StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree waved off her feelings and smiled at Arlin. "It's fine," Bree said, "It was five years ago. I'm doing alright." She flashed Arlington a smile that was super broad, trying to make her laugh. "See?" she laughed.
She didn't like when people worried over her, so she tried not to make them.

message 52: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin gave her a smile, moving her hand back. "Well, of yore sure." She said, slightly sarcastic. "Well, he's a nice car."

message 53: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Thank you," Bree said. She turned into her neighborhood and pointed to a smallish house at the end. "That ones mine." She said, hoping Arlington wouldn't judge her.

message 54: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington nodded. "Awesome!" she chirped, bouncing a little. She liked meeting new people, so this would e fun for her. Assuming any of Bree's family were home.

message 55: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree pulled into the driveway and put McKay in park. Turning off the car, she turned to look at Arlington. "My mom and dad are both at their jobs, so it's just me and my puppy for now," Bree said, smiling. "She's a little baby pitbull. She'll be two months old in a week. Her name's Lizzy." Bree opened the door and grabbed her stuff. "Come on in!" she said, grinning. She was a little excited, considering she hadn't done this in a while.

message 56: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington nodded, "Okay," she said as she opened her door. "Oh, you have a dog? I can't have pets 'cause my mom's allergic." She made a face, her nose scrunched up. "I love dogs, though."

message 57: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Good," Bree laughed, walking up to her front door. "Because she's gonna love you too." Bree opened the door and, just as predicted, Lizzy barreled across the wood floor towards Arlin, trying to jump up and lick her, but sadly, only reaching her knee.

message 58: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin dropped to her knees, her backpack sliding off her arm, reaching out to gather the puppy into her arms. "Oh my god, she's so cute!" she said, laughing as the dog wiggled on her lap.

message 59: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree laughed as she watched Lizzy wriggle in Arlington's lap. "Alright, Lizzy bee, lets go out!" Bree said in a singsong voice. At the word "out", Lizzy jumped from Arlin's lap and rushed to the back door. Bree slid open the glass sliding door and let Lizzy scurry into the backyard, sliding it closed again.

message 60: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington laughed as she watched the dog. She got to her feet, picking up her backpack. Now she felt a little awkward, she never knew how to act in other people's houses.

message 61: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree waved her hand vaguely towards her couch. "You can go ahead and set your stuff down," she said, walking towards the fridge. "Want something to eat?" She asked, reaching for the handle.

message 62: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington went to sit, nodding. "Sure. What do you guys have?" She sat on the couch and put down her bag, looking around more. It was a nice house, really.

message 63: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree opened the fridge and looked around. "Well, we have leftover pizza, some eggs, and bunch of 'exotic' foods my dad brings home," Bree laughed. "It's kind of a long story. He loves trying weird foods, so..." Bree surged and took out the box of pizza. "Pizza?" she asked in Arlin's direction.

message 64: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington nodded. "Sounds good to me." She leaned forward, elbows on her knees and chin in her hands. "Do you like trying new things?" she asked, trying to learn more about Bree.

message 65: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree put four slices on a glass plate and put it in the microwave for a minute or so. She went over and sat by Arlington, simply sinking into the plush couch. "Kind of. I haven't really done anything super new for... Well, a while, I suppose. I tend to stay within myself..." Bree blushed, not really liking to admit that she was an introvert...

message 66: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "That's okay," Arlin said. "Nothing wrong with that." She bounced on the couch a little. "So. What do you like to do?"

message 67: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Well," Bree said, thinking, "I love music with all my heart. Singing and piano and such." Bree smiled, remembering the songs she'd written a few years back.

message 68: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments ((Sorry for the weird space replies on both threads by the way...))

message 69: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) ((it's all good!))

"Really? That's super cool." Arlington leaned a little closer unconsciously. "So you play piano? How long?" She didn't play any instruments herself, she wasn't talented enough for that.

message 70: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Since I was about eight years old, I think. I almost quit once, but me and my dad had this long talk about growing old and regret and stuff," said Bree, remembering vividly the talk. It hadn't been a bad talk, but it had definitely changed her outlook on motivation music-wise. "What about you?" Bree asked, curious now, "What do you like to do?"

message 71: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "That's pretty cool," Arlin said, "I wish I could play piano. Or anything, really. But I don't have the patience to learn." She tilted her head back, thinking. "Um, I like books? Does that count?"

message 72: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree grinned. "Of course it does!" she said happily. "I love books too! What do you like to read?" she asked, excited now. She likes something that I like, too! she thought, elated.

message 73: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin's grin grew wider at that. "Oh, I like everything! Mostly mystery books, they're so much fun. I like to guess the solution. What kind of books do you like?"

message 74: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Same here," Bree said, grinning. "Wanna come see some of the books I have?" She asked, biting her lip slightly, forgetting about the pizza in the microwave momentarily.

message 75: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington nodded. "Sure! But uhhh... Shouldn't you get the pizza?" She pointed into the kitchen, laughing a little bit. She'd forgotten it too, actually, and had remembered suddenly.

message 76: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Oh yeah," Bree said, blushing. She stood up and went to retrieve the pizza, then brought it back to Arlington. "Here," she said, "You can follow me." Bree started walking upstairs, anticipating the cozy smell of her room. (It always smelled like apple pie for some weird reason...)

message 77: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington took the pizza with a quick thank you, and followed Bree up the stairs. As she walked into the room, she was startled by the smell of apple pie that hit her as soon as she opened the door. "Wow, it smells good in here..." she said.

message 78: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree flicked on the light and dumped her things on the bed. "Thanks," she said grinning. She started opening her closet/bookshelf while she spoke, "I'm actually not sure where the smell comes from, it's been in here for as long as I can remember. I've lived her since I was four." she finished.

