Brandy (brandywoods) | 6 comments I'm trying to remember the name of a teen book series from probably 1990-'95. It was mild horror/dark fantasy/paranormal romance, IIRC, about a group of teens getting involved in Voodoo. I remember Baron Samedi and people being ridden by the loa. ... but that's about all I remember. :)

Any help much appreciated!

Brandy (brandywoods) | 6 comments Anna, I don't think that was it... I don't remember ever having read V.C. Andrews. Thanks for the suggestion, though! :)

julia (rathoutgrabe) | 12 comments In Darkness? By Nick Lake? It's about a boy trapped in a hospital after the earthquake in Haiti. Not the right time period, really. But the plot sounds similar.

Brandy (brandywoods) | 6 comments Jenna, don't think so. It SEEMS like the main character was a girl. But thanks. :)

Dee Villamere-brown | 8 comments Brandy!!! I am also looking for the same series I believe!! I read it when I was about 12/13 but couldnt get the last book...I hate leaving things unfinished lol so now I'm trying to find them too...If it's the one I'm looking for, its about a young girl who goes to live with her aunt in New Orleans, and she meets two brothers, one is nice and the other is dangerous. She ends up in this voodoo cult like club that meets secretly at midnight...and yes they do get "possessed" by Baron Samedi, and Erzulie etc...Hopefully someone knows what series this is!

Dee Villamere-brown | 8 comments I also remember there's something fishy with her aunt, and about placing a lit candle in the window...that it means something...Christ why does my brain not remember stuff?

Brandy (brandywoods) | 6 comments Dee! Yes, your summary does sound familiar! I don't remember the candle but that doesn't mean anything, as long as it's been -- I was about the same age as you at the time. I've looked at a bunch of book lists about books set in Louisiana, teen stories about voodoo, etc., but weirdly it almost seems to not exist! Hopefully we'll find it sooner or later!

Dee Villamere-brown | 8 comments I also found this in another forum for finding books...its unanswered tho: I read this book in the mid-'90's. I'm thinking between '94-'96, but won't guarantee it! The main character, a teenage girl, moves to New Oreans with her aunt after her parents die in a car 'accident'. Her mother had walked away from voodoo, because they were a very powerful family. The mother should have been the priestess, but her sister was just 'filling in', the teenage girl moves in and works hard to learn all she can about voodoo. She learns there is a good side and a bad side to all voodoo. During a voodoo party, Baron Samedi possesses someone and tells her to take a bottle of alcohol to this crossroads. She makes a deal with the 'bad side' of voodoo, so that these bad guys won't kill her aunt. Anyway, she makes three friends while she's there, one is a girl, I think her name is Melony or something. The other two friends are a set of twin boys. The one says he has sworn off voodoo because it killed his parents, however he is really the leader of the 'bad voodoo' group, a group of Loups Garou. The other twin has no idea that his brother is a bad guy, but they don't get along very well. He, however, is a member of the aunts group of voodoo people. The girl buys a diary and pours her heart and soul into it and the girl friend and the bad twin steals her diary and uses it to somehow turn her against the good voodoo. The girl becomes a loup garou, the aunt gets turned into a zombie. I forget a lot that was in the middle but, in the end the girl and the twins drive off in the aunts green convertible, and the girl friend is flying above them in the sky, following everywhere they went

I found this, which seems to be the third book in a series that might be it....I'll keep looking to see if I can find book one.Dance of Death

Edit: Magic at the Crossroads -- I think this is the first book in the Dark Hearts series.

And to complete the set: Tears of Blood is book two.
