One of my favorites is The Legend of Eli Monpress. It has a lot of humor and a great thief character.

Hoping to find something more dark (adult not adolescent dark)
Have you red the Bartimaeus trilogy, by Jonathan Stroud? What about all the Vorkosigan novels, by Lois Bujold?
Ha, Lois Bujold will keep you going for awhile. I listen to a podcast that loves the series and whenever they are doing a "what are you reading now," they reference Vorkosigan somehow.
You might try the books written by James Branch Cabell. He did most of his writing in the 1920s, but the stories hold up well, and many of them are available for free on Kindle.
A darker, somewhat unusual series is Liz Williams' Detective Chen, which starts with Snake Agent. It is a little bit of a series misnomer, as it isn't about Inspector Chen in the following books, as much as the group of friends and colleagues.
I've previously recommended this series, but I don't see it listed so: Acacia: The War with the Mein is the first book in a fully completed trilogy, ergo no waiting. It features Game-of-Throne-esque characters, but the world feels fresh, and it is kind of dark, and very adult.Happy reading!

Oh, also His Majesty's Dragon, which is a great series, though a lot of people think the later books(6-8) are not as good. I wouldn't exactly consider them dark, though.

Yeah, I would definitely pace myself with Bujold. Do NOT read more than one book a week. Otherwise you will burn through them all in a month and be grouchy like the rest of us because there are no more.
Well if you enjoyed the Tawny Man books, there's always the Rain Wilds Chronicles or the Soldier Son series--the former's in the same world setting, the latter is its own. By the same author, same delightful gift for prose and character.

Whether you start with Bujold's science fiction (Vorkosigan) books or her fantasies, she's well worth reading, My favourite of her fantasies is The Curse of Chalion. Superb main character, buckets of tension. and some particularly nasty magic.
So true. I judge that CURSE OF CHALION is possibly one of the best fantasy novels ever.
If you want something lighter, what about the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett? Any involving the City Watch would be my suggestion if you want to try just one or two.
Im looking for something more dark, getting burnt out quick on the happy ending books. Malazaan is yet to be dethroned as my favorite series.

Why don't you try Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.. It's an excellent series.

You can try the Cold Fire trilogy starting with Black Sun Rising and also the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone starting with The Briar King.
If you want dark, how about a protagonist who has to deal with his own leprosy and there is the issue of rape and dealing with personal demons. Stephen R. Donaldson "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant." Start with Lord Foul's Bane. Also, Andrew had a wonderful suggestion with Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy.
Miles Cameron ' the red knight ' is pretty gritty .....hehe I should be a rapperAnd the second book is better than the first which rarely happens and if he continues with the upward trajectory it will defo go down as a classic
How about myth adventures or witch world or various series by Mercedes Lackey or dragon riders of pern or the amber series ....There are a lot if series to look at.
I recommend the Darkborn series by Alison Sinclair and the Books of the Raksura series by Martha Wells (begins with The Cloud Roads).You might also like the Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara West, start with Cast in Shadow. Despite the cover illustrations, this is not an Urban Fantasy series, has no paranormal elements, and has zero 'romance' -it's a pretty dark fantasy world, and the series is up to book 9 already.
You might also like the Throne of Glass series, that one is up to 2 books out, next one to be published in 2015, I believe.
I also recommend the other Robin Hobb series set in the same world as her Tawny Man & Farseer series, if you haven't read them already. Liveship Traders series and the Rain Wild series. I recommend you read LiveShip before RainWild though, because there are a lot of spoilers, and some continuing characters.
Also, the Kings Blades series by Dave Duncan, there are a couple places to start with that one, I generally go with first written, but then I read them as they were being published.

I'd second Carol Berg's Lighthouse duet, starting with Flesh and Spirit/Another series that I found excellent, but is widely underread, C. J. Cherryh's Fortress in the Eye of Time - great characters, wonderful unusual plot, and as the series progresses, very well done magic.
You may also enjoy Barbara Hambly's work, she has several series - Darwath trilogy, Silicon Mage, Suncross and several more - all well done.
You don't seem to have tried Stephen R. Donaldson - while many find his Thomas Covenant series has a trigger warning, the softer approach to his work would be his Mordant's Need duology - A Man Rides Through and sequel - it has all of Donaldson's signature style (minus the trigger) and some startling plot twists.
I don't see Brent Weeks on the list. And I'm a big fan of anything by Brandon Sanderson.
How about The Snow Queen Cycle series by Joan D Vinge? It's pretty dark and complex, as well as excellent reading.
Oh, and there's also anything by Tanya Huff. She's awesome.
