Hi, I just found this buddy read and started reading the book. My grandmother and her family left Ireland around the time the book was written so I have always thought it would give me some insight as to their lives. I'm going to sign up for the Irish read too. Have never belonged to a buddy read or done the spoiler stuff but will do my best to smarten-up on the tech.
Welcome, Elaine! We are now in Week Three of the buddy read, but it's never too late to add your thoughts.

That's an interesting interpretation. It could very well be the same boy.

(view spoiler)[Hi Samantha
Yes, I believe that she liked Frank and he provided an avenue of escape for her, but there was no real passion or love. But I don't agree that she was looking for reasons to get out of going with him so much as she was looking for reasons to stay.
She was as you put indecisive, weighing options and not sure what to do. Seems to me reason was telling her to start a new life. But I guess her real love was for Ireland. When it came down to it, it really wasn't even a choice, she froze, even though change was slowly taking the Ireland she loved away from her. (hide spoiler)]
