Good Job!! :D

Book: Crocodile on the Sandbank
Date Read: 5/19
Rating: 3.5/5
This was a fun book about a spinster who inherits her father's fortune and decides to go Egypt. She picks up a traveling companion (the first one didn't suit) and ends up at an archaeological dig where mysterious events start to occur. Overall a fun book that I enjoyed. I would read another, but it's not a priority.

Book: Visions of Heat- Nalini Singh
Shelf: shifters
How it fits: on page 1 of the shelf

Faith is a foreseer Psy, meaning she can see the future. However, due to her training, she only sees business deals to improve clan's finances. When she suddenly begins seeing through the eyes of a killer, she doesn't know what to do. She decides to seek advice from the only Psy she knows who isn't within the PsyNet. While trying to find Sascha, she meets Vaughn, a jaguar changeling. Seeing Faith find the courage to change her life and Vaughn's devotion to her was touching. I enjoyed watching these two find each other. I enjoy the world that Singh has built and I look forward to continuing this series.

Book: Night Shift
Date Read: 5/23
Rating: 3.5/5
Night Shift is an anthology of four stories.
Secrets at Midnight by Nalini Singh
I've only read up to the first two books in this series and this is labelled as #12.5, but I didn't feel out of place. Bastian has caught the scent of his mate, but he keeps losing her which is unheard of. Finally he runs into the seemingly human Kirby. It was a cute story, but novellas always have the issue of building a relationship with less pages and there wasn't really much of a plot. 3/5
Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews
Yes! Jim and Dali! I love the two of them so much. They are in a relationship at this point, but haven't seen each other lately due to Jim taking over for Curran while he and the rest of the group are in Europe (Magic Rises). Dali ends up helping a family friend whose office complex is being cursed and Jim tags along to help. This story was fun to read and helped develop their relationship ending with (view spoiler) My main negative is I would like a bit of Jim's POV and Dali is just so hard on herself at time. 4/5
Lucky Charms by Lisa Shearin
A prequel to her SPI series (The Grendel Affair). I enjoyed it, but I do think it's a bit similar to one of my favorite series, at least to start.
All that being said, I did enjoy this. Mac just started working for Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI) as their seer after the other one died in an "accident". It was a fun short story of tracking down a leprechaun bachelor party that slipped their bodyguards. I'll probably continue the series at some point. 4/5
The Beast of Blackmoor by Milla Vane
This is actually the pen name of Meljean Brook whose The Iron Duke has been on my TBR for a while. I didn't love this story. For one thing, it doesn't fit with the previous three as it is high fantasy. A warrior princess is tasked with taming a beast for her people, but finds the beast is a bit different than she expected. Overall I just couldn't get into it as I did with the previous two. I do still plan to read The Iron Duke and I read the description for forthcoming book in this world that may be interesting. 2.5/5

But for bingo I had to read and review all four :P

I'd forgotten that Milla Vane was Meljean Brook, or maybe I wiped that from my brain. I enjoyed The Iron Duke it is much better than The Beast.

This appears to only be a winning shelf for Team 5 and they are behind five shelves (including this week) so depending on how fast they get caught up, this game may keep going.
Granted fae does not help us. At all.

Hotter After Midnight
5/25/17
3 stars
I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. I'd read some shorts by this author, but they were never really great. It was a bit boring at times, but I was taken with a couple secondary characters (one of which gets his book later), so I think I have to continue the series. :)

I will be reading the next in the October Day series. Need to check which one that is.

Book: A Local Habitation
Date Read: 5/26
Rating: 3.5/5
Overall an improvement over the first book. It was good to see October back with her PI license and at least not as depressed as she was in the first book. Though we didn't get any development with her family and I hope that does happen in future books.
In this one, she goes to check on her lord's niece who has not been in contact lately. January is working on some tech project and Toby knows she is lying about something. A body turns up, apparently the third, and Toby decides to stay until she finds the killer.
I did like the mystery storyline though I at least one of these times she uses her blood powers she gains some useful information. Also more Tybalt. And less her getting in stupid relationships. I'll still continue this series.

Book:Late Eclipses- Seanan McGuire
Shelf: fae

October is at it again. Someone is poisoning her friends and it's up to Toby to figure out who. Before she is arrested and convicted of the crimes. Along the way, she discovers more about her heritage and that a very large secret has been kept from her. There are going to be changes in her future and maybe some romance. I enjoy this series very much and look forward to seeing more of Toby.

From a quick glance this appears to be a winning shelf for teams 4, 8, 10, and 14. Anyone want to make a guess who is going to call it first?

Book: Tarnished by Rhiannon Held
Date Read: 5/31
Rating: 3/5

Just okay. I loved the beginning and the performance by Graphic Audio was very well done. But it dragged and the ending lasted too long. However, it is a solid shifter world, I loved the first one in this series and I plan to read the next one.

I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage all players to finish up any reading & reviews, perhaps then claiming outstanding stamps, all in prep for the overwhelming stats that will be coming your way.
I'm giving you a week to finish and all reviews will count regardless whether it was an unfinished shelf or not.

Sometimes the mates theme gets old, but I didn't mind it here. The female MC was a bit much sometimes, but overall the book was enjoyable. I'll definitely read the next one.

Book: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer- Michelle Hodkin
Shelf: Series to Start
How it fits: on page 1 of the shelf
Date read: 6/5/17
Rating: 4 stars
This was an interesting book. Mara wakes up in the hospital after being in a coma for 3 days to discover that her best friend died in the collapse of the building that injured Mara. She doesn't remember the events. The family moves to Florida to get Mara away from the memories as she has developed PTSD. In Florida, Mara meets Noah. She also discovers that there is more to the night when her best friend died. She thinks that she is losing her mind. It was interesting to see where this was going. Just when you thought you understood it, you realized that you were wrong. I found this book intriguing and look forward to reading the next one.

Book: A Thousand Pieces of You
Date Read: 6/5
Rating: 3.5/5
Marguerite Caine's father has been murdered by his grad student. Her parents had developed a tool to transfer consciousnesses across dimensions and the murderer has sent himself away where he can't be tracked using the device.
But another grad student has two more prototypes and the two of them chase after him going into dimension that differ as little as wearing a different clothes on a day or as much as Tsars still ruling Russia.
I guessed a few of the twists and I'm not thrilled about the love triangle, but overall a fun book and a series I plan to continue.
