Sarah | 18550 comments @kimey - my hypnotherapy lecturer has an audio track for phobias that your husband could try http://www.hypnosisfordownload.com/ph... no idea what it's like but i rate him highly as a therapist so I'm sure it will be great. I'm not sure what's available on YouTube or else where. Ideally it would be best if he could find a therapist near you to see face to face so that it can be tailored to him specifically. Other option we could do a skype session or two. I've not done that before but know many therapists who do.

@margo - good to hear we are of assistance to you:-)

I went to the pub last night and on our way home we saw 5 glow worms. I was so excited as I've never seen them before. Spent this morning dismantling our old sofa bed to get it out of the boat ready for the arrival of our new one tomorrow.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments That's awesome, Sarah. I actually forgot to bring it up to him this weekend. I'll try to remember to talk to him about it tonight. I'm emailing the link you shared to myself so maybe I'll not forget again.

My "date" went really well Friday night. The restaurant choice wasn't the best for conversation as the music was pretty loud, but we still had a good time. He and his girlfriend have broken up and she's already engaged to someone else. He's a little heartbroken and needed a friend. I'm honored that he would talk to me about everything. I'm seriously considering trying to hook him and the mother of my best friend up. I think they would get along really well (I've actually thought about this before now too), but she's a tall woman and only dates men taller than her and I'm not sure he fits that criteria. Being a shorter person, I don't understand this stipulation, but I know several tall women with that same mentality.

message 2603: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19329 comments Kimey - I think being a taller woman, it takes a certain level of confidence to date a man that is shorter than you. It is a bit nontraditional for the woman to be taller than the man and it can be really uncomfortable for some people at times. Somehow, height seems to be associated with masculinity.

However, I think if the right man comes along it ends up not mattering so much. The right man, of course, would also have to be ok with his girlfriend, wife, etc being taller than he is, which also takes confidence. But, in the bigger picture, it is such a small thing.

My husband is taller than me, but only by an inch. If I wear heals, I'm still taller than him. It used to bother me a bit, but not so much now and it doesn't bother him at all.

message 2604: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19329 comments I'm glad your date went well and he was able to talk with you about his relationships. It's probably a relief for him to chat about it.

message 2605: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I get it to an extent. But I try very hard not to judge people based on looks and that is exactly what they are doing. The most beautiful, perfect-in-your-eyes person can turn out to look like a bag of crap once you get to know them. And that homely, nothing special person could turn out to be the person of your dreams if you'd only give them a chance.

Its selling yourself short (pun not intended) if you automatically rule out potential dates based solely on their height. Or eye color, skin color, taste in clothes, car they drive, job they have, etc.

message 2606: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19329 comments I complete agree, Kimey. I think it's often a self esteem issue more than anything, but you could definitely miss out on someone special by setting up those types of barriers.

message 2612: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Our new sofa bed arrived and we were able to get it in the boat and assemble it in not too long. Slightly different colour to than what we expected (we ordered aubergine but it's more purple) but we love it and it's really comfortable.

I keep meaning to say that I saw some glow worms at the weekend. 5 of them! I've never seen them before. I think they are pretty rare here so pretty chuffed to have seen them.

Glad your new sofa bed is comfy, Sarah. It sounds a really nice colour.

That's cool about the glow worms. I have never seen any, apart from on tv.

Sarah | 18550 comments Here is a picture of them (not one i took - mine just look like a lot of darkness and an led shining).

message 2619: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19329 comments That is so cool, though a bit creepier looking than I expected. I think I was expecting a bit of a smoother body without the head and legs...more wormlike.

message 2620: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes it's not very worm-like at all other than perhaps it being segmented in appearance.

Do you want me to nab a few and keep them in a jar a la Pitch Black for when you're in the UK? ;-) (just to clarify, i wouldn't actually do that to the little critters)

message 2625: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments So cool to see the glow worms. I too expected something without the creepy head and arms. Not worm-like at all. They look like a cross between a lightening bug and a beetle of some sort.

@Travis, you don't use a bookmark?! I would go crazy trying to find my page. If I don't have a real bookmark, I'll improvise with a slip of paper, receipt, pen (with the cap on), whatever I can find. Or, if it is my personal book and a paperback, I'll even dog-ear the page.

message 2627: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19329 comments I was happier than I should be to see a Pitch Black reference thrown in there!

