What Are You Reading? - 2017.1
I'm glad you liked it Dem. I bought the kindle book for 99p and whispersynced it fot another 99p! Haven't listened to it yet :-)
Read Saga, Vol. 6. It's the most recent one my library has so I might have to wait a while for volume 7. Also started The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes from the library. Love the library for graphic novels.

I finished the group themed read, The Lost Girls. And I've started The Wonder. We're reading it in the SAI King Recommends group and it will fit my Survey Challenge.
I'm starting Hag-Seed: The Tempest Retold. I've been hearing good things about it, so hopefully I will enjoy it.
I finished Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, a memoir that was good enough. I also finished listening to 20000 Leagues Under the Sea for my undersea task in the 2017 Challenge.I'll start today Behind Her Eyes, which was rated from 1 to 5 stars among my GR friends, so I don't know what to expect. :)
Tomorrow I will start listening to Around the World in Eighty Days. My plan is to listening one chapter in Spanish, and then the same chapter in French. I don't expect to understand too much, but I hope by the end of the book my French improves at least 0.001%
I finished The Good House and realized that it fits one of the tasks in my Survey challenge (bonus).I will start The Devil's Workshop on audiobook tomorrow. So far, it's not designated for any challenge.
Lisa wrote: "I'm starting Hag-Seed: The Tempest Retold. I've been hearing good things about it, so hopefully I will enjoy it."Indeed! Enjoy!
I started The Song of the Stork. It's a Netgalley book and I can also use it for the survey challenge.
Just finished and loved The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America

Started Dark Matter last night. It's very interesting so far. It's hard sci-fi and it's also a good thriller.
I am shelving River God for the time being. I think it's a case of "right book, wrong time". It started out great but now I feel like I am wading through treacle whilst reading it. Back on the TBR pile it goes. I am going to start The Catch Trap which has been on my TBR pile for ages.
Margo wrote: "Started Dark Matter last night. It's very interesting so far. It's hard sci-fi and it's also a good thriller."Have you read his Wayward Pines trilogy? I really like his writing style. This one is on my wishlist. I might have to bump it up now you've said it's hard sci-fi!
No Sarah, I didn't read the trilogy but I might now. Dark Matter has a great premise. I've already recommended to my hubby who likes scifi. I'm enjoying it but now and again I'd like to be able to ask the author "but what about that". Itndoes leave some questions unanswered IMO. Having said that it will probably be a 4* for me.
I finished Hag-Seed: The Tempest Retold. It took me a while to get into it but once I did, I enjoyed it. I gave it 4 stars.
I didn't start The Catch Trap after all. I suddenly remembered I haven't started The Essex Serpent which I was going to reread for this month's challenge. So that is what I am picking up next.
I finished The Devil's Workshop on audiobook yesterday. It restored my interest in the series. I also finished The Wonder in print format. I'm trying to sort out my feelings for this book. Next up is A Better World on audiobook. I'm not really looking forward to reading this book, but it's the next one on my owned audiobooks list. I don't recall that I enjoyed the first book in the series, yet I gave it 4 stars. I'll give it a go anyway.
Also starting today is my monthly challenge read What the Body Remembers. It's another book I'm starting with trepidation. I've already abandoned this one once.
Pleased to hear you enjoyed the third Scotland Yard murder squad Janice. I need to get back to that series too.
Sarah wrote: "Pleased to hear you enjoyed the third Scotland Yard murder squad Janice. The Devil's Workshop started out a bit bland but then it ramped up and I couldn't put it down. So now, I'm raring to finish the last 2 in the series.
I'm listening to On What Grounds for the yearly challenge. So far, it is just ok for me. I'm hoping the mystery gets interesting. I'm also reading Bitterblue, which I originally planned for the yearly challenge, but decided to use for the monthly challenge. It's at the point where I can't wait to see what happens. I'm looking forward to reading a bit more this evening.
I started The Lost Wife, for the group read and yearly challenge. Only 10% in, but it looks to be a good one.
Just finished and enjoyed The Royal Physician's Visit

