NetGalley January 2017
Jennifer wrote: "Can I ask a very, very stupid question? What is a Net Galley shelf?"Hi Jennifer! NetGalley is a site that offers free ebooks for review. The shelf is similar to your to-read shelf on Goodreads. It is the books that you have been approved for that you need to read and review. So, your NetGalley shelf is on the NetGalley site.

I vaguely remembered some of them because when I hadn't been approved in time I had read them either on my Kobo or through the library for group botm's, challenges, etc., but there weren't very memorable because I had to to back to my shelves to remember anything, lol. The only really good one I can remember is the Return by Jason Mott.
I'm using the Kindle app on my phone and squinting a lot. I really need to buy a Kindle. I have a Kobo e-reader but Kindle's ability to post reviews to both Amazon and Goodreads at the same time have really spoiled me. I absolutely love the Kobo Tablet I had before and could read Kindle books through the Kindle App on it as well as Kobo books. I was trying to support our book industry up here.
On very good news, I got approved for another book!
Really happy to get approved for this one!Off to download it right now (via Kindle) :-)
YES! I am so excited! I was just approved for
by Kathleen Rooney.I know, I'm not supposed to be requesting new books...
shhhh

Lol!
No more requests until you publicly display the number of books on your netgalley shelf ;)

Hahah. There's actually quite a few that I'm biting my nails in hopes of receiving.
Did get approved for
this morning, though! :)
I saw that Strange the Dreamer was available for Australia (You get all the best books! lol), but not in the US, so I checked out my library and they have it on order. I should be able to get a copy not long after it is released. I hate to admit it, but this may be my first book by Laini Taylor. I never got around to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, which has been on my TBR forever.I've been doing well not requesting. The last one I requested I got specifically for another challenge. Now, I'm avoiding looking until I catch up a bit more.

I'm not quite ready for that. :D No more requesting books!
I have made a big dent, though.
I've made a pretty good dent this month as well. Must be the new year energy getting us through Amanda ;)

10 out of 10 stars. Already know that this is going to be one of my absolute favorite books of this year! Please do yourself a favor and go read it once it's out :)

Great review, Mars! Sounds like an excellent book and it is still available for request. "Members in Canada and United States are preferred." https://s2.netgalley.com/catalog/book...
Overall this month so far I have been approved for
This may be the most exciting month I have had on Netgalley so far!!
Nice, Nicole! Can't wait to see what you think of them. I'm curious about The Bear and the Nightingale. I almost requested that one.
I am at a bit of a standstill with NetGalley at the moment while I read books for group reads and other challenges, but I intend to finish at least two more before the end of the month. (hopefully more, but we'll see)
The only difficulty I have now, Kristie, is which one do I start next?!?Good luck with your challenge to yourself :D
Starting ratio: 97%Current ratio: 94%

That is a challenge! lol And thanks :)
Hahaha, apparently my answer to what I would read next is none of the above, but rather
from a couple of months ago. 'Getting rid of that backlog' month continues!!

That's the fun of NetGalley!"
Lol
I was trying to get to 100% and I had only one book left on my shelf so was at 99%... then Christmas came along and I opened up NetGalley and may have done some requesting... and now I have 7 books on my shelf. Haha

Hahaha! So close, Karen! I always think that I want to get to 100%, but honestly that just means that it's time to request more. You can't stay at 100 forever and still enjoy the site!
Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "I know! I was kind of hoping for some secret 100% badge, but I don't think they exist ;)"Yes, I was hoping for that too! LOL
I just keep getting approvals. 8 in the shelf now. I guess my hope of a secret 100% badge is buried for a few months! Haha
Nicole wrote: "Michelle thank you so much for the heads up that Ida is available for review!"Have you read it yet? I really want to but I haven't had the time! *cries uncontrollably*
Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "I just keep getting approvals. 8 in the shelf now. I guess my hope of a secret 100% badge is buried for a few months! Haha"So jealous! I just requested a book for the first time in months & am so anxious. . .
I've managed to clear one of my books and I am dragging my way through another (it really isn't the most exciting book - why did I request it?) I WON'T request any more, I won't, I won't...Awww, yes I will. Now I've seen the Laini Taylor book available...
I've just been approved for it :-)And there goes my rating back down to 68% (sigh). But worth it, I reckon.

So far, this NetGalley month has not panned out: 3 removed, 1 DNF, 1 blank copy, and I added one, which turned out to be not available on Kindle, only protected pdf. Hmm...hopefully the next will be better.
edit: I just realized that the excerpt is also available as a protected pdf, so I can probably get it on my old laptop, but to be honest, I'd probably rather just wait for the library and read a physical book. I'm first hold anyway.
