Annalisa | 1659 comments I read a lot of classics for school, but once I finished I stopped reading them. I enjoy them when I do listen to them or on the rare occasion read one.

I'm well into Cress and have made a small dent inA Thousand Splendid Suns which we can probably use for Reverse cards. I've also just started The Eyre Affair which I must finish this week for another challenge. Still busily looking for those color covers, too. Might just have a couple! Hope everybody's still having fun!

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I'm currently waaaaaading through The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner . I had hoped it was more riveting but I find myself wanting to push the characters forward. The writing style isn't exactly engaging - to me anyway.

I actually enjoy the 1st book but I didn't like where the story goes in the next one and the last was really weird. I almost always have problem with dystopian books. I love this genre and I usually find their concept interesting but I don't like how they end.

I enjoyed Maze Runner, but I think it was more about the time I read it than the actual book.

I've been feeling a little like I'm wading through my current read too. The Glass Maker's Daughter (The Cassaforte Chronicles, #1) by V. Briceland I thought it would be interesting, but I'm realizing I should probably stay away from books that talk about glass blowing. I find myself annoyed, since I am the daughter of glass makers.

message 1035: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Mmmhh some of the dystopian novels/series definitely have odd endings. The beginnings of those is what I really enjoy. But for this one, I don't know, I'm not feeling it. And it doesn't help that I don't find any of the characters remotely likeable. The idea is great though and I am curious about what is going to happen next (hoping it will pick up a bit) but, yeah. Slow progress so far.

message 1036: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Oooh Annalisa, maybe staying away from those might definitely be an idea then :-/ Not a good portrayal of the skills involved?

Still though, I hope that the book is going to pick up for you!

message 1037: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments It is the skill not represented correctly, but mostly it is the vocabulary. The words used to describe hot glass all strike me as wrong, I don't know any glass workers that use that vocabulary, so I get annoyed. I know it is probably the author trying to make it sound more interesting but it just doesn't work for me.

It got much better as I read it. It was just a slow beginning, and the artistic side seemed to even out and the vocabulary felt less forced later.
