After Eli’s mother died, his father honored her life’s mission as a social worker by taking in several kids from the wrong side of the tracks. Not all of them stuck, but those who did became Eli’s quasi family.
Their bonds, forged in fires set by their personal demons, are unbreakable—or so Eli wants to believe. Especially since he and Alanso, his best friend and head mechanic, witnessed the overpowering allure of polyamory while visiting the Powertools crew.
Much as Eli would like to deepen the relationships among his foster brothers and sister in the Hot Rods Restoration Team, he’s hesitant to risk everything on a quick romp behind a stack of tires.
But when Eli catches Alanso exploring their mutual fantasy at a known hookup spot in a public park, all bets are off. And Eli must decide if it’s time to jump in full throttle—and trust his instincts to guide him through the night. If the pair can dodge the potholes in their own relationship, maybe they can race together toward the unconventional arrangement with Mustang Sally they both desire.
Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be a wild (and naughty) ride!

Ever read one of those stories (this is too short to be called "a book) where you wondered what the hell just happened?
King Cobra was that story. There was plenty of sexy M/M action (as well as what I'd call halfhearted M/F/M), but it just read, well, like a textbook primer on writing gay male sex. Really. It was that meh. I just didn't feel much for the characters of Alonso and Eli. Yes, they got together after way too much angst, but that was it.
The big problem is that this story is part of that dratted "series" bullshit that seems to be all the rage in the romance genre. There were a bunch of characters named who were obviously part of another series and that kind of thing drives me nuts. I like self-contained books, and definitely books the size of door stops, lol. And if it is a series, I need for it to be self-contained, rather than an unsubtle attempt at getting me to read a whole 'nother set of books.
Having said that, this was a quick sexy read because there are times one just wants a quick sexy read. But I don't plan on the rest of the series until the whole thing comes out in one whole book and not nickel and dimed with a bunch of short stories/novellas.
WOW! Holy Hotness! Have you seen this King Cobra cover? So, I’ve been holding out to read Jayne Rylon. I’m totally slapping myself in the head over it. I heard about her Powertools books five books into the series. Does this happen to you? When you know the stories will be good but you’ll need to block off time to read 5-15+ books to get up to speed? So you push that to the bottom of the TBR because, who has the time!? I’m very guilty of this, there are loads of books I’ve never started (even bought!) because I didn’t think I’d have time to get through all the backlist. So when I saw on Jayne’s newsfeed about her NEW Hot Rods series **DING DING** perfect time to read some Jayne!
Didn’t hurt it’s about REAL men who happen to be gearheads, because this is storyline I can instantly relate to. Throw in some Latin flair -Florida-Cuban in this case- I’m sold. You know I have weakness for Spanish in the bedroom!
I believe this series is slight spin-off to her Powertools series, as the characters from one series to another are cousins. This didn’t bother me, and I didn’t feel at all lost or missing important back stories. Because these books chronologically take place after the Powertools stories there maybe some mild spoilers, but for me it didn’t detract from either, and I still look forward to reading her Powertools, maybe more so now that see how damn steamy they must be!.
The stars of our story are Eli and Alanso. Friends since they were kids, now co-workers at Eli’s family garage/auto body business the men are struggling with both a friends-to-lovers challenge and questioning their sexuality. Eli is the type to look at the situation from all sides weighing the pros and cons, and Alanso is just sick of waiting. Getting these two to their HFN moment was rich with emotion and HOT sex…. (like super naughty and full of all the details!!)
Let me just say Jayne can melt the words off your ereader they’re so hot. *whew* I love her writing and I will certainly be reading every book she puts out in this series. The heat level of this book is off the charts. The main story line for King Cobra is M/M, however we know this series as whole will have polyamory themes, and I want to make sure you’re aware of that going in. I’m completely turned on by the series as a whole and was frustrated when I couldn’t just go download and read Mustang Sally (next up)… see this is the FLIPSIDE to getting in on the first book, you have to WAIT for next one!! I’m such a reader paradox!
