Brandy Woods is an award-winning illustrator and intuitive who specializes in Native American-inspired and fantasy themes. A distant ancestor was Choctaw (Chahta) and Brandy was raised with a deep love and respect for the First Nations. She went back to school in her 30's and graduated with honors (and two scholarships!) from Dawson College's prestigious Illustration and Design program. She grew up in Louisiana and spent much of her childhood reading Wendy Pini's 'ElfQuest', as well as numerous books on mythology, shamanism, fantasy, and other cultures. Her goal has always been to illustrate books, and inspire a new generation of dreamers. ...more

Read whatever you can get your hands on that interests you, and even some things that DON'T interest you, so you'll know. Get a spellchecker. Learn how to phrase and structure a sentence. How and how NOT to develop characters. Show, don't tell. Devouring other books will form a solid base for you to throw into your imagination blender. (That... for example, sounded better in my head.) You can't write well, without experience. See what others are doing... and do it your own way. And do your research. ;)(less)

Neil Gaiman
“I lived in books more than I lived anywhere else.”
Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane

John Lennon
“Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.”
John Lennon

Glen Cook
“I was my usual charming morning self, threatening blood feud with anyone fool enough to disturb my dreams.”
Glen Cook, The Black Company

Victoria Schwab
“Kell wore a very peculiar coat.
It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.
The first thing he did whenever he stepped out of one London and into another was take off the coat and turn it inside out once or twice (or even three times) until he found the side he needed. Not all of them were fashionable, but they each served a purpose. There were ones that blended in and ones that stood out, and one that served no purpose but of which he was just particularly fond.”
V.E. Schwab, A Darker Shade of Magic

Ransom Riggs
“It had become one of the defining truths of my life that, no matter how I tried to keep them flattened, two-dimensional, jailed in paper and ink, there would always be stories that refused to stay bound inside books. It was never just a story. I would know: a story had swallowed my whole life.”
Ransom Riggs, Library of Souls
