Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Boneshaker and enjoyed it. I have to add to my series list. I have the next one on hold at my library.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1797 comments I have finished another orphan Monster Hunter Nemesis, though there is supposed to be another one out this year.

message 53: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Yeah! I didn't realize this was opened. I am so excited.

message 54: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I started and finished the Ryder Creed Series. I finished the Gabriel Allon Series again. I was two behind. I finished The Murder Club Series again.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started two more series but do not have the strength nor desire to add them to my huge list. I will, if/when I read the 2nd books, although I did buy the Dread Empire books. It seems that the first 5 books are the Dread Empire and 6 through 8 are also listed as the Last Chronicle of the Dread Empire 1-3. I can't seem to kill anything yet, but I know I will get back to them eventually.

Welcome back to the thread, Jannene. At least you are getting to your orphan books.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am listening to Cherie Priest's 2nd book in her Century series, but it feels like a stand-alone, not a continuation of the 1st story. I think I have to give it more time.

Is that for your all about me challenge? It has your first name. :)

message 58: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL, Jannene - I read the first one for my name. ;o)
I liked the story line enough to try the second one. The time line is set back in the 1860s and forward. In this world of not quite steam punk, but kind of, the Civil War has been going on for 20 years. The Seattle city center has been destroyed and is surrounded by a 20 or 30 foot wall to keep in a noxious gas, supposedly from underground fissures from Mt. Rainier. The gas turns humans into zombies. The gas is collected by crews in dirigibles and processed into some kind of addictive yellow drug, like cocaine. The opening scenes in the 2nd book start in a Confederate hospital and the conditions of the war wounded are just gruesome. The MC in this story is a nurse, and she is currently trying to make her way to Seattle to see her father, who abandoned her when she was little, and who may or may not be dead.

Jannene | 3124 comments I finished the Lorien Legacies. It had seven books.

message 60: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Good for you, Jannene. I still haven't read the last one and I am three behind on the Lost Files.

I just finished listening to the third Cherie Priest book in the Clockwork Century Series. I have two novellas that I am going to read before I move on.

I started Irene Adler Book 1 last night.

message 61: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments It sounds like you are starting more series. The pile just keeps getting bigger, huh?

Kristie | 19370 comments The Lorien Legacies is on my serial killing pile too. What did you think of it?

Jannene | 3124 comments Kristie wrote: "The Lorien Legacies is on my serial killing pile too. What did you think of it?"

I loved the series. I have to admit that I felt the last book lacked something. I was left wanting but I felt it was still a good book just not as great as the others.

message 64: by Cherie (last edited Mar 13, 2017 10:59AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I almost quit after book five of LL. It looks like I am two behind now. I was told book six was better than five, but you say that seven is lacking, Jannene?

Yes, the list just gets longer. The romance waxes and wanes, but the first new one is always so exciting!

Good Night, Mr. Holmes is great, so far. I love the author's humor! Very creative.

message 65: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments Oh good. Too bad the final book wasn't up to par though.

I only read the first one, but enjoyed it enough to preorder the second book, then never got around to reading it. Every time a new book came out I was reminded that I really wanted to get back to the series. I just never did. I do have it on my short list of series to kill off though.

The second book is a lot better than the first one, in my opinion.

The sixth book is really good.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Re Lorien Legacies - Yes, I had heard that the sixth book was really good from Berit.

Jannene - I agree. I thought the second book was better than the first. I like the idea of all of it, but I really cannot figure out where it is going to go. Most of it is a HUGE case of having to disbelieve. I could be happy to never have started. I got sucked in through the Lost Files after I read the first Lorien Legacies book. I could not understand what book was supposed to be next.

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments I just bought a new series, Boundary Crossed, Boundary Lines, & Boundary Born. They were $.99 each, so not a huge investment. It's about as much as Starbucks coffee.

message 69: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Really? What Starbucks do you shop at? Even their house coffee is over $2.00.

message 70: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments 3 books = $3.00.

message 71: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments 3 books for the cost of one coffee is a great deal.