Wow! Jayne Rylon has done it again. King Cobra is book one in the HOT RODS series. Kind of a spin off from the Power tools series. The series is about a group of mechanics led by Eli London. In one of the Power Tools series books Eli and Alanso another of the mechanics visit the crew and get a eyeful of how their relationships work. Ever since then things have been tense between the two mechanics. It finally comes down to embracing what might be or possibly losing what they have. This book is sizzling hot erotica, down and dirty. Be warned a head of time. There is a lot of history between the member of this group. Eli's dad took each one under his wing and helped them get to be where they are now and Eli became their leader and is very protective of them all. All the mechanics are introduced in this book but the main focus is Alanso and Eli and a little of Sally. I think this series is a going to be a slow burn that gets hotter and hotter as you read! 4 out of 5 stars for King Cobra by Jayne Rylon.
Jayne's books are not for the faint of heart--they ooze such highly charged erotic scenes to literally melt your eyeballs.
I was a fan of her Powertools Series which contained sizzling sex, as well as an emotional punch to the solar plexus. Her heroes are drool worthy, loyal, and sweet for the women in their lives.
And it looks like Jayne will be spinning another sensual series with the Hot Rods.
Eli and Alanso pay a visit to Joe ( a character from the Powertools series--and cousin to Eli) and are shocked at the poly-amorous relationship that the crew have with their wives. This highly unusual relationship works for them and the love between them is evident.
But watching a sensual scene between some of the crew, leaves Eli wondering if such a relationship can exist between the men and one woman that work at his garage.
Eli has felt a stirring of sexual attraction for the sexy Cuban, Alanso, but the others of their elite group are like brothers and a sister to him. Can he risk starting something between all of them and risk losing them all?
Despite Eli's sexual frustration he refuses to act on his desires. That is, until Alanso throws down with others and Eli is left watching.
Holy. Sh*t. Cakes. Erotic doesn't begin to cover the steamy scenes in this novella. But let's not leave out the closeness between these people. It's not a free-for-all of open sexy times without any emotions.
Eli, Alanso, and the others have grown up together and have been close almost their whole lives. They have stood by each other, working side by side and the bonds of friendship and love for one another is strong.
But when Eli and Alanso finally come together in one night of passion, someone will get hurt and run away--leaving Eli and Alanso determined to get their woman back. By their side, in their bed. Where she rightfully belongs.

Until this point the audio books of Jayne's that I've been listening to are books that I've already read, but I hadn't gotten around to the Hot Rods series yet so I'm very excited to listen to them now. I have this thing about reading blurbs and I generally don't bother when the books are from my go to authors so I didn't know much about this book going in other than it was loosely related to the Powertools Crew. I knew from the Powertools series that the shop was looking for something similar to the crews relationship but I wasn't sure what it was going to be. This one starts us off with Eli and Alanso. Eli is fighting with everything he has and Alanso is tired of hoping for more. After some seriously hot stranger sex in the park (seriously folks it happens lol) Eli comes to his senses and admits his feelings to Alanso. They do something I really don't like, but in the end they don't enjoy it so that helped a little, and leads us to the cliffhanger. Ok cliffhanger may not be the best word for it, but it does leave us hanging a bit. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Alanso and Eli unfold. It's clear there has been sexual tension between the two for a while now, but Eli was so worried about keeping his family together that he almost tore it apart. Once Eli lets go of his fears the relationship between these two is the perfect combination of hot and sweet. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for Mustang Sally to release in audio so I can find out what happens next. My heart is hurting for her right now and I want her to find some happiness.
I'm sorry but I just think I wasn't the right audience for this. I want to say that I really liked the writing style* of the author and especially Gregory Salinas' narration. He made me enjoy the story so much more thanks to the way he characterized each character. That said, I thought the stakes were too high considering what the characters were going through. It just seemed too overly dramatic and I couldn't take it that seriously. However, I really did feel the bond between those characters. Maybe I'll try something else from this author.
*I have to say, it reminded me so much of vintage books like Gay Whore and To Want a Boy even for some of the situations she put the characters in!
