Sandra | 25908 comments Wow Loriidae that is excellent progress!!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Fantastic work Loriidae.

message 53: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Yeah, this challenge did nothing to help me stay focused on series needing to be completed. Still, I persevere.

Sandra | 25908 comments Me too Sam!!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Hmmmm, if it’s not helping then I’m not sure whether to run it again next year? Maybe it’s time to retire it.

lorii (Loriidae) | 522 comments I must admit I won't be continuing next year, but my reasoning is that I have decided to divorce more series and authors. I have read a lot of mediocre (3 star books) in my push to finish series. I did not list them all in my thread but I have either completed or brought up to date 50 series this year, (15 had only this year's published book to be read). I stopped DNF books as well so there will probably be more of that too

Sandra | 25908 comments Charlotte, its up to you, but its something I enjoy even if I don't complete all the books I list.

I also enjoy checking out all the books that others post.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Thank you Sandra. Let’s see what others think.

ladymurmur | 934 comments This challenge is going well. I'm somewhat stymied with my personal alphabet challenge, though. (author with Q first name - and a genre/story that actually appeals to me right now.) There's a month left, so there's still hope. Any suggestions are welcome!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments So, I think I’m going to retire this challenge at the end of the year. I still can’t believe I’ve run it for 6 years!

My tolerance threshold for bad series has dropped quite a bit and although my OCD is not happy about it - I’m also looking at dropping series (e.g James Patterson’s Alex Cross series is on a final warning, I’ve already binned his Private series).

I need to tackle the independent bookshop that my house has become. So my focus will probably be moving off series. At least a little bit....

message 62: by ladymurmur (new)

ladymurmur | 934 comments Moving off series too... ?? Inquiring minds want to know!

Seriously, thank you for running this challenge! It really has been a fun one, and very satisfying. :-)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments I think next year will involve more non-fiction. I have lots of biographies and historical books. Also gothic novels.

Seem to have a lot of books that have been in the house for a very long time (10 Year’s+). It’s time I got through some of those as well.

AliciaJ | 781 comments I'll be sorry to see this challenge go next year. This was my first time doing it and I really enjoyed it, even though I didn't finish all of the series I listed. I ended up finding a couple of new series that I really enjoyed just from seeing what others were reading, which was awesome.

So thank you for introducing me to this challenge Charlotte :)
It's inspired me to keep better track of my series. I think I'll make up a spreadsheet for myself listing the series I want to read for next year.

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments I hate this won't be continued next year. It really helped to keep me focused on series that I need to finish. I will most likely continue "the challenge" on my own so I will stay focused.

I didn't want you to take my comment the wrong way. I signed up with a lot of long series and I read a lot of books this year. I just didn't stay focused on the books I put on this list. If it is run again, I would just put fewer series on the list so that I can make better progress.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Ok, now I don’t know what to do. Sounds like you guys would like me to keep it running.....

I would love that, but I totally understand if you ready to let it go after so many years.

message 69: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, Charlotte, all you need to do is set it up. You personally don't have to do the challenge :) Hint, hint!!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments You guys are terrible..... leave it with me

message 71: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments I didn't mean to put any pressure on you or come across negatively in any way. I started this challenge in 2016 and had A LOT of long series listed so it seems like I haven't knocked many off my list. This year I have gotten distracted by getting hooked on other great books and series - mostly due to other challenges I participated in like my beloved BSB. I have several series that I will only listen to on audio (Psy-Changling & Guild Hunter, In Death and anything by Ilona Andrews). I read Slave to Sensation because it fit a shelf in BSB - HUGE mistake...I mean who can read that and just stop??? So I listened to the whole series (my OCD & ADD clash quite often). I hate to DNF anything and I have hundreds of books packed away in boxes that I cringe every time I think of getting rid of them so I just leave them and say I'll get to them eventually. This Challenge helps me to remember all the books I have packed away and checking something off a list is always a great feeling.
Wow, didn't mean for the post to be this long. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for creating this challenge as it has really helped me stay organized and enabled me to see what I have "on hold" with a quick glance. If you decide not to run it again next year it's totally understandable. I will just continue to do it on my own because it's so helpful to me personally.
I look forward to seeing new challenges you may come up with.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Hi Kim, please don’t worry, I was in two minds whether to keep going and initially there didn’t seem much interest in continuing.

However, since I said I was going to retire it I’ve been genuinely touched by people’s reaction.

I’ve got over 100 series started (and I seem to add new ones all the time) and this challenge has allowed me to pick out ones that I really wanted to progress with. Case in point is Wicked Lovely, I hadn’t touched that series in over 5 years - now hopefully I’ll finish it in the month or so.

I always wanted this challenge to be fun, to not put too much pressure on anyone - I read to relax, but I’m also an emotional reader - the book has to fit my mood. No matter how much I plan, my books always have other ideas - and now they’re telling me to carry on my wayward son - errr, sorry (now I have Dean Winchester in my head, haven’t started those books yet).

So, long story short - you guys have convinced me. I’ll get the thread for next year set up in the next few days.

Start planning your lists now!!!

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay!!!! Thank you Charlotte :)

message 74: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments Awesome!! I keep adding to my list too. I've got 3 series that I really need to get back to and finish - Riley Jensen, Morganville Vampires and Kitty Norville. Hopefully I'll get them completed in 2018 :)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments Thread for next year is up.
