SOLVED. YA book told from the point of view of a cat (not warrior cat series). [s]

I remember reading a book from the point of view from a cat around 2007/2008 but i believe the book was older. It may have been called Forest but i have been unlucky in finding the book. I've read the first few book of the warrior cats series so im almost completely certain that those are not the book im looking for although it is similar.
The plot centered around and adult cat and 2 kittens that belonged to an old woman who dies and her son who inherited her home doesn't want them and abandons them on the side of the road. There they meet stray cats living in a forest and try to live among them although the adult cat finds it hard.

****SPOILER****

I think the book ends when the adult cat is shot by a farmer and dies and the kittens going of to live with the wild stray cats.
