jaxnsmom | 8341 comments OK, I don't watch The Bachelor, but this parody by a Santa Fe animal shelter is totally worth watching!

HaHaHa, that was cute.

What does NONPLUSSED mean to you?

Today I was going to use the word in the What's Eating Gilbert Grape discussion but it turns out it has opposite meanings in the U.S. and Eng. crazy.

message 853: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Joan - I think of it as unfazed, but it looks like it could also mean the opposite in American English. I found this which leaves me nonplussed (or not):

nonplussed:
Common to both England and America = bewildered, unsure how to respond
American = unfazed

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The first thing that came to me was unfazed, Joan.

message 855: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just heard that my colleague's daughter, who had neuroblastoma, passed away this morning. She was only 10 years old. She was diagnosed three years ago but treatments were never really successful. A few weeks ago they found that the cancer had spread to all through her body.

I feel so sad right now. I'm almost crying behind my desk. The world sucks sometimes.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well sorry to hear that Peggy

I hate to break up all this bad news but I just got tickets to go see metallica in may along with avenged sevenfold and Volbeat. It was tense. First said something messed up so I tried again. Now I own 4 tickets and have to resell 2 of them. But I have them. So pumped.

message 867: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone :)

That's awesome Travis! I'm sure you'll have no problems selling those two extra tickets.

I'm off on a holiday tomorrow! But I don't have a holiday feeling at all and still need to pack all my stuff. First-world problems...

message 868: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Nice one Travis!

I'm sure you'll feel better once you're packed and are on your way to the airport Peggy. Have a great time!

I'm off out tonight with my partner for a meal, his treat, i which I'm really looking forward to. Then tomorrow I'm catching a train to my parents for a family photoshoot. I bought it as a present for my mum for Christmas. I'm not looking forward to it. I thought we'd have a nice casual photo but no. Mum mum wants us all to dress up. Hmm. Then I'm trying on bridesmaid dresses for my cousin's wedding then my dad and I are going on an owl experience. So i have a pretty full on weekend. I'm never this busy!

message 869: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I hope you enjoy your holiday, Peggy. That holiday feeling will hit you when you're on your way.

Often before I travel, I'll dream that I'm not packed and we're leaving for the airport. Nothing like processing the anxiety into your dreams.

message 870: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Grats Travis! Hope you enjoy. You'll be able to find someone for the other tickets no worries.

Enjoy your holiday Peggy. And who packs early? The correct time to do it is an hour before needing to be at the airport :P Look forward to hearing about it all, it's a part of the world that I probably will never get to, and sounds fascinating!

Sarah | 18550 comments Went on the owl experience at the weekend with my dad which was fantastic. It was a really amazing experience and those birds are magnificent. I think I'm going to go back and take my partner as he would love it. I was impressed by the amount of different owls they had that we could hold. Learnt lots of interesting stuff although I did miss some of the info as I was too busy paying attention to the owls I was holding or taking pictures of my dad holding. Another visit would allow me to pick up on info I might have missed. Any old excuse, aye! All in all, I had a fab weekend. The photoshoot with my family was a lot more fun than I expected it to be. My bridesmaid dress fitted perfectly too. Today seems a bit boring in comparison!

message 877: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Sounds like a wonderful weekend, Sarah. The owl place sounds like an interesting visit and you have to love it when things work out better than planned. No alterations needed. Excellent!

message 879: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments That is awesome, Travis! I have some friends that are going to see them when they come to Atlanta. I'm so jealous.

It sounds like you had a great weekend, Sarah! The owls sound amazing, I would love to do something like that.

My weekend was spent in South Georgia with my husband at a drag race. It wasn't my preferred way to spend my birthday weekend, but as long as I got to spend it with my hunny I didn't really care where we were.

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments I saw a woman walking down the street this morning and reading a book. It looked like she was almost finished and I wondered if it was too good to put down and just had to finish it.

message 893: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11297 comments I bet it was, Janice. :D

message 894: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments You didn't catch the title, did you? Those are the kinds of books I love, that you just can't stand to put it down.

I'm listening to Dawn by Octavia E. Butler and had a moment like that this morning. I pulled up to my office and didn't want to get out of the car. I've only ever read a handful of sci-fi books so I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I'm enjoying this one.

Were they taking part in a toppler?

message 896: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Can you imagine walking down the street reading a book and a crazy woman comes flying out of the adjacent apartment and demands, "What are you reading? Care to join our toppler, that is if you aren't already in a read-a-thon?"

message 897: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Haha. I'm that weirdo that's always trying to *casually* see what someone is reading. lol I haven't verbally or otherwise assaulted anyone to find out yet.

... I may have slightly tipsy on the Tube in London. Much more liberating when you're in a massive city not in your own country. The girl was reading The Complete Maus

I have a friend who reads comic books constantly while walking to work through Seattle. I still don't know how he hasn't gotten killed doing it.

message 900: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19323 comments Rusalka- I'd never heard of that one. It looks interesting. Also, if I tried to read and walk, I'd either get nowhere in the book or break an ankle at the least.