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments My point exactly. Kristie. LOL!

message 73: by Cherie (new)

Yes, I agree that 3 books for $3.00 IS A GOOD DEAL!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I loved the first Irene Adler series book and really would like to jump into the next one, but I have to finish my other current reads before the month runs out.. It is already the middle of March and I have not killed one series yet.

message 75: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments I finally killed off a series! I read Bitterblue for the monthly challenge. I had started it in 2013 and put it aside. I'm so glad I finally read it and completed the trilogy!

Graceling COMPLETED
Graceling
Fire
Bitterblue

message 76: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments That's a double finish then - the book and the series.

message 78: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I read T is for Trespass and that finished the alphabet series for me. I skipped it because I was 8% into it and could not stand the slowness of it. I started it and finished because of the monthly challenge. I still didn't like it at the end!

message 79: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments Thanks, Jannene. That one felt good to check off. One of my GR friends posted on my review, "finally," which I thought was really funny because she knows I read the first two so long ago. lol

message 80: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments Wow, Jannene. Have you read the whole series? That's a long one. I'm not sure I'd be able to stick with one character for that long. I feel like I'd get tired of it or the stories would start to sound the same. How did you find the series?

I have read the whole series. The main character is just so odd that you like her. She has a landlord that is in his 80s and just so adorable. You end up feeling like you are part of their family.

My previous boss told me that I would like the series and I started reading them in 2010, I think. I know that I started this particular book in March 2012 and I just finished it. Anyway, I do love the series. Y is coming out late this year and I will end up reading that one.

message 82: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments That's great, especially if you only had one bomb in the group. I suppose you have to like them in general to read so many in a series! I've considered starting the series, but I don't think I have that kind of commitment. haha

message 83: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments I've killed another series - Legends of Muirwood - 3/3 read

It's kind of funny that the two series I've completed this year weren't high on my radar.

message 84: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yay, Janice! At least you are killing them!

I need to get back to Newsflesh. I really enjoy Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire,

message 89: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I've seen some of your series, Stephen, but not read any of them yet. I have Brilliance in audio and ebook, still waiting for me to get to.

Nice job killing them off!

message 90: by Stephan (new)

Stephan | 69 comments Janice wrote: "I need to get back to Newsflesh. I really enjoy Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire,"

Definitely do so :) However I'd think about leaving out Feedback. It follows a different group of bloggers and therefore it feels like a different story. It takes place in parallel to Feed, the first book, and gives more information on the other candidates and how they are affected by the plot.

message 91: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments Thanks for the heads up. I've read Feed and have Deadline on audiobook waiting patiently in the wings.

message 92: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments You have some good series there, Stephan! Many that I want to read. The only one I have already read is The Silo Trilogy and I agree it's a solid 4 star series. I really enjoyed that one.

I have read Wayward and bought the next two in the trilogy, but haven't gotten to them yet. I also own the Reckoners trilogy, which is a series I really want to get to, as well as Brilliance, The Breach, and maybe The Magicians.

So, it looks like we may have some similar tastes in series, except of course that you're actually reading them. lol

Thanks :) Brilliance was very fun, I stumbled over it, hadn't heard of it before. I had read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch not long before it and then found out Blake Crouch and Markus Sakey seem to be good friends and share ideas for books. So I followed it up with the Wayward Pines Trilogy by Crouch. That was very good too, much better than the TV series.

Stephan | 69 comments Kristie wrote: "...So, it looks like we may have some similar tastes in series, except of course that you're actually reading them. lol "

Yep :) The Reckoners was really great, I finished that too fast... Travis Chase was a bit pulpy and had some issues even though the story is good, which made it lose a star for me, so I'd go for Brilliance and finish off Wayward Pines before that.

message 95: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19370 comments I picked up The Breach after reading Runner by Patrick Lee. I wanted to read more of his work. The Reckoners is definitely top of my list.

Ariane | 947 comments I finished my second series and not the least in my opinion...
I finished A Song of Ice and Fire.
It was epic, gigantic, and brilliant... I can't wait for the new one!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I love reading orphan books to catch up on series killed in the old challenge, but it is soooooo hard to wait for the next book!
I am caught up on the Charles Lenox Mystrey Series again after finishing The Inheritance. I was able to use it for my ice cream flavor question because of the brown cover. Bumped another off that I still need to read though...
