MountainKat | 31599 comments Let's reflect on the best and worst of the previous month's books.....

I know I can get so focused on what is next that I forget about all the wonderful books I read for the previous month's challenges! I can't believe it is September already and everyone is back to school! I was gone on the first and am still struggling to wrap my head around another month. Someone needs to slow time down!

Did you find some gems? DNF a few? Find your new book boyfriend or a heroine who personifies TSTL? Come on, we all want to know! What were your standouts for August?

MountainKat | 31599 comments Sorry about getting this up late!

But looking back, I read some good books last month! I loved Unbreak My Heart and Dark Skye! A few other standouts - Fighting Silence (this one stuck with me long after I finished!), Him, Nuts, Strangers in Death (surprise - not!), Lush and Tart.

Only a couple of disappointments, Some Like It Wicked - good, but didn't really work for me, and The Theory of Attraction - this just didn't grab my attention.

Overall, a good month! How about you?

Fran | 12278 comments My favorites of August were Boots Optional and Trust the Focus. Both of those goodies make me want to continue with their series.

I didn't love King Cobra. I didn't feel the connection between the two guys, and their inner dialogue was strangely written. It just didn't work for me.

I had a few other good reads in August, so all in all a good month :)

Creative Caprice | 29 comments My favorites were Hunted on the Fens (5 stars), a mystery suspense that was a total page turner and The Mystery of Nevermore (5 stars) a M/M romance/mystery with amazing characters and a great plot.

My big disappointment was A Rake Reformed (2 stars) a Regency which I was excited to read but it never lived up to the summary for me.

~Melissa~ | 2097 comments Favorites for August were Unleashing the Storm, Night's Honor and Smoke & Mirrors

I didn't enjoy the The Torn Series Bundle series books that revolved around Emma, Bass and Carter. I liked Trista and Taylor's book along with Lindsey and Dimitri's book. Ended up DNF'ing after that as I didn't want to read anymore of the E/B/C drama.

Some other good reads as well

Connie N. | 1316 comments After starting with the 3rd in the Love, Sex & Stiletto series a couple of years ago, I went back to the beginning, then couldn't resist reading the whole series again.

After the Kiss (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #1) by Lauren Layne Love the One You're With (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #2) by Lauren Layne Just One Night (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #3) by Lauren Layne The Trouble with Love (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #4) by Lauren Layne

I also enjoyed beginning a couple of other fun series:
Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley Big Rock by Lauren Blakely

Of course, I'm never disappointed with Eve and Roarke (and the gang):
Purity in Death (In Death, #15) by J.D. Robb Portrait in Death (In Death, #16) by J.D. Robb

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I loved The Tin Box by Kim Fielding ~ but it was a tear-jerker; and How to Walk Like a Man (Howl At The Moon #2) by Eli Easton ~ Eli's dog characterisations into human are superb!

My other 5 starers were The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal by K.J. Charles , A Kind of Truth (A Kind of Stories, #1) by Lane Hayes and Through These Eyes (Blind Faith, #2) by N.R. Walker . All great for completely different reasons.

My less than stellar reads were: Torrid by Morgan Hawke (caught in the writing style of last century) and Of Gods and Monsters Menoetius by Wulf Francu Godgluck (too aggressive).
