Amelia (narknon) Hi, I'm currently reading Trail of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz. This is one of the funniest series I've ever read. Highly recommend them. I'm also listening to Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I'm almost finished with that one. I plan on listening to The Dog Who Knew Too Much by Spencer Quinn after I finish the other one.

Ransom is a talented writer. Great storytelling. I think some of my favorite things about his writing include his descriptions (picks the perfect words to paint a picture), mystery (keeps you wondering what will happen next), and it's funny (there are several parts in the book where I just crack up). I would definitely recommend reading it. I'll have more input when I'm done with the book. Thanks for asking.

I've read the first book in the Broken Kingdoms series by Jemison. I keep meaning to get back and finish that series. It's good to know that her newer series are good as well.

I'm reading Anger Meridian by Kaylie Jones. To be honest, it's one of the better books that I've read. I've heard it classified as literary fiction, but I've found it an easy read and very compelling. The writing definitely is a skilled in her craft.

message 22: by John (new)

John Winston (johndarrylwinston) I just finished up Second Wind by Amanda Giasson and Julie B. Campbell. It's part to of the Love At First Plight series, pretty good.

Loved Anger Meridian. I concur on it being one of the better books out there. In fact, I'd say it's hard to find much better. Kaylie is a great writer. It's in her blood. She's the daughter of the late great author, James Jones, and one of my mentors when I was in creative writing school, I'm proud to say.

message 24: by James (new)

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) I haven't read a single book that anyone's listed.

I just started reading Pawn of Prophecy, by David Eddings.

I've never read any of his work, before. It always ended up being something I planned to read, one day. Guess it's "one day".

message 25: by John (new)

John Winston (johndarrylwinston) Sounds good, James. Let us know what you think. We're going to nominate some books soon to vote on as group reads.

message 26: by James (new)

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) Yep, I'll be there.

message 27: by Jo (new)

Jo Lisa (jolisa) | 1 comments I'm currently reading The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky and Werewolves in Their Youth by Michael Chabon. It is a group of short stories that are so unique!

message 28: by K. (new)

K. Hello there.
I'm currently reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan. This book is a mixture of science and philosophy, and it also provides us the biographical anecdotes about many well known scientists throughout history, placing their contributions into the broader context of the development of modern science.

James this was the second series I read when I started reading fantasy in my teens. (Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were first). I hope you enjoy Pawn of Prophecy.

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) Angela wrote: "I hope you enjoy Pawn of Prophecy"

Thanks. So do I.

message 31: by C-shaw (new)

C-shaw James, I haven't read a single one of them either, except that I have the Miss Peregrine book and its sequel - have yet to read them. That's one reason I joined the group: to hear discussions about more wonderful books I may want to read. (As if I needed more!!) I am also looking forward to a group read, something I've never done.
One suggestion I might have for a group read is a Ken Follett book, or perhaps _Forever Amber_, but I am open to any number of book genres. My least favorite type is RO-mances, though I've been known to read a few.

message 32: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Stevens | 1 comments Hello group :) I am currently reading The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams . It's a lovely book

message 33: by Libby (new)

Libby | 2 comments Hi!
I just finished a remarkable audio of Go Tell it on the Mountain! I loved it! I loved the ambiguous ending, it got my mind going places I'm not sure was intended...but maybe...

Well... I have "Miss Peregrine's..." and "I Am Number 4", but I haven't read them.

message 35: by C-shaw (new)

C-shaw Let's not get started on all the [hundreds and hundreds] of books we have but haven't gotten around to reading!

A really fascinating book. Rice is such a dynamic person, and her deep love and appreciation for her parents and her family is all over the book.

message 41: by Karrie (new)

Karrie Stewart I'm really into non-fiction write now. I picked up We Gon' Be Alright: Notes on Race and Resegregation and it is very sobering!

message 42: by Kaleena Rheeya (new)

Kaleena Rheeya (kaleenarheeya) | 2 comments Hi all,

I am currently reading "Adnan's Story" based on Adnan Syed's case (featured on the podcast Serial.) Next book will be "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."

I thought 13 reasons why was just okay. I think I gave it 3 stars. I thought the cassette tape structure was fresh and unique and the writing, very good. Where I lost it was on the victim's motivation. I couldn't relate to her reasons, although I was empathic, and that part of it made the book a little difficult to finish. Your turn.

message 44: by Anna (new)

Anna | 20 comments I am reading The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson.

I am also listening to the audiobook of The Witches by Stacy Schiff.

message 45: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I read several books at a time ... 8-10 usually. The main ones now are Deep South by Nevada Barr, The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler & Dracula by Bram Stoker. Really enjoying the one by Barr, not sure yet about the Kepler (my first by him) & love Stoker's Dracula. It's my 2nd reading of it.

message 46: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 8 comments I'm like Martha, several at a time:

The Fifth Witness
Silent Night: The Remarkable Christmas Truce of 1914
When Books Went to War: The Stories that Helped Us Win World War II
All the Light We Cannot See
Fragile
After You

These are just a few I have book marks in...

I love mysteries, court room dramas, FBI profilers, Forensics, Private Eye, Detective from the cozy to the dark. I also love paranormal, vampire, werewolf types been reading Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison. I love chicklit, SyFy, classics, YA, children's and whatever trips my reading trigger in between. I dig series as well: JD Robb, Craig Johnson, Michael Connelly, Dana Stabenow and Stuart Woods I flip back and forth from plus several other authors.

It didn't leave me giggling, like a schoolgirl. But at least it didn't leave me frothing at the mind.

Here's my review, if you're interested.

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) My current current read is Storm Front. This is my first book by Jim Butcher.

So far, I'm finding his style incredibly easy to read and I'm enjoying the character, Harry Dresden.

message 50: by Lissette (new)