I'm with Kimey. I grab almost any paper available if I don't have an actual book mark. The other day I used a "fortune" from a fortune cookie.

message 2630: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So I set the background on my phone a picture of my wife on a mountain top. Been a week no. I still hide my phone every time I check it if ppl are around because I keep thinking it's some sexy woman pic. I mean it is it's my wife. Dressed for hiking but there's a darkness to the pic probably taken about Dawn that gives it a certain mystery nd makes it look at first glance like a nudie pic or something.

message 2631: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments LOL. You need to tell your wife that! I know that would make me feel beautiful and loved!
But also question why you would think there would be a dirty pic on your phone that you might need to hide. I wouldn't actually question that on my husband because it wouldn't surprise me, but I don't know you and your wife.

I looked up "glow worms in UK" on my iPod browser and found the site above - I hope it works. The video, by two young boys was very good and informative. There is a survey for glow worm sightings in the UK, Sarah.

I got to see lightning bugs again when I was on vacation in Tennessee last month.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Unfortunately I'm joining in Margo's club. Man what a sucky club. My uncle was told he has cancer today. I'm not even sure what o think bone cancer. How bad is it etc. To all the questions don't even know. What a crappy day it turned into. See where this all goes but all I know is I usually see lights out at 9pm on work nights and they didn't go out until 1130 tonight. Is there ever a person prepared to be told they have cancer. I doubt it

message 2635: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I wasn't supposed to tell anyone but figured this was a safe place. Oh my uncle who lives close enough I know when the lights go out. Well my neighbors to the north, east and west of me are all my uncle's. At best it's narrowed to 3 ha ha

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I also have a cousin who's been in a coma for a week now. No one is telling the whole story but the rumor is after his wife left him he moved in with prostitutes and got into drugs. His boss said they were never sure if his arms always had bug bites or needle marks. Anyway unless someone says no this is a medical condition. I find myself unable to give any sympathy. His siblings his mother yeah they didn't ask for this but him no he chose to stick those needles in his arm. If that is the truth. And no one has tried to deny that drugs put him there and there was drugs and alcohol in his system when he went in er. My hope is that if it comes out it wasn't self inflicted drug abuse and was completely a natural medical emergency type of thing is that I will then give a damn. I'd like to think I have the ability to turn compassion on and off

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Sorry to hear about your uncle and couisin, Travis. Definitely a club no one wants to be a member of!

I can relate to your feelings about the cousin. One of my oldest sisters (50-ish) has a drug problem. She's been to jail several times and always gets bailed out then a slap on the wrist when it goes before a judge. She was in the hospital recently with sepsis, which can be deadly. After I found out she wasn't on her death bed, I didn't feel much sympathy for her. She doesn't take care of herself, mooches off of whoever hasn't gotten fed up with her yet, and still hangs out with her druggy friends so I'm assuming she is still using too. I feel like did it to herself so I didn't feel too bad for her.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments My morning didn't start off too great today. I was peeling a cantaloupe to bring to work with me and sliced my pinky finger. I managed to get it wrapped up and went to one of the urgent care clinics in the city where I work at (about an hour away). They glued it instead of stitches and said it should heal up fine. I probably could have skipped the doctor, but I was sort of panicked because of it being such a big section (relatively speaking) and because it just kept bleeding.

Oh Travis, that really sucks. I can't think of much worse news a person can get.

My uncle is having his surgery tomorrow and it's very dodgy as he has a bad heart. They are worried about putting him under for so long, 10 hour op, but unless they take out the tumor he has no chance. After the op it will still be an unhill battle. Tomorrow will be a very long day :(

Ouch, Kimey! I think it was the right decision to go the doctor if it kept bleeding. I hope it heals up quickly!

I did something quite similar myself today. I was screwing up a device after putting some new batteries in and got the skin on the underside of my middle finger trapped in it and gouged a small chunk out of it. It bled quite badly, but I managed to put a plaster on which had some antiseptic cream on it and it stopped bleeding fairly quickly after that.
