Jessica | 88 comments I checked my read list but couldnt seem to find this book i know i've read. I don't remember exactly how it went down but for some reason the heroine was the reason the hero went to jail...either she said something that put him there or failed to give exonerating testimony...maybe it was her parents fault? I think they'd been friends beforehand...maybe were from opposite side of the tracks. fastforward some time later he's out of jail she's returning to town. She ends up crashing her car (pretty sure it was in a swamp but may have just been a lake). As best i recall this was the first in a line of incidents because someone was after her and he ended up keeping her safe. I think he worked in some sort of bar or restaurant and i know he had a decent sized family- either brothers or cousins that were all unhappy about them being together because of his jail time. I'm pretty sure i read this on one of the now defunct "netflix for books" type sites. Any help would be appreciated!

Jessica--when did you read this?
What genre was it--romance, PNR, romantic suspense, romantic mystery? Do you think it was part of a series with different mc's (the rest of the H's family finding their hea's or maybe the h's?) Any memory of the cover (although I'm not going to hold you to anything with this, since I too read a great many ebooks, and the covers don't stick with those.)

Jessica | 88 comments i read it within the last 3 years though i cant speak to when it was written. i would classify it as romance though im not positive that's what genre it would be put in. Maybe romantic suspense but since i dont remember the details of the heroine's problems i cant be sure. Definitely not paranormal/fantasy at all it was strict contemporary and no military for the MCs at least. I didn't read any other books with the same characters but it still might have been a series i'm not sure but i lean towards not a series. no clue as to the cover...those ebooks are hell on the memory lol. I'm almost certain i read it on one of those subscription sites (i.e. oyster) but now they've all shut down so i cant access my history on them

I sometimes get the h/H's mixed up. So as a reminder -- "h (heroine) puts H (hero) in jail but ends up relying on him to keep her safe"

Jessica, where does she first see him after returning to her hometown -- where she crashes the car or at his bar/restaurant?

message 5: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 88 comments where she crashes...he doesn't realize who she is until after he rescues her

Jessica | 88 comments no that's not it. i'm pretty sure in the blurb it says something about how he thinks his jail time is her fault for whatever reason. def not ya maybe na but i want to say it was closer to mid 20's rather than college age...though i cant be sure

Murderous Lies by Chantel Rhondeau?

Any chance she's the lawyer or cop/detective who put him in jail/prison?

Was he falsely accused of a serious crime like murder?

Possibly Tanya Holmes' Within Temptation (Sons of Temptation, #1) by Tanya Holmes

I like Beebs' suggestion of Within Temptation better - after scanning the preview on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Within-Temptation-Sons...

The story opens with the heroine being struck by a car on a snowy day. The hero, just out of jail, is standing nearby and runs to try and save her.

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 88 comments I don't think it is any on that list and i also checked another list...characters accused/convicted or something like that. It's not murderous lies. She wasn't law enforcment or a lawyer...i believe she either testified or failed to testify or something like that if i recall it happened in their late teens 18/19 and i think theyd been friends before. I don't recall the crime...i'm tempted to say it was rape and maybe she'd blacked out and her parents pointed the finger or something...but its also possible i read that in another book or made it up entirely. Though within temptation is on my to read list thats not it either. She doesnt get hit by a car she and her car end up in water-i think a swamp but maybe a lake. She might've fallen asleep at the wheel and gone over and he sees and jumps in to save her not realizing who it is till theyre back on shore

Oh right, you mentioned the heroine is driving her car.

Amanda | 109 comments This possibly sounds like it could be "Worthless" by Linda Kage (sorry can't post link on my mobile), the details don't line up perfectly but there is a hero who was jailed because of heroine. When he gets out he ends up working at the same bar as the heroine where some unknowns are trying to kill/harm her and he starts protecting her.

Nela (nelikne) | 472 comments Worth It by Linda Kage (the author changed her mind about the title, from Worthless to Worth it) for Amanda's suggestion.

Jessica | 88 comments Hmm i dont think thats it. I try to avoid books with gorgeous covers because the characters are almost always too high school drama. i looked at a few chapters on B&N and I don't think my book switched between past and present so much and I don't recall anything about a baby which seems to feature prominently in the first few chapters of this one. i also didnt see the car scene...i might not have been able to go far enough in the sample but i thought it was pretty close to the front of the book

Rachel | 8 comments is it traceless by Debra Webb?

message 16: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 88 comments i dont think so. im like 99% certain the car scene is the first one of the book and we never get any scenes of him in prison that i recall

Rachel | 8 comments Is it til death by Sharon Sala
'Til Death

message 18: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 88 comments I checked the first few pages on amazon and I don't think that's it. the car scene is like the very first one and i dont think there was any cold weather much less a blizzard because i remember one scene where the H was about to have sex outside

no definitely not. reviews mention rape, captivity, forced seduction, and humiliation there was definitely none of that or i wouldn't have finished this book.
