Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Yay! I got my first score in this game! :) I need to play more often!

message 202: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Wow! Myra and Annie you guys are really good!! Seriously where are you guys pulling the titles from? Lol! Either way the book sounds really good!! I'm definitely up for that one!

message 203: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments I agree with Josen. Must be some telepathy going on. O_o

I've never heard of it, but it does sound good.

Click here for the must read fantasy/sci-fi list that I first saw our May 2017 book on

Also, I am updating the first entry with our current standings.

I wanted to mention, too, that this one stuck out because I searched "Top Fantasy Stand Alone Books" and Sunshine was on several lists.

Guessing coming soon! My last few picks seem to have been a bit lackluster. I am going to have to ramp up my book finding criteria for June!

Let the June 2017 Book-a-Book Selection guessing begin!

message 208: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments But what's our clue?? Lol! ;) "cleansing the palate"? "not so serious"?

Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Well, I just read the other email, and now feel that my guess is completely off base... lol. It's been a long day and not a lot of coffee....

Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Do you ever pick books written for kids?

message 214: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
How young are we talking? For the purpose of this club, young adult is about the lowest I would go.

message 215: by Annie (new)

Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Okie dokie artichokie! I'm a children's librarian, so I read lots of children's books. Thought I might have a bit of an advantage if you were choosing a kids book to lighten the mood, but since you aren't, I'll try a different line of attack.... Before I get away from it completely, though, is this pick a young adult book?

message 216: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Ha! Artichokie!

Good question! It is not a YA book.

message 217: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
And, I know some books walk the line between YA and adult . . . I am pretty sure there is no way this could be mistaken as YA.

message 218: by Annie (new)

Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Is the author a woman?

message 219: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Annie wrote: "Is the author a woman?"

Ooooh - I worry answering that might give too much away - eliminating half of all books! ;)

How about this . . . whether the author is a man or a woman does relate . . .

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Not hearing much from our usual guessers . . .

Another hint - I went to the David Letterman show in 2000 and this author was a guest.

Lol I can see all the Googling being done on this.

message 222: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Was the author a guest for this particular book? :)

message 223: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
No, this author was actually not promoting a book at the time.

message 225: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Good guess! Getting warmer!

message 227: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
wrong again - but these are great guesses!

message 229: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Nope! :)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Nice guesses Kandice, but no.

One thing to remember when thinking about your guess is what I said when Annie asked me about the sex of the author . . ..

You said it mattered, yes?

message 233: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
It relates to the book, for sure!

message 236: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
The Duchovny guess is not close, but more on the right track.

Another clue - the cover of the book is a photograph, not a drawing/artwork.

message 237: by Annie (new)

Annie Payne (anniemae85) | 75 comments Interesting clues...

message 238: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (artemitch) Naked - David Sedaris?

message 239: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
No - but I like the direction you are going.

message 241: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Ha! Wow! That is a heck of a guess - I almost wish that is what it was!

message 242: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Another clue for anyone working the David Letterman angle. I was disappointed that there was no musical guest.

message 243: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Hmm - No guesses after that last clue . . .

Okay, since this has been going on a few days, I will let you know that the author is male.

message 244: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (artemitch) Is this a celebrity memoir of some sort or no?

message 245: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Michelle wrote: "Is this a celebrity memoir of some sort or no?"

Not an overall life memoir, but a retrospective on parts of it.

message 247: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Nope, Annie - a little less serious than that.

Annie is the winner! The book is Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan!

I saw him May 18, 2000 on Letterman with Jackie Chan . . . but no musical guest :(
