Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments I absolutely LOVE getting picks from Dee, I am always guaranteed a list of great reads! I will definitely be reading Sixth Grave on the Edge, Rumor Has It and The Duchess War since I need those for the Meet & Greet challenge. I added all of the new choices to my TBR so it'll depend on how they fit into certain challenges as to what I'll read first :)

Thanks Dee!!

Ella, I just went through the picks Kami made for you and because she gave you extra picks, even after removing the books that were DNFs for you and the one that isn't available, you still received four new and four from your shelves. That being the case, she would not be required to make repicks. However, there was only one book for the first picking rule, so I will ask her to do a repick for that spot. She may decide to do others for you as well, but that will be up to her.

Just a suggestion for the future, if you add those books to your DNF shelf, it would help your picker know more of what you do not like. It might help you to get picks more to your liking.

Everyone, I'm sorry if it seems I am being hard-nosed about the rules for repicks, but I am just trying to keep the challenge fun and fair for everyone. If the picker has done what they are supposed to do, I don't want to add any extra burden to them.

Huh, well that is misleading because when I checked the publication date it said that the book was first published November 2011. Guess it is being re-released this year? I was not aware of that fact. Sorry. I was just going by the publication date. How about Unwrapped by Laurelin Paige. It was published Dec 23 2013. And it is on your TBR. Hopefully that is more to your liking for Something old.

message 155: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Guess even when you select "date pub" you can still get a book that isn't available. I didn't know that.

It looks like it was published in the UK, but it isn't available here yet. I thought that was really weird too!

Grace | 1732 comments Hi KarenH! I'm working on your picks and promise to have them up tomorrow morning.

message 158: by Ella (new)

Ella | 126 comments I know I should be more diligent with my DNF shelf, and for that I apologize. But there should be a balance - at Something Borrowed - all the books are from my TBR (4 of them) also something borrowed means: Borrow some of the recommendations given to you at some point! Pick two books recommended to you at some point, preferably one new-to-them and one from their TBR or preferred shelf. If you can't find one on their shelves, pick two new books for them. Just make sure you pick two from their shelves in another category - I find it hard to believe that all those books were recommended to her at some time or another.
I'm not trying to be mean or picky. I know I'm half to blame by not updating my DNF shelf, but, after spending more than 4 hours trying to find picks for Ty, my imbecility in forgetting to update that shelf and seeing 2 of those books among my picks, seeing 2 more picks with love triangles in them (something I do not like, even the suggestion of it makes the book unreadable to me) I was a bit bummed.
That being said, I now understand the rules for repicks, I'm sorry and I apologize if I bothered anyone and I won't be requiring any new picks.

mary (darcyfanatic) | 39 comments Hey Cmkage, thanks for all the great picks!

I don't know if I am being ambitious, but I am going to try to read: The Will, A Hunger Like No Other, The Perfect Play, and Within Temptation.

I am graduating in a couple of weeks and I am looking forward to binge reading for a couple of days once I survive my finals :)

message 162: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Skandia Okay, let's try this a second time. Crossing my fingers that I actually get to finish the post this time around.

Hi, here are your picks. If you have any problems, let me know.

Something Old
Open Season by Linda Howard -- Linda Howard is one of my comfort read authors. I've read many of her books multiple times. A few of my favorites are on your shelves already, but Open Season has just the right touch of humor mixed in with the romantic suspense.
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory -- I've not read this book, but I've seen some good reviews on it.

Something New
Laid Bare by Lauren Dane -- This one might be a stretch to fit on your shelves, there are elements of BDSM as well as a romantic triad/menage developing between the three main characters, but I absolutely love the Brown family.
The Collector -- You commented in one of your reviews you seem to enjoy NR's stand alone books more than her trilogies/series. You don't have this new release on your shelf yet and it is a stand alone.
Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire -- I saw this on your shelf and had to recommend it. I love her October Daye series and intend to pick this new release up soon.

