Yeah, no horror here. Strange....
Perhaps I would have added The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but the late Douglas Adams ruined my youth with Mostly Harmless.

oh! that's a really hard question. #1 would be blood and gold by anne rice, no doubt about that but some of her others would be in the top as well. I really liked IT as well plus some harry potter, mercy Thompson, I'd have to think about this.

yay! I've read all of yours but usher's passing but that may soon be remedied.
The Count of Monte CristoThe Stand
To Kill a Mockingbird

Nothing else is sticking out enough to call best, at the moment. An incredibly large tie for fifth.

Oh, I hope you get to someday! I waited forever because I didn't think I would like it and OMG! I freaking love it :-). I even bought a necklace and socks of the book. lol
Melissa wrote: "Oh, I hope you get to someday! I waited forever because I didn't think I would like it and OMG! I freaking love it :-). I even bought a necklace and socks of the book. lol"whoa! maybe I should read it too!
I recommend to everyone. And if you don't like it then that's okay too :-). But get the big tome, not an abridged one. You need to not miss a thing!
I second that recommendation. The longer you wait, the more you'll hate yourself for waiting. (I waited 30+ years.)
I have to read it again soon. It's been a while. That one always stays at the top of my favourite book list no matter my mood, or whatever else I've read, it's been there for probably half my life.
Skulduggery PleasantSabriel
Mistborn
Ranger's Apprentice
The Highwayman by R. A. Salvatore
Also Northanger Abbey... among a couple others. It's hard to narrow it down even to five.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar WildeSea-Wolf by Jack London
The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft (though nearly all his stories are great)
Something Wicked Comes This Way by Ray Bradbury
1984 by George Orwell
The Harry Potter is close on the list as well, same with a bunch of other books, like The Ship of Isthar, The Moon Pool, and Fight Club.
This is such an impossible question for me to answer. I'll list five horror novels that impress me to no end:
The Exorcist, William Peter Blatty
The Shining, Stephen King
Ghost Story, Peter Straub
The October Country, Ray Bradbury (short story collection)
It, Stephen King
