain the admiration of those around them. They care deeply about family and friends, and their kindness and sympathy for others means they have long and strong relationships. With their honesty and talent for dealing with people, they can often rise to positions of influence. Their good intentions can make them easy targets for people who take advantage of their charity and sympathy, and their gullibility can lead them into trouble.
