Anita (anitafajitapitareada) Happy New Year, Suevians!
January's 2017 Reading Challenge is to read a Goodreads Best of 2016 winner: your choice genre

Here's a link to Best Books of 2016. Also, our January graphic novel read happens to be the Best Books of 2016 winner from the Comic category, so two birds with one stone if you're reading graphic novels with us too.

Let us know which category you're reading and how you like it!

Meaghan (immortalraine) | 23 comments I've already read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two and reading Adulthood Is a Myth for the challenge as well as for the monthly read seems a little like cheating (plus it was super short and an easy read lol) so I'll be reading A Court of Mist and Fury as soon as I finish A Court of Thorns and Roses. My best friend has been on my back to read this series for a while now and I promised her I'd read them this month so I'd be ready for the third book in March(?). Probably won't get to Mist and Fury until mid month.. but we'll see.

Jess (jessicaclarence) | 12 comments I've decided to set my sights a little steep, but I think I can tackle them this month! I have three books chosen from multiple categories. I just finished Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City on the 1st, so I won't count that one, though it was excellent. I am still writing an extremely lengthy review for it.

I think my first read will be Adnan's Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial, since I've been on a bit of a true crime kick. I've also always been fascinated by Raubia Chaudry and her role in Adnan's case, so I'm eager to get started.

My two fiction picks are The Female of the Species (which I own in hardcover) and My Best Friend's Exorcism (which I own on my Kindle). The former is right up my alley but the latter is a wild card, so it should be an interesting month.

Anita (anitafajitapitareada) You've both got a lot under your belt! I didn't intend Adulthood Is a Myth to be my read for this challenge, but honestly none of the other winners appeal to me too much. I'm interested in The Underground Railroad, and I could read The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo (but honestly idk how I feel about Amy Schumer right now). So we'll see... If anyone's read any of the winners and would recommend one as a good read, I'd appreciate it!

Meaghan (immortalraine) | 23 comments Ok so I'm about halfway through A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and I'm just going to go ahead and recommend this series. The first book is a Beauty and the Beast retelling (I've been told that after the first book it goes off in it's own direction) and I'm really loving it.

It's YA but it's a more mature YA than most in the genre (I'm told we get into some pretty descriptive sex scenes later on... I'll keep you updated lol). Fayre (like 'fair') is a strong character and the world is beautifully described.

If you think you can get through both books this month I'd highly recommend going for A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas as this month's read. If not I'd just recommend that you put the series on your 'to read' list.

I've got most of the winners on my 'to read' list but can't really recommend any other ones as I obviously haven't read them yet. I do own the Hamiltome ( Hamilton The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda ) but I've only skimmed it (cuz I'm waiting for some time where I can just get lost in it for a day or two) and I think it's really more for the hardcore Hamiltrash and/or Broadway fans, in which case you'd already have read it or have it waiting to be read.

Calvey Read Adulthood Is a Myth - Enjoyed it.

Jess (jessicaclarence) | 12 comments Right under the wire, I finished all of my picks, and I loved all three of then. My Best Friend's Exorcism was especially good...I have a feeling it's going to be re-read around Halloween this year.

Anita (anitafajitapitareada) I loved that book too, I also liked his other one, Horrorstor. Although he drew the stories past their endings imo. He could have ended them both without the epilogue chapters and I would have been happier. But, glad you met your personal goals for the month! Huzzah! (p.s. omg I love your profile pic)