I finished A Better World and in spite of myself, I enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'll read the final book. I can't deal with the tension. If you like political action thriller/dystopia, then you'll like this series.Next up is The Blight of Muirwood.
I started H is for Hawk yesterday for a buddy read. It's quite good so far.I'm also halfway through The Essex Serpent. I was clearly not in the right mood for it when I first tried to read it last year, because I am loving it this time!
I need a break from The Lost Wife. It's a terrific book but it's hitting me hard and I need something light for in the evening. So I'm also starting Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe
I finished The Likeness which i couldn't put down. 5 stars. I need something slower paced that doesn't have me on the edge of my seat or so engaged in the story that i want to disconnect totally from the real world and immerse myself in it. Also some fluff. And something shortish. So I'm going with Third Grave Dead Ahead. I'll use it for the about me challenge too.
I finished Behind Her Eyes, that was ok. It started being a great psychological thriller and then turned in... something else. I'm starting now Threading My Prayer Rug: One Woman's Journey from Pakistani Muslim to American Muslim. Really looking forward this one!
Well. I think I'm starting to find my limit on the Charley Davidson series. I've read about 5% and she's getting up my nose for some reason. I wanted fluff but this isn't doing it for me. I might have to try something else.
Just started listening to The Way of Kings. 45 hours of Sanderson to make me forget how screwed up this world is.
Sarah wrote: "So, moving swiftly on to God of Vengeance for the about me challenge."I hope you have better luck with this one. This sounds more your taste.
Margo wrote: "Just started listening to The Way of Kings. 45 hours of Sanderson to make me forget how screwed up this world is."45 hours is a commitment! I've got some long ones coming up. Shōgun is 53.5 hours. I keep wondering why I felt I had to buy it.
It is such an awesome book Margo, I think it's my favourite fantasy series. Hope you'll love it too!
Janice wrote: "Sarah wrote: "So, moving swiftly on to God of Vengeance for the about me challenge."I hope you have better luck with this one. This sounds more your taste."
To be fair, I probably should go back to Wizard and Glass but I'm procrastinating over it.
Peggy wrote: "It is such an awesome book Margo, I think it's my favourite fantasy series. Hope you'll love it too!"3 hours in and I'm hooked!
Janice, if Shōgun is as good as it's reputed to be you won't have a problem. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts :-)
I finally finished On What Grounds. It was meh. Too much talk about coffee and certain relationships that bothered me among other things. I was glad when I finished it. I'm planning to start The Night Stalker for the yearly challenge later today.
I needed something fun after dealing with The Historian and while feeling like there razor blades in my throat, so picked up Don't Look Back. I feel like something is a little wrong with me when I class dead bodies as "fun". But hitting the spot.
I completely understand that, Rusalka. But, I guess there could be something a little wrong with me too. lol I think that one looks good and my GR friends have rated it highly.
Kristie wrote: "I completely understand that, Rusalka. But, I guess there could be something a little wrong with me too. lol I think that one looks good and my GR friends have rated it highly."Hah! We can't be wrong if we are in company ;)
I wasn't in the mood for God of Vengeance so i'll go back to it another time. After swimming today, my partner was late picking my up so i waited in the library for him. As you do. I picked up the first book which looked interesting in the sci fi and fantasy section and started reading it. I got hooked and ended up borrowing it. It's Artemis which i had never heard of before. The main character is a librarian and loves books so i think i'll use it for the about me challenge.
I finished The Blight of Muirwood today and immediately started the final book in the trilogy, The Scourge of Muirwood. It's very YA and I doubt I'll read any of the other series set in the same world.
I finished The Essex Serpent for the Bubble and Squeak challenge. This book was proof that I am a mood reader in every sense of the word. I had to abandon it the first time I picked it up, yet it blew me away this time. I gave it 5 stars. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
