This book was very interesting. In the future, Earth is dying and humanity spends most of their time in a virtual reality game. Then the creator of the virtual game dies and leaves a billion dollar contest within the virtual reality game set up around the 1980s. Lots of old movies, books and video games referenced. I understood some of them, some not so much. However, I got very interested in the main characters and was rooting for them as they fought against the big corporations. I got completely sucked into this world. Finishing this book was like coming up for air after a long deep dive. So why not 5 stars? There was a lot of info dumping done to explain the world and how it and the virtual game worked. Sometimes, it pulled me away from the enjoyment and felt like a history lesson.

Looks like we need 5 more. Some teams only need 3. Hopefully the next few calls will be lucky for us.

We need angels, science fiction, available at library, kickass hero and magic. The closest team needs science fiction, magic and series finished. Unfortunately 2 shelves work for the both of us.

Book: Feral Sins- Suzanne Wright
Shelf: Snarky Heroine
How it fits: on page 1 of the shelf
Date read: 3/15/17

This was the first book in the Phoenix Pack series. Taryn is a shapeshifter who has never shifted. Trey is the Alpha of the Phoenix pack. Taryn's dad is trying to force her into a political marriage. Trey's pack is under attack from his uncle. Trey comes up with an idea to help his pack. That idea depends on Taryn. Taryn has a smart mouth and can't seem to help herself from saying sarcastic things, and yet that is the very thing about her that Trey appreciates most. It was interesting to see how their relationship developed and how Trey's pack came to trust her. I enjoyed this book and will continue the series.

Katie Week 9: Kickass Hero
Heart of Fire

Linda Howard is so hit or miss for me. This one was more of a miss, sadly. It had a lot of potential, but just read as an older, overly dramatic romance.

Natalie | 549 comments Week 8: Snarky + Snarky Heroine
Book: Magic Rises
Date Read: 3/18
Rating: 5/5

Review:
One frustrating thing about this series, is I enjoy it so much and I don't want to finish it too quickly. So I keep putting off reading the next one and then I devour it and adore it, but I don't want to start the next one but at the same time I do.

In this book, Curran is asked to help mediate between three European shapeshifter packs over a complicated pregnancy to be paid for his troubles in a rare medicine that is crucial to shapeshifter survival.

Along with him comes his consort, Kate, and a group of trusted fighters and friends. They know there is more to the trip than it appears, but they are not prepared for their host and a new type of shifters.

Overall this book was a rollercoaster ride with many highs, lows, and twists. I could have done without the relationship drama(view spoiler), but I really like how it was handled in the end.

(view spoiler)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I agree completely with your first paragraph!

You have three wonderful books to look forward to. :)

Natalie | 549 comments Week 9: Kickass Hero
Book: Prince's Gambit (Captive Prince, #2) by C.S. Pacat
Date Read: 3/18
Rating: 4/5

Review:

In the first book, Damianos, the heir of Akielos found himself overthrown by his bastard half brother, announced dead, and sent to their rival kingdom as a slave to their heir, Laurent.

Now they are heading to the border, with the knowledge that Laurent's uncle, the regent until he has his next birthday, is plotting against him.

Overall this was a fun book, though I felt it was a bit slow at times. Also it felt like most of the book was leading up to the last page. I'm excited for the last book and see what the reaction is. I have a feeling it won't be pretty.

Also short stories :) Magic Steals is up next.

But I don't want to catch up.

But I do.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I know, I understand. I am desperately Robert Galbraith waiting for (really J.K. Rowling) to release her next in the Cormoran Strike series The Silkworm, the fourth was due in 2016 and she only just released the title for the fourth via twitter last week. I have been re-reading by listening. I am going crazy.

Loving Easy - I enjoyed reading it the first time and it is better by audio the 2nd time around.

message 328: by Sam (new)

I greatly enjoyed this book. Mercy gets kidnapped and Adam has to go find her. The last time Mercy went missing, we heard about how Adam responded, but we didn't get to see it while it was happening. This time, we got Adam's point of view as well as Mercy's. To me, that greatly enriched the story. I also found it fun that we find out that (view spoiler) had a role to play in the events. Mercy continues to learn more about her powers. I look forward to the next book.

Week: 9
Book: Easy by Tammara Webber

Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1) by Tammara Webber

This was a re-read by audio for me. Funny, I first read Easy for round 6 of Bingo! LOL. This book was even better for me the second time. The audio is done decently, not the best -- but decently.

I just love the romance of Lucas and Jacqueline. The slow development, the humor and the characters -- they are so well done. I also really appreciate the positive female friendships and the anti-rape message. I have never read further in this series, I am afraid the sequels will ruin my good vibe. I just love this story.

Hell Divers (Hell Divers #1) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

This was an interesting listen/read. There were themes that I found similar to other post-apoc/dystopia novels and tv shows -- nuclear war, earth destroyed and inhabitable for hundreds of years, survivors in air crafts, air craft is dying, needs more supplies, and there is a horrible hierarchy/caste system among the survivors.

This was a fast read, the audio was decent. What made this book interesting and I *may* read/listen to the next book are the characters, their interactions with each other and their development. I would recommend this book to people if they enjoy survivalist post-apoc books.
