Monthly Book-a-Book Selection - Guess the Pick

Glad you are interested in the selection! :)

Side note: I think this might be the first time I picked a book that no one in the group has read yet!
Story of Your LifeI've also read Tower of Babylon.
He's a terrific writer, along the same lines as Philip K. Dick. Almost always a twist of some sort.
Ooooh-I can't wait! I saw Arrival when it came out in the theatres and have been interested in reading Ted Chiang ever since! Looking forward to this one.
Time to guess the March 2017 selection.
First hint: The genre of the book is mystery/crime fiction
Happy guessing!

Hey Myra! If one of the characters has the same last name as me, I am not aware of it (it is not the book I recently added to my TBR where the main character has the same last name as me).
Next hint: It is not a recent release - I was not old enough to drive yet when this came out, but it was during my lifetime.

Oooo.......I'm reading Koko now.....really good! Umm.......is the setting present day of when the book came out?
Not Koko . . . but a good guess!
I would guess, based on the description, that the setting in the book is somewhat contemporary for when it was released.
Another hint - I have read other books by this author.

I would say that it is a famous author. I am not opposed to doing the first book in a series in this group if it can also stand alone (hope that makes sense).

Hm... is it by one of these authors?
John Grisham
Stephen King
Dean Koontz
Jo Nesbo
More great guesses!
Another hint: I have yet to spell the author's name correctly on my first try. I usually have to type in the title of a book to find it.

Good guess Myra as I do indeed have an issue spelling his name, but, I was old enough to drive the year this came out (1994 - I got my drivers licence in December of 1993)
I did a quick review of all 101 members and one person has read this book already (and given it 5 stars) and one person has it marked TBR. Note: I do not have it marked TBR.

Let's see, does the one person who has it marked TBR making comments here? ;)

If the group gets too much bigger, that will be something much more difficult to check!
Looks like the person who has read it has never made a comment on this thread.

Josen wrote: "How about Scott Turow?"
Not Turow - I have never read any of his, but I have been meaning to!

I have to say - I am excited by so many people participating in this and that it has been a bit more challenging this time. I like coming up with clues!

I'm just taking random guesses now. Lol!"
Kandice wrote: "Nicholas Pileggi?"
Kandice wrote: "Richard Matheson?"
No . . . no . . . and no - but all hard to spell! I never realized there were so many hard to spell authors out there!

Chuck Palahniuk?Sorry if my guesses are off the mark. I'm at work, so quickly flipping back and forth, so can't check our fearless leader's shelves!

...........Carl Hiaasen"
The hottest answer so far . . . but would I go so far as to do a strip tease?
But - that is a difficult name to spell . . . and I have read other books by him . . . and I didn't say yet it wasn't Carl . . . could this be Josen's month? Keep going! :)

We have a winner . . . I think I am going to have to give this a double victory, though. Josen was so involved in getting here that I cannot discredit her commitment!

Hahahaha!! Aw that's awfully generous of you Matthew! Thanks! :)
Myra wrote: "Give it all to Josen. She did most of the work!"Hahaha!! Thanks Myra but no.....you did pick the correct one. :)
I take that pick back. I see you already read it. My new pick is
The Nix by Nathan Hill
It has a lot of pages and I think that is what you mean by a big book.
