Late to the party but starting this tonight.
Initial Thoughts:(view spoiler)[Obviously I hope and know that they’ll save Isla, I’m jusy worried how dangerous and more difficult this will be. Not to mention I’m afraid all their enemies are going to join together and pose a formidable and deadly threat against them all. And then there’s Nina, will she be OK, will she face unfortunate and lasting effects from the drug. And I’m a sucker for a romance so I’m hoping the two duos can work out their problems, somehow get their well earned money and live a HEA, even Jesper and Wylan. I’m sure it won’t be too hard.... I hope. 😧 (hide spoiler)]

A few days have passed since the end of Six of Crows and they are approaching the deadline that Wylan's father gave them before he will begin torturing her. Sounds like a great guy, makes me feel so bad for Wylan, he's obviously better off without his father. Can't wait to see what they come up with and what gets in their way. Hope no one dies. And I'm thrilled to see that while Nina is not 100% she doesn't seem to be far gone given the Grisha drugs she took. Still holding out hope for a HEA (hide spoiler)]

Kaz has been just so mean to Kuwait but I think it’s his fear for Inej. He really need to man up and admit his feelings. And ooooooh I was noticing and hoping there would be a thing between Jesper and Wylan and I think may be right. (hide spoiler)]

Ahhh hair pulling, frustrating but so damn good. These bad guys need to go though once and for all. So glad I was right about Wylan and Jesper now if only Kaz could grow a pair an someday kiss Inej. (view spoiler)[ I am really enjoying the start of this book, and I was in the minority with the first book...I thought the beginning of Six of Crows was sooooo slow, and I almost didn't want to finish it :( BUT this one has me hooked!!! I ABSOLUTELY love Matthias and Nina...so much! And I'm glad Inej is back, but so much just blew up getting her back! Glad to see Kaz outsmarted Van Eck! (hide spoiler)]

Somehow it's easier to worry about them when they're all together and I know they'll help each other, than when one of them is taken. In the last bit of the second part I was worrying they will take Nina, but the author wouldn't use the same idea twice. Another thing about Inej being back is that Kaz isn't that mad. I feel like Kaz is so broken that I can't think of him as of a mentallly healthy person. I really don't know if I wish Inej to be with him or if she deserves better. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I'm really worried about Inej being hurt so badly. I'm glad Nina's project of taking the Girsha out of the city worked well with the rest of their plan (theoretically). Nina and Matthias are soo awful and amazing at the same time! I mean, just take the "I'm teaching him how to have fun" moment!
Also, Van Eck is so awful. After getting to know Wylan's backstory about how his father sent people to kill him and getting to know his mother's been alive for all this time there's no mercy left for Van Eck.
I'm in love with Jesper's childhood stories. His mom sounds like such an amazing person. Why do all the family members of Kaz's team tend to die in their childhood? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I still don't fully get their plan, but I am pretty sure it is genius and crazy. And why are all the couples finally getting together? Both Jesper and Wylan (omg they have finally kissed - I still can't get over it) and Nina and Matthias are amazing, but I like Kazz's and Inej's relationship because of the complication and impossibility of it. Both of them have a trauma that prevents them from touching people and they still somehow manage to want to be a couple (but still not being too successful at that). Every time the team says goodbye before a battle I feel like Kazz and Inej will finally say something to each other, but then nothing happens.
I like that the author is keeping the characters who they are, though.
I'm glad Kazz has finally set his right on being the leader of the Dregs. Per Haskell felt like an empty character to me, but I guess he was useful when the team left to the Ice Court - so that the Dregs won't be left leaderless.

Finished (view spoiler)[ Honestly, I feel like it is the best book I've read in my life. There have been so much moments when you feel that this time everything is lost for sure and then they come up with another awful and genius plan. I have to say that Matthias's death didn't hit me so hard because I've accidentally spoilered myself, and I felt like the part with Kuwei's coming back to life was a little bit weak. But Kazz and Inej (ahhhh she's going to see her parents!!!!!!) and then Rollins... That was amazing. I really don't know if I should be terrified for him or if he deserves it.
The "problem" is that the characters are truly monsters and yet you get to the point you care for the so much you can't breathe properly. Nina is my hero (I mean, food, sleep, flirting with everyone and still caring for a few people in a city like Ketterdam - what else does a perfect character need). (hide spoiler)]

I don’t like this book as much as everyone else does, but Kaz’s fake kidnapping with Pekka’s son was brilliant and this chapter made up for some of the slow moments I’ve been having. I still like it overall, but for me it’s a middle of the road book... not bad, but not in love with it either. We’ll see how it ends!! (hide spoiler)]

I was thinking this was going to be a very solid 3-3.5 star rating while reading the middle section, which isn't a bad rating for me, but this ending was very well done!! I loved seeing how Kaz's plan unfolded, but I thought Matthias' death was a bit unnecessary and kind of rushed, to be honest...I absolutely loved the characters in these books (probably some my all time favorites) but I thought the plots were long and kind of boring, so that's why the rating was kind of toward the middle for me. But the ending brought it back up a bit! Glad I read the series, but I didn't loe them like everyone else loved them. (hide spoiler)]

I see what you mean about the middle, and I totally agree about Matthias's death. It felt a little bit like "wow all of them survived this would be a too happy ending for such a book let's kill someone"
I was totally terrified about Wylan. I loved how the ending of the chapter was so specific and un-specific at the same time. It did feel a little bit too miraculous and easy when they said the people who caught Wylam were from the Dregs.
