message 122: by Madison ✨ (new)

Madison ✨ | 90 comments Hi Shelby!

I really enjoyed looking through your shelves…you have so many books and so many good reviews. I was surprised that I was able to find ones you don’t have on your shelf! :) Well, hope you enjoy something from this list…happy reading!

1. Best Picture
✱Recommend a book at has at least 528 Reviews or a book set in California.

TBR: Shadow Game by Christine Feehan — Set in San Francisco and a really good start to a series. I’ve only read the first few but so far really good!

NEW: Black Lies by Alessandra Torre — Also set in the Bay Area (my hometown so I tend to gravitate to them). The only comment I have on this one is to not read spoilers…I stumbled upon them towards the start of reading the book and thought, 'oh, how much could it ruin of the story?' the answer: a lot!

2. Best Director
✱Recommend an Historical or Gothic Romance or a book with a set in the United Kingdom.

TBR: The Bride and the Beast by Teresa Medeiros — This one was also picked for me before in this challenge and I really enjoyed it. Has a gothic feel as it’s loosely based on the “Beauty & the Beast” and also based in Scotland.

NEW: Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas — This one might be a bit more chick-lit then you like but I love Kleypas and this is one of my favorites from her. It’s a historical set in the UK and just so good.

3. Lead Actor/Actress
✱Recommend a book where one of the MCs is famous or where the author or MCs names include Katherine, Jack or Meryl’s names OR choose a book that has a character you or others may ‘idolize’.

TBR: Lick by Kylie Scott — A definite fun and favorite book I couldn’t put down. The hero is a famous musician.

NEW: Honey Moon by Susan Elizabeth Phillips — One of my favorite authors and it looks like you read one of her stories before and gave it 5 stars. This one is about a childhood movie star and just so good.

4. Adapted Screenplay
✱Recommend a book that has been made in to a movie or adapted for television or has a square-shaped object of some kind on the cover.

TBR: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes — I cried ugly tears reading this one. I was even on vacation in Morocco and still couldn’t put this story down! When I saw this on your TBR list I had to pick it :) And this ones a movie…haven’t seen it yet but definitely want to!

NEW: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green — I’m sure you’ve heard of this one and if it’s not on your pretty substantial TBR read list then there must be a reason…but I really enjoyed this one (despite all the hype) and it also made me cry ugly tears.

5. Foreign Language
✱Recommend a book that’s set in a Country other than the United States or a book that has been translated in to another language.

TBR: Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter — You seem to really like this author (I do too!) and this was one of my favorite paranormal series. I could not put this down and wish she wrote more in the Angels of the Dark series! I’m going to say this was in another Country b/c it’s angels/demons/Gods so it’s sort of not from this world…that counts, right? ;-)

6. Red Carpet
✱Recommend a book with a red cover or with a MC in ‘formal dress’ on the cover or a book that includes an event that would require ‘formal dress’.

NEW: The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen — I love magical realism so it’s super hard for me not to recommend one. This one I’m loosely saying will fit this category b/c it has a girl in a red dress on the cover :) Still great author and great book.

7. Jimmy Kimmel Hosts
✱Recommend a book that is a 1st in series, a debut for an author, or a Humorous read.

TBR: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh — Such a good first story in a series! I loved the sci-fi premise/world.

NEW: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton — Super cute and super funny.

8. The Razzie Awards (Golden Raspberry Awards)
✱Recommend a book that features a ‘bad-boy hero’ or a book with fruit on the cover, in the title or a raspberry color somewhere on the cover.

TBR: Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning — If you read the first 4 of this series I’m surprised you didn’t pick this up the day it came out like I did…I just HAD to know what came next! :) Barons is a total ‘bad-boy’ (well, more bad-ass in my opinion!) and you never know who's side he's on.

NEW: The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole — This one really hooked me…Trent wasn’t necessarily a “bad boy” but he’s a tattoo artist so maybe that counts :) Still really good…I was a bit disappointed in the second book in this series though.

Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan , Black Lies by Alessandra Torre , The Bride and the Beast (Once Upon a Time, #2) by Teresa Medeiros , Again the Magic (Wallflowers, #0) by Lisa Kleypas , Lick (Stage Dive, #1) by Kylie Scott , Honey Moon by Susan Elizabeth Phillips , Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes , The Fault in Our Stars by John Green , Wicked Nights (Angels of the Dark, #1) by Gena Showalter , The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen , Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh , Wallbanger (Cocktail, #1) by Alice Clayton , Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning , The Strongest Steel (Second Circle Tattoos, #1) by Scarlett Cole

Nicole P | 3200 comments Hey LaurLa! Thanks so much for my suggestions. This is what I've managed to read this month :)

✓ Best Picture
✯TBR: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles ~ has highest # of ratings on your shelf: 195,238! (01/02) ★★★★ Thanks for prompting me to read this! There's a reason why it has so many ratings. I've subsequently gotten the other two books in the series :)

✓ The Razzie Awards
✯ New: Reaper's Property by Joanna Wylde (04/02) ★★★ Definitely everything one can expect from a MC book. Absolutely loved the hero. The heroine on the other hand drove me insane!

✓ Best Director
✯ New: Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (08/02) ★★★★ Strangest romance book ever. I think mainly due to the puppets. But I totally loved the two MCs - found their bantering to be downright cute and sexy.

✓ Jimmy Kimmel Hosts
✯TBR: Inked by Jenika Snow (17/02) ★★ Finally another book to tick off my TBR pile.

Christine | 0 comments Pamela,

Just finished reading The Substitute. Thank you for the recommendation. I gave it 3 stars. I really enjoyed the beginning of them meeting each other.

Now onto the next one. :)

message 143: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mybradybunch6) | 31 comments I finished Reapers Property by Joanna Wylde.

I contained mystery, suspense, sadness, joy. I was disappointed in the ending I was hoping for more. I may need to read the next book to follow Horse & Marie and find out what is going on. I read the introduction and if research is accurate gang bang's may not be to some reader's liking.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars for the realism and the way the author had my emotions rolling for the entire read.