From the second I saw the cover I knew I wanted to read this story--No. NEEDED to read this story--It reminded me of Fast And Furious movies, and I love those. Muscles and oil. Yeah. Oh yeah.
I patiently, erm not so much, waited for KING COBRA to release and then devoured it on release day! Today (day after release day), I raced to find a pre-order option for the second book in the series MUSTANG SALLY.
Five stars? No way! This is six stars. Seven stars. Frick. This novella was beyond awesome.
So why was it so brilliant? Because it was clear from the get-go that Ms. Rylon knows some stuff about hot rods and cars and all that stuff and she writes with such depth and a rawness that really dragged me into her Hot Rods world which is so very masculine and hot and greasy and fast and... vroom vroom!
I am not a usual m/m reader - but that didn't get in the way of my enjoyment of this friends to lovers story. KING COBRA is deep, emotional, hard, and damned HAWT.
4/18/13 LOVE! LOVE! this book. Can't wait for the next one. I've slowly become a m/m fan, not that I avoided it, I just didn't seek it out specifically. This book has sealed my m/m fandom.
When I finished the book, I initially thought.. hmm, I wanted more .. more involvement from the other characters.. but I now realize this was about Al and Eli and their relationship and dealing with their feelings and conflicts they had within themselves (and the setup for future books in the series)
You dont need to read the Powertools series first, but you should, if only because they are great books :-)
4/16/13 I really liked the powertools series, and look forward to reading this one.
Whew Al and Cobra are just HOT!!! Eli was reluctant to stir the pot with his desires for the Hot Rods, but Al is just done waiting for him to make up his mind after their encounter with the Crew. Once these two get their act together though, watch out because the heat between them is going to scorch you! This was a great start to a new series, and I am definitely looking forward to how the story is going to progress. I have to say that Mustang Sally cannot come fast enough!
4 stars. Yes, I know one reviewer must say I am crazy for giving 4 stars, but read first. The four stars are for the Beautiful Cover, yes, I admitted, I am one of those that look at the cover to see if the story will be good. Saw the cover and I said "Dayum, must read it" and I did.
Okay, here goes, please don't hate me, and I am apologizing now to the author as well to any readers that enjoyed this book. The real rating for me would be 2 stars. I know, I know some of you might say WTF, but everyone has their on opinion right. That is all I can say. Sorry, and I do apologize.
A little too angsty for me, seemed like it was trying too hard. This is the first book in the Powertools spinoff series and if you've read the PT you know everything goes sexually.
After Alanso and Eli visited the PT crew, each started wondering if they could forge something similar with their Hot Rods team. I felt like Eli talked/thought/guilted way too much for it to be enjoyable although once Eli and Alonso got past that, it was ok, at least until they messed up with Sally who they both wanted.
While not fond of m/m stories, I didn't mind this one as much as I thought. The author writes well and is building an interesting series. Sally will be one very satisfied woman! There are several men and one woman working as a family unit and all living together having come together for various reasons. This first book is about how the whole team comes together as a f**k buddy team.
2.5 I just got annoyed with the whole nickname thing. One minute Eli was Cobra, then he was Eli, then he was King Cobra. And this was all in the same paragraph! And I was just kinda let down. The Powertools was so much better. Hopefully Sally's book will be Good.
Damn that was totally hot and a great beginning to a new series. I'm seriously looking forward to Mustang Sally and i am sooo mad i have to wait six more weeks for it.
After reading the Powertools, I want to read the spin-off series. The Hot Rods. Even tho, it has some m/m scenes in it. I am not fond of those scenes. Jayne weaves emotions in the stories. There a lot of emotions in this one. Eli is the leader of the Hot Rods and his dad, Tom had gathered these kids together and took them in as his own. I thought that was cool. I love the Powertools series. The close relationships. The love. The devotion.
Eli and Alanso, one of his crew, had one experience with the Powertools when Dave from the crew had his accident. After that, he has wanting it with his own crew. You will see the Powertools in this one as well. Eli can’t seem to figure out the best plan of action. Alanso has had enough and wants it to. He may just want to figure things out.
