Glad you are interested in the selection! :)

Side note: I think this might be the first time I picked a book that no one in the group has read yet!

message 105: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Story of Your Life

I've also read Tower of Babylon.

He's a terrific writer, along the same lines as Philip K. Dick. Almost always a twist of some sort.

Meghan | 118 comments Ooooh-I can't wait! I saw Arrival when it came out in the theatres and have been interested in reading Ted Chiang ever since! Looking forward to this one.

Time to guess the March 2017 selection.

First hint: The genre of the book is mystery/crime fiction

Happy guessing!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Hey Myra! If one of the characters has the same last name as me, I am not aware of it (it is not the book I recently added to my TBR where the main character has the same last name as me).

Next hint: It is not a recent release - I was not old enough to drive yet when this came out, but it was during my lifetime.

message 109: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Oooo.......I'm reading Koko now.....really good!

Umm.......is the setting present day of when the book came out?

message 110: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Not Koko . . . but a good guess!

I would guess, based on the description, that the setting in the book is somewhat contemporary for when it was released.

Another hint - I have read other books by this author.

message 111: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (artemitch) Is it by a fairly famous author whose name we would know? Also, does this book club do series?

message 112: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
I would say that it is a famous author. I am not opposed to doing the first book in a series in this group if it can also stand alone (hope that makes sense).

message 113: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Another great guess, Myra, but not exactly . . .

More hints coming soon!

Michelle (artemitch) Matthew wrote: "I would say that it is a famous author. I am not opposed to doing the first book in a series in this group if it can also stand alone (hope that makes sense)."

Yeah, that makes sense.

Hm... is it by one of these authors?
John Grisham
Stephen King
Dean Koontz
Jo Nesbo

message 115: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
It is not one of those authors . . . nice guesses, though!

message 116: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis How about something by

J. Deaver
Mario Puzo
Dan Brown?

message 117: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
More great guesses!

Another hint: I have yet to spell the author's name correctly on my first try. I usually have to type in the title of a book to find it.

message 118: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Harlan Coben
That happens to me too.

message 119: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Not Harlan Coben . . .

message 120: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Good guess Myra as I do indeed have an issue spelling his name, but, I was old enough to drive the year this came out (1994 - I got my drivers licence in December of 1993)

I did a quick review of all 101 members and one person has read this book already (and given it 5 stars) and one person has it marked TBR. Note: I do not have it marked TBR.

Wow 101 people is still a lot for a quick review. Lol! Only one person has read it? Wow! Let's see, does the one person who has it marked TBR making comments here? ;)

message 123: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments How about Scott Turow?

If the group gets too much bigger, that will be something much more difficult to check!

Looks like the person who has read it has never made a comment on this thread.

I have to say - I am excited by so many people participating in this and that it has been a bit more challenging this time. I like coming up with clues!

message 129: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments John Lescroart?

I'm just taking random guesses now. Lol!

No . . . no . . . and no - but all hard to spell! I never realized there were so many hard to spell authors out there!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Another clue: Generally this author's work is considered humorous

message 132: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Chuck Palahniuk?

Sorry if my guesses are off the mark. I'm at work, so quickly flipping back and forth, so can't check our fearless leader's shelves!

The hottest answer so far . . . but would I go so far as to do a strip tease?

But - that is a difficult name to spell . . . and I have read other books by him . . . and I didn't say yet it wasn't Carl . . . could this be Josen's month? Keep going! :)

The first message has been altered to reflect the current standings:

Standings so far:

Myra: 2.5
Michelle: 1
Richard: 1

Note: The Myra and Josen 0.5 are for the photo finish on our March 2017 pick.

Let the April 2017 guessing commence!

First hint: This is a big one!

message 150: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I take that pick back. I see you already read it.

My new pick is

The Nix by Nathan Hill

It has a lot of pages and I think that is what you mean by a big book.
