Josen wrote: "Are you referring to Bird Box? You know I can't believe we read that LAST December! Geez time flies! So IF that's what you're referring to is the genre a thriller?.......would that be considered horror? "

You are very astute Josen - you picked up my hint very well!

Perhaps Thriller/Horror??? ;) I mean, aren't most horror books thrillers?

message 52: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Lol yes horror books can be considered thrillers but not the other way around right? Finally I got something right! Yay! Hahaha! Okay, soooo..............is this a new-ish book? Or years old?

Myra wrote: "Is it Dracula vs. Hitler"

Oh, dang! It actually almost was . . . that is a great guess! I looked at that one long and hard but decided on another one . . .

message 55: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Hmmm.........okay, let's see what can I ask.........is it a popular author in that genre? Like a Koontz? Or someone a little more obscure?

message 56: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
It is a more obscure author

message 57: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Only 8 of my friends have read it and it did come out in 2016.

message 58: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments Myra wrote: "My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix"

I just finished that recently and thought it was very well done. Super nostalgic. Maybe even more so than Ready Player One.

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Another great guess! I will say that the selection has never been a nominee for a Goodreads Choice Award.

message 60: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
Another hint - the author's first and last names start with the same letter.

message 61: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (artemitch) Is it Children of the Dark by Jonathan Janz?

message 62: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
WE HAVE A WINNER! Congrats Michelle - Children of the Dark is our January 2017 selection.

Thanks to everyone for playing! :)

message 63: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments I don't even guess anymore, I just want you brainiacs figure it out!

Does anyone use Abe Books? I discovered it recently and they are super cheap. Going there now to buy Children of the Dark.

Ummm...maybe not. Cheapest one is $17 and the ebook is $18. I'll request it at the library, though. :)

Lol!! I'll keep guessing but I'm just not quick enough. Everyone is great at just picking titles. I think I'm more a 20 Questions person. Lol! :)

That's a good one, Myra, or even one guess per clue. However, I suppose I am kinda sporadic with clues and often give more than one at a time.

message 70: by Michelle (last edited Dec 11, 2016 11:17PM) (new)

Michelle (artemitch) I've actually never heard of the book or the author before ... I guess I just knew where to look ;) [I hope where I looked doesn't count as cheating or something, lol]

message 74: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments I want to read Bird Box, so maybe in 2017?

message 75: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I am pretty sure this group already read that one.
You definitely should read it. I loved it.

message 76: by Vicki Willis (new)

2) Seize the Night by Dean Koontz"

Nice guesses - both books I hope to read some day!

However, not the correct genre or format. I know your 3 guesses is your own restriction, so feel free to do more than that! :)

Omg yes! Go to the library or bookstore and check it out. The whole thing about Illuminae is the format. It's written through emails, messages, schematics, dossiers, the layout of the writing.......totally cool!

DAAAAAAANG! You are good! It is a short story collection . . . and a movie was based on one of them (which was close with a book based on a movie) and that is THE CORRECT ANSWER!

You are good, Myra - I will have to start making this harder!

message 100: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 944 comments In addition to the movie Arrival, there is an episode of the series Black Mirror based on a short story by Chiang. I don't know if it's included in this collection, but anyone who is interested, let me know, because I have a PDF I could email you.
