Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential—and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

I've started, only up to chapter 3. I like it so far. I like what the angst that being set up with the team and Exy sounds interesting (view spoiler)[ I'm really looking forward to figure out what up with Neil's dad, I get that he some sort of violent criminal, and what his deal with Kevian is, how did they know each other. I'm not a big sport person so it's kinda weird reading this but I'm really enjoying it! The characters and the dynamics are really interesting.

it kind of still feels like I'm just reading the start of a story even though I've nearly finished it which is a strange feeling but somehow works here??

(view spoiler)[I'm interested where it'll go from here. you can tell there will be some big confrontation and somehow the teens will win against multiple gangs but I'm interested to see how exactly that confrontation comes about. I also wanna know what they do now that Seth has died like do Neil and Kevin just play the whole time every game and if so what the hell happens when one gets injured? Anyway I'm glad the weird thing between Andrew and Neil is over it was a little confusing to me (hide spoiler)]

OMG Riko is such a dick! How can one person be such an evil asshole?!?!? The Ravens were ridiculous though, with the matching clothes and formations. They reminded me of Team Rocket or some other kids show with wacky evil henchmen.
Neil draggon Riko is the best thing ever!!! He is so vicious it's amazing! I need every main character to drag their antagonist the way Neil drags Riko!!!
What is Neil going to do now that Kevin knows his secret? How is Andrew going to react?!?!?! (hide spoiler)]

every scene where Neil drags riko is just so amazing, books would be such a fun time if instead of fighting the antagonist you just drag them on national TV or in front of all of their friends

Almost every book would be made better if the main character dragged their antagonist like Neil, I honestly can't name a book that wouldn't be made people but dragging the bad guy in front of a crowd!

also afterwards when wymack was like wow great kevin is turning in to Neil, just what we needed and then nicKY GOES "At least you can legally take out life insurance on one of them" and Wymack just goes "Out, everyone out." I could not stop laughing omg that whole chapter was a blessing (hide spoiler)]