message 79: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "Really?" Arlin took a bite of the pizza. "So you have no idea why it smells that way? That's so weird." She shook her head. "You've lived here for a long time."

message 80: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Yeah," Bree said, taking out a small stack of books, "I think it's just kind of a childhood smell that maybe I used to smell like, then it just... Bled into the room," she bit her lip, pausing. "If that makes sense at all." she laughed.

message 81: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "Oh, maybe." Arlin settled on the floor, not sure where else to sit. She didn't want to impose, and it was a little awkward to ask. "I wonder how, though. Like, is your room magic? Because that'd be awesome if it was."

message 82: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree laughed a little. "That would be amazing if my room was magic," she said lightheartedly. "Here, come sit on my beanbag." she said, plopping down on her huge beanbag, then patting the spot next to her, books on her lap.

message 83: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington wasted no time getting up and joining Bree on the beanbag. "Wouldn't it?" she asked. "Like, that'd be the best thing ever. You could do all kinds of things with a magic room." She took another bite of pizza and motioned to the books. "So what you got?"

message 84: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree smiled at Arlin, momentarily grateful for her open-mindedness and... Well, she couldn't put it to words, but she liked Arlington's lightheartedness. It was a fantastic change to what Bree was used to. She pulled out her stack of books. "Well," she began, "Speaking of magic stuff, I love Harry Potter," she said laying a few of those books on the floor next to the beanbag. "I've always had kind of a soft spot for romance," she said, laying a few romance novels next to herself, between her and Arlington, "And I love suspense stuff." she said finally, leaving those last books on her lap.
Bree got an idea suddenly, but waited for Arlington to speak so she could say it. I'm being such a chatterbox, she thought, No need to chase her away with my endless talking...

message 85: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "Gotta love Harry Potter." Arlington said, leaning over and running her hands over the books on the floor. Say what you will about how weird it was, but Arlin loved the feel - and smell - of books. There was just something about them that she loved. "You've got a pretty good collection." she said with a laugh.

message 86: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Thanks," Bree said with a smile. "So," she said a little nervously, "What time do you have to be home?" Bree did that nervous biting-her-lip thing for the thousandth time that day...

message 87: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington checked her watch - yes she actually wore a watch - to see the time. "Not till five." she said. "I have plenty of time. My parents are pretty lenient, as long as I'm home for dinner and don't get into trouble."

message 88: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "Well," Bree started, "Is there a way you maybe want to stay here until then and read with me? You don't really have to talk... You can choose any book off my shelf and just read here on my beanbag with me," Bree realized what she just said and instantly backtracked. "Um, not like, romantic or anything cause that would be weird." She scoffed, trying very hard to play off her feelings, but absolutely failing. Unless, of course, you want to... she thought longingly.

message 89: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "Sure," Arlin said with a grin. She frowned at the little comment, though. "That's not weird at all." she said. "Seriously. Not weird."

message 90: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree looked at her in surprise. "Wait... Really?" Bree asked, almost not daring to hope... Is... Is that why she's being so nice to me? Is she a lesbian too? Bree thought, heart beating at a million miles a second...

message 91: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin shrugged. "Yeah. Obviously. If I thought being romantic with girls was weird, I'd have a lot of thinking to do, you know?" she laughed, not even bothering to think that Bree might not know that about her. She was used to everyone knowing, because she really didn't care what others thought.

message 92: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree had no clue what to feel. She's... like me...
"So... You... Like girls?" Bree asked, trying to clarify that she was not, in fact, dreaming this miracle...

message 93: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin nodded, laughing a little. "Uh, yeah. Yes. I like girls. A lot." She bit her lip to keep from saying that she might like Bree. "I mean, if you're not okay with that..." She hoped Bree wasn't one of those people.

message 94: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "No, no, that's perfect!" She said, a little too quickly. "Well, I mean," she continued, backtracking, "Not 'perfect' I guess, but, I mean, um... Well, I don't have a problem with that. I still like you. I mean-" Bree sighed, very upset with herself. "I'm so sorry." She finished, half-laughing, burying her face in her hands in complete and total emabarrassment...

message 95: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) "Hey, it's okay." Arlin put an arm around her comfortingly. "I'm glad you're not weird about it."

message 96: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree laughed shortly. "Well, on the contrary, I am acting very weird, so I apologize for that," Bree said, sitting up. "What I'm trying to say is that... I'm the same way... About girls. I just never thought I'd meet anyone who was like that, too..."

message 97: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlington brightened as realization dawned. "Oh! Oh that's great!" She shook her head. "Sorry, I'm just excited." Excited that my growing crush on you isn't on a straight girl, she thought.

message 98: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments "That's fine," Bree managed to happily stutter, "I mean, this is... Kind of a refreshing experience for me." Bree laughed, then realized that she'd started to shake ever so slightly. She stuffed her hands in her lap to try to huide it, and gave Arlington what she hoped was a friendly smile.

message 99: by Ema (new)

Ema (gee-fiera) Arlin giggled. "That's all right," she said. "I'm guessing you're not..." She paused, looking for the right phrasing. "Out?"

message 100: by StellaBlue (new)

StellaBlue (thatgingertho) | 574 comments Bree shook her head and bit her lip again. "No," she took a deep breath. "My parents are huge homophobes, and a few years ago, I got played by a girl who stole my heart... Some boy caught a picture of us kissing and plastered it all around school. She moved at the end of the year and I was left to deal with the stupid people around me by myself. I haven't had too many friends since." Bree exhaled when she had finished speaking, and nervously brushed a stray hair out of her face.
