Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Tights are thick and opaque, and sometimes woolen. Pantyhose is thin and sheer, and usually I wear it when I need to pretend my legs aren't a ghastly shade of white.

Also, good luck Peggy! I'm sure you will go brilliantly.

And nail polish around the hole stops it running. So if it's under your skirt, that's a good fix to stop ladders. Don't do it if it's not, nor if the nail polish isn't clear. We used to do this at school when our black tights got holes, but that was when blue/purple/green nail polish was in fashion so you would have bright blue spots on your tights and legs.

There we go...

message 1503: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments Good luck, Peggy! I'm sure you'll do great!

Yes, here we call the thin sheer type pantyhose or nylons. The thicker type, sometimes knitted, are called tights. Underpants for women are called panties.

I've used Rusalka's trick of nail polish for runs (ladders?) before and it works. Hairspray will work as well, but I think the polish is better.

message 1504: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's a black pantyhose then. Thin, but you can hide white legs in them.

Thanks for the tip travis, that makes a lot of sense. I did that too before I went in, some powertalks to tell myself how awesome I am ;-) same thing is powerposing, also helps to perform better and boost your self esteem.

I thought it went pretty well, it was a very nice meeting. I can think of two valid reasons why they would pick someone else over me though. They will make a decision this afternoon.

message 1505: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Nah, underpants are called undies. Sometimes knickers.

message 1506: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments So glad it went well. You may think of reasons, but you don't know who applied and how they went in the interview. Here's hoping it's good news very soon!

message 1507: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments Glad your interview was so close to decision time! Less time for you to have to wait. Plus, you'll be fresh in their minds.

Lilisa | 2770 comments Glad your interview went well, Peggy. I cracked up laughing when I read your first comment on the "hole" dilemma which spurred lively conversation! Has anyone read or watched Amy Cuddy's stuff - great tips on prepping for meetings, tough conversations or just plain interesting. Link here:

That could be what we call pantyhose.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Peggy, glad to hear the interview went well. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

@Sarah, what a great idea about the canoeing and cycling combo. That will be a great workout for you both. I can't wait for the weather to get and stay nice enough for canoeing. It shouldn't be long. It is supposed to frost tonight and I'm hoping that is the last time for the season.

I'm happy to report that I did get a workout in last night! My little dogs thought I was trying to play with them so they kept jumping and barking at me, but I managed to get the full workout in despite their "help."

But I didn't get the job unfortunately :(

I have just heard about that too. Very sad! They seem to be the attack of choice lately. I guess it's because it's far harder for security forces/organisations to track lone attackers than it is for them to track large scale plots.

message 1518: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments So sorry to hear that, Peggy! They are missing out on a good opportunity there.

I didn't hear about the attack in Stockholm yet. I'm dreading reading about it. That's just awful.

message 1519: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Apparently there was also a shooting incident in a location about 20 minutes away from where the truck attack took place.

message 1520: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Kristie!

I think so too Lisa. And it seems a quite simple attack to execute.

message 1521: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I know it's frustrating for sure Peggy but look at the bright side. You still have a job. A lot of people get frustrated and quit their current job then look for the next one. That's when it gets really hard to take.

message 1522: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I can't remember exactly but it seems these truck attacks always are part of a decoy for a shooting elsewhere lately as well

message 1523: by KimeyDiann (last edited Apr 07, 2017 09:35AM) (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Keep your chin up, Peggy, you'll find the right fit!

I haven't heard about that attack. I've been reading about the US attack on Syria. It scares me that they bombed a military base, even if it is where the chemical attack originated from recently. It would take so little to spark off another world war, especially with tensions so high across the world right now in general.

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments Peggy wrote: "Yes, thights I think :)"

I never understood the difference between tights and pantyhose! Are they only pantyhose if they are sheer and skin toned? Tights are different colors, patterns etc?

message 1525: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I agree Kimey, it's scary.

I know what I would call them all in Dutch, but have no idea about the exact words in English, let alone all the differences between uk, us, australia and canada.

message 1526: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments The world is a scary place at the moment. What terrifies me the most is that cars and trucks are now being used as wepons. Everybody owns one! There is no defence against them.

message 1527: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's a shame Peggy.

I hadn't heard about the Sweden attack. Just googled it. One of the injured from the London attack the other day died today. I didn't know about the attack on Syria either. That's boat life for you. Off to find out more about that too now.

message 1528: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Boat life sounds like bliss Sarah. I just can't help checking the news almost compulsively througout the day.

I remember when we were on Cuba there simply was no internet. It was weird the first few days, like I was missing out on so many things, but then it was just wonderful. The world coud come crashing down and we would not know anything of it, just being happy and relaxed in our Cuba-bubble.

I try to do that on all holidays now, switch off the internet completely but I can't stick to it with long holidays. I still do a quick check in the evening. Lots less than at home though.

I also have said to myself several times to turn off the internet completely after 8pm or so, but I can't do it. Or to not look at my phone when waiting in line or on the train but instead to look around, but I fail that too. I need to try harder, I don't like feeling that I have to be online and keep up all the time.

message 1531: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments I'm hardly ever completely unplugged, Peggy. Even on vacation, I still check certain pages (ahem, Goodreads...). I am going away to a summer camp for adults in June. It is just like summer camp for kids with activities such as archery and arts & crafts. It is an unplugged weekend. They even offer to hold on to your phone for you, if you are a person that struggles with not checking it. I am looking forward to it. It is going to be so fun!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Laura wrote: "I never understood the difference between tights and pantyhose! Are they only pantyhose if they are sheer and skin toned? Tights are different colors, patter..."

I think of it as thickness. You can get black or other coloured or patterned pantyhose but it's the see-throughness that makes it hose I think.

Tights are thick and not see through. But again, what is common in Aus isn't everywhere.

Kristie | 19326 comments That's how I think of it too, Rusalka.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm training my kids and they don't even know. I started going in waking them up pull covers off them then do a 5 count. They'll either get up or I'll lift them out of bed. Usually they get up. They're pretty good at getting up anyway. So I figured teach it to them doing something they do well so it gets trained to them.

message 1543: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Kids constantly plug the toilet. I bought a new plunger today. It seems so wrong that I'm just dying waiting for someone to plug it so I can test that bad boy out. Lol

message 1544: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments My daughter was tired of trying to un-clog the toilet and finally hired a professional plumber in to see what was wrong. Several match box cars later, he finally decided to remove the toilet and give the pipe a good clean-out.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Why don't you plug it yourself Travis? ;-)

Today it's exactly 10 years ago that my boyfriend and I got on a plane for a 1-year trip around (half) the world. I feel a bit nostalgic. It was such a great year! And it made me realize how much has changed.. we had to call home from phone booths with a card and there were no smart phones yet. When we wanted to use the internet we had to find an internet cafe and be very very very patient to upload 3 pictures to our website. And we had to use cd's to make back-ups of our photos! Makes me wonder if the technological things we're used to now will also sound very old-fashioned in 10 years.

I think they will be old-fashioned in 10 years, Peggy. Technology advances so quickly these days that 1 year seems like an eternity.
