Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 1100 today. Pleased with that. 😁

message 2052: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) 150 yesterday. I've not been feeling well.

message 2053: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Nice going. None yesterday but I might manage a couple today, hopefully. We shall see. I’m looking at some shorts right now, and I’m not sure whether to try and plot the ruddy things or just jump in and start writing.

message 2054: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 1392_today. Rocking on! I need to as there's so much on this week and the coming weekend that writing time will be as scarce as hens' teeth.

message 2055: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Just over 1k. At a weekend. In the garden. It’s a new short and I am liking it. Woot! There’s another one on the way, too.

Cheers

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments They’re all about one character unfortunately but beggars can’t be choosers. :-)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Had a busy weekend doing stuff regarding the impending move and for K to spend time with grandchildren.

But that's just as well since I'm having trouble with the next scene. Can't get it right in my head

message 2059: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Only 413 words but it's keeping the story moving. Got a busy few days so I thought it was important to crack on, even for a short session.

I missed something? Did your house sell? Or are you going, regardless?

I can't wait to getting back to my scenes giving me that kind of trouble. This moving/selling/buying stuff, though necessary, takes way too much time.

message 2061: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) 500 words today, but I've got notes from my editor to work through later.

Congratulations - that's progress.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Holy shizzle! Wrote 1k today. Dead chuffed with that. Am hoping it will be a 10k short. If it is, it’s shaping up nicely. If it’s longer, I’ll be in a bit of a pickle as it’s for Christmas Lites and the deadline is 30th August. I have some thing up my sleeve I could use for that though.

Go Benjamin and Kath! Congrats, Will, and Go Alicia, sell sell sell!

Cheers

MTM

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments That's great, Mary.

message 2065: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Wish I could manage 1k a day, Mary - that's excellent.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 480. Knocked off for the village fish and chip lunch at which I am one of the serving wenches. Staff - can't get...

message 2067: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments 480 - when you could have just procrastinated until it was time to serve - impressive.

Jim | 21809 comments Kath wrote: "480. Knocked off for the village fish and chip lunch at which I am one of the serving wenches. Staff - can't get..."

staff? Don't need, just ask a busy woman :-)

message 2069: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments 800. Definitely procrastinated but luckily realised what I was doing in time to sit down and get some writing in. It's very waffly and a bit shite but I'm on 4,819 on day three. Hoping I can get it finished this month. I can work quite fast when I know where it's going. It's just that I don't always.

Am now even wondering if I'll be able to get another one in the bag before the end of term - although I've had two weeks off going to Sussex so I've been able to collect my thoughts a lot more efficiently than usual. It might all change when I go back to breaking up the week with my Wednesday Sussex trip next week.

We'll see.

Cheers

MTM

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) 800 for me, too. Maybe a quarter of the way done with this manuscript.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments 625 yesterday. Went at the scene from a different angle, and got around my problem

message 2072: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Sneaking up on it, eh? It works!

773 this morning. Off to do some weeding - sneak up on those and see what happens!

message 2073: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I get so depressed that I am better at growing weeds than I am at growing plants

message 2074: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I have brown fingers, too Will, in gardening terms, I mean.

1,600 today. It just crept up on me.

Cheers

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Will wrote: "I get so depressed that I am better at growing weeds than I am at growing plants"

I'm no longer physically capable of doing much weeding, but I enjoyed a beautiful perennial garden for years (and much work). Now it will be someone else's - and I won't even think about it. Things literally and figuratively have their seasons.

message 2076: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) 300. Slow day today.

message 2077: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments So true, Alicia. Benjamin, it’s 300 words that weren’t there the previous day.

Had a packed day yesterday, went to a forces day event in the local park and built models with McMini but to my joy, still hit my target of 1000 words. I have nearly finished a 10k short. Just need to add the finishing touches and, maybe, ramp up the tension a bit!

Cheers

MTM

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments As I was gigging all weekend, nothing added. But a lot of interesting dreams that will be a great help this week.

(Interesting in this context meaning colourful explosions in space)

message 2079: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Sorry; read 'gigging' as 'giggling' - need more caffeine.

Jim | 21809 comments Alicia wrote: "Sorry; read 'gigging' as 'giggling' - need more caffeine."

Actually I did as well :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm picturing Will giggling all weekend, at the end he was greatly weakened!

message 2082: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments If I'd partaken of everything on offer there, I'd have spent a lot of time giggling...

message 2083: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I just assumed it was giggling because of the colourful dreams bit.

1.1k today.

message 2085: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Unproductive couple of days here. I need to get my act together.

message 2086: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Did 800 yesterday and I think I’ve sort of finished the 10k short but it’s 13k and will probably be about 15k when I’m done ... so I need to write another one for the anthology now. I reckon if I aim for 5k and hit six it might work!

message 2087: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments It's always something.

Yesterday, I destroyed my Mac's just about everything. I'm playing games and doing this just to keep myself from making the disaster bigger.

message 2088: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I hope you were backed up, preferably to an external drive

message 2089: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Blimey Alicia, I hope it recovers ... ugh, I hate computers.

message 2090: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Backed up - I thought - in several places. None of which I dare touch until there is some thinking and I'm less tired.

There is probably hope of getting a lot of stuff back, but I still don't understand why Mail is doing what it does, so I will try to learn that first.

Just taking a break from really thinking.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Oh dear ... afraid I know nowt about Macs, Windows is bad enough.

Am slogging on with the book edit. Don't know why everything takes so long these days ....

message 2092: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 663 today. Current opus now standing at 23,839.

message 2093: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) 1000 yesterday, which feels a bit more like it.

message 2094: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Go Benjamin and Kath, comiserations Alicia and keep going Pam!

Managed 800 yesterday, finished the short but it's too long for the anthology it's for so I've started another one.

Just over 500 today but I only had 20 minutes.

Cheers

MTM

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Sounds the right length to publish by itself, Mary.

message 2096: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Kath wrote: "Sounds the right length to publish by itself, Mary."

I aim at between 18,000 and 25,000 words for the Port Naain Intelligencer stories
It seems to be a nice length

message 2097: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That's a novella then, Jim. 17,5000 to 40,000, they say. Mary's is a jolly decent short story, or even a novelette. Just wish that word didn't sound so twee.

message 2098: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments For size I found this
Short fiction: under 7,500 words. Novelette: 7,500-17,500 words. Novella: 17,500-40,000 words. Novel: 40,000 words and up

However the wiki says

Novelette may refer to:

A novella, especially with trivial or sentimental themes
A narrative work of prose fiction shorter than a novella and longer than a short story
Novelette (music), short piece of lyrical music

I suspect the 'trivial or sentimental themes' might colour the other meanings of the term

message 2099: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments But yes, I've just put the finishing touches to the next Tallis Steelyard Novella :-)
It's now sit quietly for a few months until I can read through it again without knowing what I meant to say
And then I'll do the final edit and it'll be ready for proof reading

Flower arranging, horse theft and steam ship engineering feature as well as poetry

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Not steam ship arranging and horse engineering?
