Don't worry ladies I'm sure TUA will be a successful nomination!

I will also just mention that we have 3 non Regency romances that we should consider reading in 2017 as we haven't done them as a group read yet. The Convenient Marriage, The Masqueraders & Beauvallet. I'll be honest & say it won't break my heart if we don't get to The Masqueraders as I found it very muddled.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Amy wrote, “Abigail - Does it sound like I’m trying to but in on Hugo if I offer to buddy read with you?”

Hmm, Hugo might go along with a three-way—we could always ask! There’s certainly enough of him to go around!

Seriously, though, Carol, we should definitely read the ones we haven’t read yet—even The Masqueraders, which I loved as a kid, though less so now (I’m a sucker for cross-dressing; Twelfth Night my favorite Shakespeare play.) The whole Hugo thing is just my riff.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I'm just going to list what I think we have agreed to, then I will start a separate locked thread with the list on for anyone who needs to order their books in advance

Jan - The Black Sheep
Feb - Lady of Quality
Mar - Pistols for Two, Snowdrift
Apr - The Unknown Ajax (?)
May -
June -
July - Month off
Aug -
Sept - A GH mystery
Oct -
Nov -
Dec - month off

Is everyone happy with The Unknown Ajax for April. & for two months off? Is one mystery read enough or do we block in 2? I don't want to fill in the months too far ahead in case The Grand Sophy does get made.

Finally just bear in mind Beauvallet, The Masqueraders & The Convenient Marriage haven't been read yet & if we do a Regency read that will take 2.5 years. : )

message 55: by Susan in NC (new)

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4147 comments Looks good to me, and I'm fine with Unknown Ajax in April. I like Heyer's mysteries so if you'd like to read two of them I'd be up for that as well. I've never read Beuvallet or Masqueraders so I'd be up for those, and I enjoyed Convenient Marriage when I read it long ago, so I would enjoy revisiting that one!

message 56: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I'd vote for adding The Masqueraders and maybe Penhallow or Envious Casca.

message 57: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments List looks fine so far; I have not read Lady of Quality in a little minute.

Oh! I did like Envious Casca, and recently saw it listed in Bas Bleu under a new title, "A Christmas Party." I think there would be a lot of great discussion generated from that story. Although I remember a lot about the story, I did not remember that it took place around Christmas time...

I also forgot the Christmas angle - I was prompted to reread Envious Casca a couple years ago when it was listed with Mischief of the Mistletoe as a Christmas-themed historical mystery in the Shelf Awareness newsletter. I enjoyed it very much, but it's not really holly-jolly Christmasy, is it? Mischief was jolly good fun, though - have to hit the library and borrow that one again soon.

message 59: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Scuitto | 261 comments Was the juxtaposition - adjacent months -- of Black Sheep and Lady of Quality deliberate? Both are set in Bath with a would be independent heroine who is not so young and has a managing family.

Just wondered ...

Yes it was. Discussed in the 2016 thread I think. Spoiler for both books (view spoiler)

Indeed, it is neither holly nor jolly! That must have been what made me forget the Christmas aspect.

Exactly - but I love the deliciously snarky young people at the house party, Heyer writes them and their witty dialogue very well!

message 63: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2190 comments I'd be up for two mysteries as well. Have only read the ones for this group so far and enjoyed them. Any of the others suit me as well. I'd read any of her books any time.

message 64: by Linda (new)

Linda | 131 comments Thanks for posting the tentative schedule, Carol! I do like to plan ahead. :) I've only read a handful of Heyer's books so far, so most of what will be scheduled will probably be new to me.

Excellent. Lady of Quality is one of the books in my stack of Heyer used books I snagged a couple of months ago, so I'm definitely up for that one.

I'm also looking forward to one of Heyer's mysteries, so if there were two scheduled I would not mind at all. :) I quite enjoyed Death in the Stocks.

Jay-me (Janet) | 131 comments I'm ahead as I've just re-read Black Sheep Definitely one of my favourites.
I don't own the next book on the list though, but will get it on kindle by February if I don't find a second hand paperback before then. I don't remember this one at all - if I have read it - it is many years ago.

I'm just reading The Reluctant Widow. I've only read the first chapter and so far it is not familiar at all.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Ok, after comments here (& my own thoughts) I've put a couple of tweaks in.

Jan - The Black Sheep
Feb - Lady of Quality
Mar - Pistols for Two, Snowdrift
Apr -
May -The Unknown Ajax (?)
June - A GH Mystery
July -
Aug -
Sept - A GH mystery
Oct -
Nov -
Dec - month off

I've delayed TUA by a month as non Regency reads here usually don't have the same amount of lively discussion, so I will want to break them up. I've added an extra mystery & gone back to just one month off.

I'll leave this up a couple of days & if no objections I will start a new thread. :)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Looks fine to me! What is the process for filling in the other months?

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Abigail wrote: "Looks fine to me! What is the process for filling in the other months?"

Consensus but I'll be pushing hard for the 3 non Regency historical romances we haven't read yet - & the Grand Sophy if the film is released.

message 72: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2190 comments All looks good to me Carol. I'm easy where GH's books are concerned. I'll read them any time and in any order.

I will make more of an effort to join in the non-regencies this year. I haven't been good about that in the past.

I have an idea for a new avatar too, but I thought I would let people get used to the new name first.

Is there a group read this month?

No group read this month - a catch up month for everyone. But anyone who reading a Heyer we have already discussed is welcome to bring up the old threads. :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Jackie wrote: "looks good, love the new name!"

& I'm back to the old name - for a while anyway.

Anyone else having withdrawal symptoms with no GH read this month? Just me?

I'll be putting up the threads for The Black Sheep a bit early as we are going "up north" to meet what are likely to be my daughter's future in-laws.

Hope everyone else has had a good Christmas. I loved my presents this year - both given & received. :)

Oh no! Never fear, I'm sure it will be a successful visit - and I will send positive karma your way that the traffic will be light...;) Travel safe and have a good weekend.

Really looking forward to diving into "Black Sheep" - one of my first Heyer's read so a sentimental favorite, along with being a lot of fun!

I can't wait to start Black Sheep. I've missed all my friends here!

I am looking forward to Black Sheep

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Aaarrrggghhh, sorry everyone, I hadn't put Lady Of Quality on the to read shelf, so those of you that have selected to receive a GR reminder 7 days before the read starts - well you didn't get it. My apologies. I've been a bit scatty this month!

I did just tell my grandgirl that, much as we're all dying for spring and bare earth, I really hope summer doesn't hit too fast. I don't even care if spring is wet (which is my usual complaint), as long as it warms up a bit! I hope you get some summer before it's too late, Carol!
