message 856: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Heck, I clicked on the spoilers, but have no idea what they mean...so I'm spoiled, but clueless still :D

message 858: by Leslie (last edited Feb 15, 2018 03:40PM) (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Jean, why do spoilers show on your phone? My phone is my only internet access and I have to click on spoiler to see it (in the thread). If you get email notifications (which I dont anymore) they don't hide the spoilers which is total crap!! 💩

Are you using the app or mobile site? I only use full site. Everything else is also total crap. 💩

message 859: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) I read the spoilers. *shrugs* I'm not gonna read the book, so....

Yeah Kooloo, that image is creepy! But I kinda like it anyway.

message 860: by Kooloo (new)

Kooloo | 596 comments That’s so strange Leslie because I just tried it on my iPhone and used the Desktop not the App version and it just says “view spoiler”
And when I tap on it - it won’t even open the spoiler?

message 861: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments The spoilers show up in my emails. They do not show up on the app (can't even click on them through the app... have to go to full website). If you disabled your email alerts, how do you know when someone commented?

message 862: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments The bell on the website. I usually ignore Goodreads until I actually want to read it. So, I just see the notifications click each unread and go from there.

message 863: by Kooloo (new)

Kooloo | 596 comments Ya I just open GRs every so often and look at the bell at the top a Right like Tessa. If there are new comments from the group it will number them off🤩

message 864: by JudyCa (new)

JudyCa | 1709 comments Hey my dark-read-like-it-f'd-up gr friends 😁 have any of you read the Killers series by JA Redmerski?? I'm reading the newest one now... I love this psychotic group of Killers 😉

message 865: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I don't get spoilers on my email updates - they just tell me someone has commented

message 866: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments I may have to try that.... turning off my email notifications and just going to the website. I saw you guys talking about removing the app from my phone too.

message 867: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Perhaps the email showing spoilers thing only happens for USA? Since Kooloo & Paula are outside US?

Anyway, Jean....I would recommend disabling email alerts and do what Tessa said. Use the bell at top of site. That is what I do. I keep a tab open of goodreads site on my phone and refresh it & check it throughout the day.

message 868: by Robin (new)

Robin Hill (robinhill) | 1528 comments I see spoilers too. I just try to be careful but that doesn't always work. If I'm BR'ing with you or it's something I know I'll want to read later, I'll turn them off just for that thread, but it's a pain.

message 869: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments I'm going to try that Leslie!

message 870: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Honestly Jean, its the best way for me. I want the option of being able to choose what spoilers to see. I am constantly checking GR, so I dont feel like I am missing anything.

Judy, that sounds right up my alley. Gonna go check it out now!!!

message 872: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments I don't want to see spoilers either! And I'm sure I'll have no problem with constantly checking GR!

Judy--I read Killing Sarai back in 2014 and LOVED it. And then I made the mistake of listening to the audio book of Reviving Izabel and got totally turned off. I gave it 4 stars because of the great story, but the narration was so bad (I gave it a long, ranty review, lol), the worst I've ever experienced, that I lost interest.

I'll try to go back to it and move The Swan and the Jackal up on my TBR. Heck, I'd read that one for the title alone!

I don't purchase too many book, because KU, but I have all of these...and if amazon.ca would allow me to lend out I'd gladly lend it to you...however, I believe they are all on KU now...the first 3 are basically about Sarai and Victor but then rest focus on other members of the group...it's one of my all time favourite series...this new one is so good! And I know there are more books to come :)

@ Lisa, you have to give it a try!

It's a great series if you don't mind them not being stand-a-lone's...and now with this latest one, lots of new secrets coming out ;)

message 877: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Thanks, Judy. They are KU.

I think I already have #3 and #4 on my Kindle and then I'll use KU for the rest.

Ela | 4291 comments HERE’S SOME DANDIES....ENJOY
These great questions and answers are from the old days when the Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now!

Q. Do female frogs croak?
A. Paul Lynde: If you hold their little heads under water long enough.

Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?
A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it.

Q. True or False, a pea can last as long as 5,000 years.
A. George Gobel: Boy, it sure seems that way sometimes.

Q. You've been having trouble going to sleep. Are you probably a man or a woman?
A. Don Knotts: That's what's been keeping me awake.

Q . Paul, what is a good reason for pounding meat?
A. Paul Lynde: Loneliness!
(The audience laughed so long and so hard it took up almost 15 minutes of the show!)

Q. According to Cosmopolitan, if you meet a stranger at a party and you think that he is attractive, is it okay to come out and ask him if he's married?
A.. Rose Marie: No wait until morning.

Q. Which of your five senses tends to diminish as you get older?
A. Charley Weaver: My sense of decency..

Q. What are 'Do It,' 'I Can Help,' and 'I Can't Get Enough'?
A. George Gobel: I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment.

Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking?
A. Rose Marie: You ask me one more growing old question, Peter, and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget.

Q. Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather?
A. Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.

Q. Charley, you've just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
A. Charley Weaver: Of course not. I'm too busy growing strawberries.

Q. In bowling, what's a perfect score?
A. Rose Marie: Ralph, the pin boy.

Q. During a tornado, are you safer in the bedroom or in the closet?
A. Rose Marie: Unfortunately Peter, I'm always safe in the bedroom.

Q. Can boys join the Camp Fire Girls?
A. Marty Allen: Only after lights out.

Q. When you pat a dog on its head, he will wag his tail. What will a goose do?
A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark?

Q. If you were pregnant for two years, what would you give birth to?
A. Paul Lynde: Whatever it is, it would never be afraid of the dark.

Q. According to Ann Landers, is there anything wrong with getting into the habit of kissing a lot of people?
A. Charley Weaver: It got me out of the army.

Q. Back in the old days, when Great Grandpa put horseradish on his head, what was he trying to do?
A. George Gobel: Get it in his mouth.

Q. Who stays pregnant for a longer period of time, your wife or your elephant?
A. Paul Lynde: Who told you about my elephant?

Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they?
A. Charley Weaver: His feet.

Q. According to Ann Landers, what are two things you should never do in bed?
A. Paul Lynde: Point and laugh

We don't stop laughing because we grow old - we grow old because we stop laughing.

*snort* Oh my, Ela... I actually giggled out loud with some of those!

message 892: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I think I actually saw some of those when they originally aired! lol

message 893: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I have no idea what Hollywood Squares is....

message 894: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments It's a gameshow based on Tic Tac Toe. Celebrities are in each square, and the contestant chooses a square. Each square, the host asks the celebrity a question. The contestant chooses if it's true or false. If they were right, they'd get their symbol (X or O) and if it was wrong, it would be their opponent's symbol. The exception was for a win. The winner had to answer correctly.

My mom LOVED gameshows and I've seen almost all of them as a result. :) Also, in the late nineties, it came back and occasionally had the Buffy characters on.

message 895: by Kooloo (new)

Kooloo | 596 comments Paula lol!!!!

Wait didn’t they have a British version

message 896: by JudyCa (new)

JudyCa | 1709 comments Those are great Ella! I remember watching that show as a kid...I think I've seen reruns on TV on a game show station that runs episodes from the 70's and 80's...it's hilarious!!

message 897: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I googled it Kooloo and apparently we did have a version - Celebrity Squares! On 75 - 79 and 93 - 97 - I can’t remember it, my other half vaguely remembers it (and blames his mother for knowing about it!) I don’t think it was very popular over here
