Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton

Review:
This was amazing! If you haven't read this series, you should! The story is set in the world where humans, vampires and other night creatures live all together. Someone is murdering vampires and the main character is investigating it. From the first page it kept me on edge thill the last page and now I just want to buy rest of the series, lock myself in my bedroom and just read :D Last time I got so excited about a series was the Sookie Stackhouse series, but the main character in here is more like vampire slayer. Anyway its a great book and I'll go now to Amazon to see if I can find the next book :)

Kaity | 743 comments Glad you enjoyed your book, Laura! :D I've never read anything by Laurell K. Hamilton. I've heard so many contradictory things about her books but I still want to give her a try myself eventually.

Kaity | 743 comments Just a head up - My laptop needs to be sent back to the manufacturer to be repaired and their estimate is 10-25 day...plus shipping time. I died inside when they told me. :P Anyway, I purchased a little chromebook to get me through that time so there shouldn't be any changes in my reading/ability to post here. Just wanted to let you all know though especially since I've been a slow reader this past week and a half while backing everything up and making sure I had my passwords etc.

sorry for being AWOL for a week ladies. I've had a crazy busy week. I had absolutely no time to read or even check Goodreads! *whispers* Oh the horror of not reading anything for a week!

Anyway, I finished reading Sweep in Peace but I'm too wiped out to review now, so I'll post the review later. For Mythology, I'll read Death and Relaxation (Ordinary Magic, #1) by Devon Monk .

Kathleen, have you chosen a book for this shelf. I couldn't find your post anywhere. Please let me know if you've chosen and I've missed somehow.

I can't believe more than halfway through the book Rhage (view spoiler) But that's a hot button issue for me that I hate no matter what. Shelf #5: Vampires
Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles, #2) by Ilona Andrews
Book: Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews
Date Completed: Feb 26
Rating: 5 stars
REVIEW:

Sometimes, I happen to read a book I'm exactly in the mood for. When that happens, yaay! This was one such book. I read this book when I was exactly in the mood for it.

Likes:
+ The world-building. I loved reading about Dina, her mysterious innkeeper powers and how she uses them to effect peace between factions hell-bent on war, and she is the only one who can do that!

+ Gertrude Hunt's new cook, Orro, the hysterical hedgehog-like quilled ex-Red Cleaver chef. His declarations and dramatic pronouncements are delightful. I can't wait to read more about him in the next books.

+ We get a new pet. Along with Beast the dog, we now have an as of yet unnamed cat. Nice.

+ I was surprised to find that this book contained George, Jack, Lark, and Gaston from Ilona Andrews's Edge series. Though I have to say, Jack was mostly in the background. It was the other three mostly present. They had an active part in this book, which was great. There was even a mention of Declan and Rose from On the Edge.

I can't wait to read the next book - One Fell Sweep. I'm so glad the book is published already and I already have a copy waiting on my Kindle!

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 206 comments Finished Eona The Last Dragoneye (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman by Alison Goodman
Shelf: Mythology
Pages: 637
Date read: March 7, 2017
Rating: 4*

Thoughts:
Truly action packed. It doesn't let down for even a page as compared to the first book where there where moments the characters were permitted to chill for a bit.

I thought the discovery regarding the truth behind the dragons was a good twist. It was a good series, overall. What I didn't like was the MC herself, Eona. I wasn't a fan of all the choices she has been making even from the 1st book. I guess it was the author's way of showing how truly conflicted she was. I still think she bordered on being almost on the dark side. Let's not get into her feelings for Kygo anymore as that would only mean disaster for Eona. Yup, not a fan as I said. Even though I didn't like her, the book was still good. Dragons, need I say more?

I think I'm getting too old for YA books, because this was so boring. There wasn't much happening through out the book. It tried to be a great love story, but I have read something similar which was for adults ;) and it was way better. This is YA version of the Hades and Persephone story. The original Persephone is long gone and there is time for the new one. Its a series and I wonder what the next book is all about, because I can't really imagine the story continuing....

Or maybe the book just wasn't well written enough to convince you that it was a good story ;) A lot of YAs coming out these days are recycling the same old plot dressed up in a different package.

Have you tried a Melina Marchetta book?
For a fantasy series, I highly recommend The Queen's Thief series. Here's book 1 The Thief

Shelf #5: Mythology
Death and Relaxation (Ordinary Magic, #1) by Devon Monk
Book:Death and Relaxation by Devon Monk
Date Completed: March 04
Rating: 2 stars
REVIEW:

Seriously disappointed. I can't believe this is Devon monk's book.

Likes
+ The Setting. The story is set in Ordinary, Oregon. Ordinary is where gods, deities and other creatures go for vacationing. Their idea of a vacation is to be a mortal for a short time and work in a completely different profession. There are vacationing gods- Zeus, Hera, Raven, Thor, Odin, Friggs, Ganesha who recently left etc. There are creatures such as gill-man, vampires, werewolves, a valkyrie and so on. The story is set in this background I absolutely loved this idea!
+ Cover. I like the cover a lot.

Dislikes
- Delaney. My main problem is with the MC Delaney. Delaney feels too much like a TSTL heroine to me. Delaney is the chief of police for Ordinary and she,
->doesn't lock the doors. Even though people have just entered her home, the station whatever and scared her a lot- her ex-boyfriend Cooper, her maybe-potential-boyfriend-Ryder, and the murderer. Yes, that's right. All these people simple enter her home without invitation just because Delaney is dumb enough to not lock her door. And she keeps on repeating it. What happened to learning from mistakes?

->is the ultimate horror movie actress. you know, the one who runs out the door especially when there's a monster out there waiting to devour her. In this case, Jean the early disaster warning system and Delaney's sister warns her that she has a very bad feeling and asks her not to go out. And what does Delaney do? Of course she goes out. And (view spoiler) Of course. Why didn't you listen to you sister in the first place?

->doesn't keep her words. Every single time. She is supposed to be the chief of police. What use is this if she doesn't keep her words? For example, she promises Myra her other sister that she will be in the hospital when Myra returns. And then she checks out of the hospital soon after without waiting for Myra to return. She promises Myra that she would call before coming to work and just comes to work without calling her. This irks me to no end!

->is the temporary bridge for god-power. Whenever a god dies in mortal form while in Ordinary, Delaney acts as a conduit for that power. She has one week to pass that power on to another mortal or else things (meaning the town of Ordinary) will go boom. When this situation arises, what does she do? Nothing for the first four days. Sh just keeps on thinking and telling how she only has one week left. but she DOES NOTHING.

Because she is busy in other things. Which brings me to my next dislike.

-> Instead of working on the many different things she has on her plate, Delaney gets distracted often by Ryder. She wastes time she should be working by mooning over Ryder instead. You know, I'm all for romance provided it doesn't detract the MC from what she is supposed to be doing.

-> is totally clueless. It's one thing to be a clueless person in real life. It is a separate thing to read about a clueless character in books. Especially when said cluelessness makes the MC a dumb person.

For example, Ryder seems too keen to file in the record room. He seems disappointed when he does not get a chance to do so initially. Instead of finding this suspicious, our Delaney wonders if he might have a filing-fetish! Really????

I also guessed the murderer about one-third of the way into the book. This person was the first (or may be second) person I would have enquired into considering the circumstances if I were a cop. Not Delaney. She doesn't realize it until the last moment. Because, you know, clueless and dumb.

I DID NOT LIKE THIS BOOK. AT ALL.

The first book probably wont seem like anything special. I was pretty confused because the series is so well loved and even had a TV show. It's not terrible, but the first book is very average. Definitely glad I kept reading because Summer Knight was awesome! :D