This is the first book of this series. I just hope that the second one will be better. I love the closeness of the characters. I did not like the sex scenes. Because they were m/m.
So after reading Powertools, I had to check out the Hot Rods (Not a necessity, but it makes this series much better.) King Cobra loved his adopted brothers and Sally so much that he is afraid to lose them by acting on his too strong of desires he is feeling. The problem, he may lose it all. Eli can't seem to figure out his best plan of action. Alanso has had enough and may just want to figure out things himself. Oh boy! This book got me hooked. I fell in love with the characters and had to read the rest of the series.
I came across this series by accident on sale. I'm glad I did, I'm only just starting this journey with this group of characters and I'm already loving them.
Now mind you this isn't my normal angsty read. It has M/M relations, and it has Other People relations so if any of that turns you off then this probably isn't the book for you. But I loved it and I'm looking forward to go fishing this series.
Eli wants to sleep with some good friends at work, but needs to find Alanso when he leaves in a hurry. Then Eli finds more than he bargained for... There are friends having fun exploring each other in various positions & there’s some talk about what this means to them now.
I got this book as a part of the boxset Tool Time- A Collection of Ménage and Reverse Harem Romances, by Jayne Rylon.
I have had this book in my TBR files, I had got a free copy a long time ago and I hadn't gotten around to reading it till now. This for me was a quick easy read. I will tell you it has a slight cliffhanger ending. I can't wait to see how things end. The story is well written and the characters are awesome. Please remember this is a Ménage story with M/M action so if this isn't to your liking you don't need this one.
I definitely enjoyed this introduction to the spin-off series of the Powertools. It was HOT to say the least! Now, on to book 2 of this series. I am anxious to read more about King Cobra-Eli, Alanso, and Miss Mustang Sally. Of course the rest of their crew as well. A good book that wasn't just about sex. Although, the sex was hot! Looking forward to more hot times from the Hot Rods.
Listened to this on audio book, found the narators voice a bit monotone and struggled to stay engaged. Thought a bunch of hot muscly mechanics working in a greasy garage would be a sexy story, but this was just 'meh' - it was very short and not a lot happened, lots of back story, men having mood swings, and misunderstandings, and little action. The first real action that did happen (the first group outdoor MM scene with strangers) felt grubby rather than sexy. Not my cup of tea.
This one was a fun, smutty read! Eli and Al had a lot to work out and when they did they came together perfectly. There are a lot of characters mentioned in this one that I’m sure will get more detailed stories in the other books of the series, but they felt a little one dimensional. The plot was light, as expected, but I did enjoy watching Eli and Al figure out their feelings and find their way forward. It’s definitely messy and complicated though, and the ending left me with questions.
Off the charts sexy, hot read. Never does Jayne Rylon disappoint, but this series is gonna top it all. Powertools was my intro to this and I thought nothing could top the menage love in that series, but dayum!! This is Blue Flame Hot Sinfully good.
I got the audio for this book for free, but since I wasn’t gelling with the narrators reading of the book I tried to read it instead. The plot was pretty much different than what I expected from when I took a chance on this book. I didn’t hate the book, it just wasn’t for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love polyamorous stories, and getting to be part of the creation of Cobra's stories felt special. I loved how Alanso did not sit around and wait for Eli to stop thinking so much and act on their mutual attraction; he decided he wanted to explore his sexuality, and he did! I was so relieved that his first experience in the park was a fantastic (and hot as hell) night and that he really got to enjoy it. I'm also glad Eli managed to witness it and realise how he feels about Alanso.
From there, the book's heat definitely turns up! I loved Eli and Alanso together, as well as how they were with their Hot Rods Restoration Team, and I really liked Mustang Sally!
The book ends on a cliffhanger for the group HEA, but seeing how Eli navigated his relationship with Alanso, I'm convinced their HEA with Sally is within reach!
I liked Gregory Salinas' narration; it was easy to distinguish between the different characters during scenes with dialogue (and some scenes had quite a few characters), and I was never confused as to who was speaking. Gregory did a great job in his pacing as well, and I was engrossed with the story the whole time.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook for anyone who enjoys this genre!
