Here is my 4 star review of The Retreat
by Sarah Pearse:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Deaths, an island with a history of murder, violence, superstition, child abuse, and a strong storm make this a disturbing and suspenseful story. The world-building was well-done and the premise was excellent.
I finished The Overlook Murder
by Patrick Kelly.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Upgrade by Blake CrouchI hadn't originally intended to read this since it's off of the beaten track for me. But I ended up doing so because I had I received an invitation from the publisher. This was very good, and I need to prioritize more sci-fi thrillers.

I finished Grace Under Fire by Julie Garwood. This one is a pure delight to read with great chemistry and so many laugh out loud moments. 4 Stars My Review.
Dakota Kerry Kennedy’s drama thriller was definitely worth the read. It’s a family drama wrapped into a thriller. The family members all have a dark undertow in their lives and sometimes, that creates drama. It’s when the drama turns tragic and maybe deadly that all the social play and drama play out. The characters were so well developed and their actions so … well… real that it added an extra measure to the enjoyment. I could easily see Dakota as a Lifetime miniseries. Five starts for both Kerry Kennedy and for Dakota. Cheers for the Dakota character. I highly recommend Dakota. Jeff Bailey, author of the conspiracy thriller Not On MY Watch.

My 4.45 --> rounded to 4 stars review of A Cornish Recipe for Murder
by Fiona Leitch:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Fiona Leitch brings a death, a baking show, and some humor to the fifth book in the Nosey Parker cozy mystery series set mainly on the grounds of Boskern House in Cornwall, England. A well-plotted story with characters that feel emotionally rich draws readers in and doesn’t let go until the final word in the book. Overall, this was a story that quickly drew me into Jodie’s world. It was a fun, appealing and entertaining read with a solid mystery to unravel.
This is definitely a fast paced, original thriller. Available on both Edelweiss and NetGalley, 4++ * for

Here is my 3.78 rounded to 4 stars review of Suburban Hell
by Maureen Kilmer:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is what I would call "lite" horror with some dark humor. Overall, this was a well-plotted, moving, and clever story that built momentum, moved well (after the first 3 chapters, created a few startling moments, and built suspense as it moved to its dynamic conclusion and an epilogue that makes one think there will possibly be a second book.
Here is my 4.12 rounded to 4 stars review of A Trip with Trouble: The Mountain Lodge Mysteries
by Diane Kelly:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The setting was perfect for this novel and Ms. Kelly does a great job of transporting readers to the mountains of North Carolina. The story captivated me from the beginning with a good plot, great world-building details, and characters that are emotionally rich.
Sky Curse: The Chosen Five Janet Kravertz’s new book, Sky Curse, is an epic in the George Orwell, 1984 genre, on steroids. In 1984, the government put cameras and microphones in all spaces occupied by people: the ultimate surveillance? Hardly. Sky curse brings the idea into a frightening prediction of our future. Everyone’s brain is connected via Wifi to everyone else’s brain and to all existing computers. Every citizen’s every thought, opinion, perceived sight, and perceived sound is instantly uploaded – everywhere to everyone. AND vice versa. Couple this with Kravetz’s character Cecilia (human, but networked) and her sister, Melee (a networked android) and we have a scary read. Now, Cecilia and Melee are tapped to join a robot and a cyborg to go on a quest to save the dying earth. What could go wrong? How weird can it get? Isaac Asimov would love the ‘I, Robot’ aspect of this adventure. Sky Curse was quite the epic, debut novel. Excellent. Jeff Bailey, author of the conspiracy thriller Not On MY Watch.
Here is my 4.72 rounded to 5 stars review of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches
by Sangu Mandanna:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Sangu Mandanna brings warmth, diversity, and humor to a magical realism novel with romance, danger, and suspense. This is a wonderfully executed story with extraordinary and diverse characters and a setting that came alive. My only quibble is that I wanted more suspense in the novel.
The Blackhouse by Carole Johnstone ⭐⭐⭐.8 https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
Antarctica: Life on the Frozen Continent by Conor Kilgallon was a pretty thorough pictorial essay describing the little known Great White Continent. I liked it a lot because it revived my memories of my visit there. My review -
