Legal / Crime Thriller
2nd book in the Vegas Shadows series
Well-crafterd plot, great characterization, suspenseful
Investigation and Trial
I didn't like the ending. The case is solved, but there's a major situation that is left up in the air. Otherwise, this would have been a 5-star read for me.

Literary Gothic Historical Fiction
This didn't feel like horror to me although others have categorized it as such.
This is great world-building and atmosphere.
I wanted more suspense and danger and a faster pace. It was extremely slow.
I read Cut Off from Sky and Earth by Melissa F. Miller. It is a psychological thriller with flashbacks to incidents in the past. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My Husband's Wife by Carla Kovach sounded like a great premise for a psychological suspense and although it started strongly, I was disappointed by its overall execution.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Children of the Roses

I am a card-carrying fan of Mick Herron's Slow Horses series, and the latest instalment, Clown Town, is terrific! He's such a good writer. This one has real spies, failed spies, and blackmailing pensioner spies.

Please Don't Lie by Christina Baker Kline & Anne Burt is a slow burn of a psychological suspense. Set in an isolated mountain location, it's eerie and unsettling, but the ending seemed rushed after a slow build up.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.39 rounded to 4 stars review of The Iron Storm by Jack Du Brul:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Historical Mystery and Action Thriller
15th book in the Isaac Bell series
Overall, this is a briskly paced and entertaining page-turner that kept me engaged throughout the suspenseful, intriguing, and high stakes historical thriller. The book was terrific and transported this reader into the dark and terrifying world of a historical war. It was a rich assortment of history, politics, espionage, and war brought together with great world-building and an action-filled plot.
So far, I've enjoyed everything I've read by Aussie author Michael Robotham. For many years, he was a journalist in London, a place he knows well, where The White Crow is set. I like the premise of the daughter of a gangster being a young detective. Of course, Philomena's always suspected by both sides of leaking information, but Robotham makes it work.
My review of The White Crow

Here is my 3 star review of Fallen City by Adrienne Young:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Outlier opinion
Fantasy
Book 1 in the Fallen City duology
Dual timelines and dual points of view adversely affected the flow of this story.
While it kept me interested in the outcome, I didn't fully engage with the characters.
On top of that, it has a cliffhanger ending.

As usual, Jodie picks up clues through gossip, luck, and asking the right questions that lead to an array of suspects.
Aussie author Sulari Gentill's Five Found Dead is an entertaining homage to Agatha Christie's famous Murder on the Orient Express - with different twists. 😊
My review of Five Found Dead
Children's book Streetlights in the Dark, is a simplified World War Two escape story about two little kids running and hiding from the Nazis one night. I have summarised the story to give a sense of how the subject is handled. It's out in January.

#grisham fan First ARC from the author.
A different kind of legal thriller.
My review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A recent excellent read is the brand new Legacy, an Aussie outback thriller by a favourite journalist-turned fiction writer, Chris Hammer. I'm developing a soft spot for former journos who seem to understand what matters in a story, how to keep it moving, and tell it well.
My review of Legacy
Here is my 4.0 review of A King's Ransom by Janet Evanovich:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Action-Adventure / Mystery
2nd book in the Gabriela Rose series
Fun, light, and entertaining
Plenty of over-the-top scenarios. If you can just "go with it" and not try to make them something more substantial, it's entertaining.
Character depth improved with this book.
Gabriela is completely different from Stephanie Plum so readers should expect significant differences.
