Caron (diminishingthoughts) | 210 comments I wasn't approved for Laini's book. Oh well, guess I'll wait till it's published :/

message 102: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Hahah, totally worth it Nancy! I took the hit also ;)

Yeah, Kristie, I undid the standing hold I had on the book as soon as it was approved for me. Didn't want to clog anyone else in the line waiting for it.

Have to admit I haven't tried but I don't tend to have a lot of luck with Australian publishers. If it's any consolation Graeme Simsion's (author of The Rosie Project) latest book The Best of Adam Sharp by Graeme Simsion is available for request here.

I was approved and I also managed to get The Ninth Rain (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy, #1) by Jen Williams by Jen Williams. I've heard a lot of good things about her Copper Cat Trilogy so really looking forward to it.

message 104: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Alison. I think I'll skip it and just get it from the library when it is published. I have plenty to read right now anyway. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Nice Kristie! I was looking at the one by Sarah Jio (I love her writing) but I didn't think I would get to it by the February release date.
I'm looking forward to your review on it.

message 107: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I'm sure I won't get to it by the February release date either, but it looks interesting. I've never read any of her books, but have a couple of dusty paper copies sitting on my shelf somewhere. I always think they look good, but never seem to get to them. I figure this way I'm more likely to actually read it. I'm glad to see you like her writing, Cathie.

Kristie | 3595 comments I just got approved for My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella too! :)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Cathie! She's another author that I keep planning to read, but have never gotten around to. I'm hoping it's funny.

I've never read her either, but I know a lot of people that have and they all have glowing reviews of her writing. Looking forward to seeing what you think :-)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments Finally finished my second Netgalley book of the month and really enjoyed it!

Tangled Up (Taking Chances, #2) by Erin Nicholas

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I didn't realize it was the second book in a series when I requested it, so I had to get the first book and read it before I could get to the Netgalley book. But I managed to get to it the day after pub day, which isn't too bad!

message 115: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Finished a first quick review for this month for the book The Princess Saves Herself in this One by Amanda Lovelace . I found the writing very powerful for so little words it contains. Amber Lovelace wrote it over the course of at least 3 very hard, painful years in her life.
My small review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

(They are re-releasing/re-publishing it on February 14th)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments As the people I work beside are less than excited about my news I thought I'd come share here :)

I just had a wish granted on Netgalley so have a copy of Traitor to the Throne follow up to Rebel of the Sands. Don't think I've ever had a wish granted before.

message 117: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Congrats, Alison! That is exciting news! I don't think I've been granted a wish yet.

message 118: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Thanks Kristie.

On a previous occasion I thought a wish had been granted when a physical book appeared on my doorstep. Turned out I'd actually won a GoodReads giveaway but didn't get the notification.

I still have two January books (1/10 & 1/31) I want to try and finish this month. And maybe get to the two 2/7 ones.

Who am I kidding, that's a bit too optimistic.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 1142 comments A couple of new reviews this week. The good news is, these two are my 7th and 8th review of the month. The bad news is I've added 9 books to my shelf this month, so, I'm not moving much in my ratio. I' hope to get another few done this month so I can move up some more. LOL

Kristie | 3595 comments Also, in the message to the publisher part, I requested that they note when books are available only as protected pdf and not on Kindle. I'm not sure if that was a jerk thing to do (Does it come across as ungrateful for the opportunity to review the book??), but I thought if enough people comment on it, maybe they will start putting it out there so reviewers know before requesting.

I don't think it comes across as ungrateful. It's your preference. I actually agree. The conversion is usually awful on those when they are sent to my kindle account.