Something Borrowed
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi -- This caught my eye when I was browsing through your TBR and I clicked on the link to read more about it. Imagine my surprise to see a banner at the top of the page informing me that it had been recommended to me by a friend. The concept sounds interesting and I added it to my shelves.
Tiger Eye by Marjorie M Liu -- I'd seen this series a bit over the last few years, but never got beyond the maybe-some-day stage with it. Then last fall, my PIFM partner recommended it to me and I thought why not. I really enjoyed it and the next 2 books, plus a shorter novella. Currently, #5 is sitting at home waiting to be read.
Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare -- I've had this recommended more than once but have never gotten around to reading it. I did read book 2 a few years back and enjoyed it.

Something Blue
Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley -- Jennifer Ashley is another favorite of mine. I love her historical books about the Mackenzie family. I love her Urban Fantasy series written as Allyson James. And I love this PNR series.
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh -- I saw this on your shelf and just had to recommend it. She's another author that never seems to disappoint me and I'm already anxiously awaiting the release of the next book from this series in just 9 days. To indicate how much I love this series, I'm willing to spring for hardcover pricing.
Moon Called by Patricia Briggs -- Another series on your shelves I would definitely recommend. I have to buy the hardcovers for this one as well; I just can't seem to wait on the pb.

Open Season by Linda Howard The White Queen (The Cousins' War, #1) by Philippa Gregory Laid Bare (Brown Siblings, #1) by Lauren Dane The Collector by Nora Roberts Sparrow Hill Road (Ghost Stories, #1) by Seanan McGuire Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi Tiger Eye (Dirk & Steele, #1) by Marjorie M. Liu Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Wow, Ella - thank you so much for the extremely thoughtful picks. I wish you hadn't spent 4 hours on it, tho! But, I really appreciate it - some of your insight was pretty spot-on (re: how anti-NR I am, lol)

I definitely plan on reading lots of your picks for various challenges next month - particularly Days of Blood, Love Thy Neighbor, Collide. I totally TBR'd Beautifully Damaged, Raising Ryann (MMA!), and Dark Protector.

Erin (erin-b) Hi Angi, so sorry for the late post. I had to take a midterm this weekend and studying took longer than I anticipated. Hope you find something you like here, or let me know and I can pick a few more.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue...

Something Old: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh and Bunny and the Bear by Eve Langlais are two of my favorites and both the beginning of fun series. I saw Painted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen on your preferred shelf and it sounded pretty interesting.

Something New: An Accidental Goddess by Linnea Sinclair is another favorite of mine or The Kitchen God's Girlfriend by Candice Butler from your preffered shelf also sounds really interesting.

Something Borrowed: Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison, Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch, and Elizabeth's Wolf by Lora Leigh are three of my favorites that have been recommended to me in the past.

Something Blue: Son of the Morning by Linda Howard and Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb are both by authors that I go back to over and over again when I am looking for a good read. Cerulean by Anna Kyss or or Tab Bennett and the Inbetween by Jes Young are both on your preferred shelf and sounded like interesting reads. Or, you seem to have enjoyed the rest of Rick Riordan's book, so maybe give The Son of Neptune a try.

Thanks Mary. I was just about to start reading Breakable. If I can resist a little longer I will save it for June first! Otherwise, I will read The Truth About Forever.

Thanks for the picks MountainKat and sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I really should update my profile, I don't think I have since I first joined GoodReads. I'm thinking of reading Let's Hear It for the Boy by T.A. Webb and either Wild Wolf (Shifters Unbound, #6) by Jennifer Ashley or Twice Tempted (Night Prince, #2) by Jeaniene Frost . Thanks again!

I'm glad you found something you want to read! I loved Let's Hear It for the Boy, but I should warn you I was sobbing by the end. It was amazing for something so short and so very touching!

Thanks so much for the picks, Nancy! I'm going to try to get to as many of them as I can, but I'm definitely going to make sure that I read Personal Effects because I think you're right; I think I'm really going to like that one.
